SHOT Show 18 – SOTech Affiliate’s Auto X Ops XOP Stock

Thursday, January 25th, 2018

SOTech is supporting Auto X Ops’ development of their patented XOP Stock (pronounced ZOP).

XOP Stock is the invention of Retired Police Officer Joede Vanek (LVMPD) and his close friend Bret Pitman. Together, they formed Auto X Ops.

Designed for use with AR-style weapons, it replaces the standard stock and pistol grip. This new stock system offers the shooter the ability to instantly change the length of pull with a single lever.

The silver lever is spring loaded and stays in the upright position just under the trigger guard. The shooter uses the middle finger to flip the lever down into position and then to the rear. The stock itself is spring loaded and extends to any one of the stock’s 11 positions selected by the shooter.

The XOP Stock allows immediate transition of length of pull to accommodate sight relief, terrain and TTPs. All of this without removing the weapon from the shoulder. At any point, the shooter can change the stock’s position by using the lever.

Imagine having the carbine change rather than contorting yourself to the weapon. That’s what Joede had in mind when came up with the idea.

If you’re concerned about the form factor, their next step is modularity, offering different stock and grip options.

Visit SOTech in booth #20113 to see the XOP Stock.

SOTECH IFAK History

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017

Sometimes at SOTECH, we need to take a break from looking at future tactical systems trends to look back at our history to find some design gems. When we look back at 20 years of design meetings, sample making, teleconferences, field tests, it’s humbling to look back at all the amazing personnel we had the honor of working with as they reshaped military medicine. S.O.TECH of course respects that other companies innovated great IFAK designs during this period, this is just a timeline of ours.

We collected some of our design stories and compiled them here sotechtactical.com/pages/history-of-our-ifaks.

SOTECH Recce Vest

Thursday, February 9th, 2017

During our SHOT Show coverage we told you about SOTECH’s Recce Vest based on the item issued to the British SAS for decades and officially known as the Pack, Lightweight Combat. Now, their modernized version is available for order.

SOTECH presents a high ride vest that rides above gun belts / LBE Harnesses and over plate carriers.
The Recce Vest was designed as a lightweight vest with large pocket capacity to be folded up in your pocket or pack. While this is ideal for recce applications, it is also well suited for SERE, narcotics eradication, motor bike use, and numerous other uses.

This vest has some improvements over the UK models with flap or shock cord retention on the two smaller front pouches – you can engage the flap, or fold it away to use just the shock cord. We also added a cinchable storm hood to the back pack for retention. The vest is made of 500D Cordura for lightweight durability. Removable foam insert providing padding for optics and electronics sold separately.

Features:
• 5 Compartments (4 front pockets, 1 Rear pack)
• Lightweight design, small buckles, ¾ in webbing
• Dimensions:
-Rear Pack- 10″ x 12″ x 4.5″
-Large Front Pockets- 9.5″ x 6″ x 2.5″
-Smaller Front Pockets- 5″ x 4″ x 1.5″
• Material: 500D Cordura Nylon®, Elastic, Small Polymer Buckles, Heavy webbing
• Made in the USA

SHOT Show 17 – SOTech’s “British” Load Carriage Vest

Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

Let’s face it, I’m jaded. I look at cool military gear everyday, so it’s hard to get me excited about much of anything. When I walked into the SOTech booth, it was more to wish Founder Jim Cragg congratulations for his company’s 20th anniversary than to check out more gear, as my fun meter had already pegged by day one of SHOT Show. Then, I looked on a lower shelf, and spied this beauty.

It’s a simple affair, mesh shoulders with no adjustment for length, connected directly to large, top loading GP pockets at the front and a big day pack at the rear. The vest also offers side adjustment and two front closure straps with QR buckles.

Unless you’re a true connoisseur of load carriage, you may not recognize this modern take on a classic British Load Carriage Vest, used by UKSF during the 70s in Oman, the 80s in the Falklands and Brunei and up until Operation Desert Storm in SW Asia. In fact, one was still being worn by a member of Executive Outcomes in the late 90s.

The Pack, Lightweight Combat was manufactured by several firms including Chelsea Quilt Company, commonly known as CQC, Ltd, and Mills Equipment Company (MECO). A common misconception is that this is the 72 trials pattern webbing because of its similar cut and materials, but while both were manufactured from Butyl rubber, they are distinctly different pieces of kit. The Lightweight Combat Pack was often used by UK special operators because the large ammo pouches to the front were adaptable to a wide variety of magazine types from Bren to Armalite magazines. The original model also often incorporated a specific pocket for SLR (FNFAL) magazines sewn to the front of either side’s large pocket to facilitate quick reloads. The lightweight design was intended specifically for use in tropical environments but often saw action in other regions, especially the desert.

SOTech created this no frills vest at the request of a customer for use on Close Target Recce where it can be removed from a pack and loaded with equipment needed for a short duration mission. It’s still a simple design, made from 500D Cordura and Mil-Spec mesh, with modern QR buckles. It won’t be for everybody, but some guys will get it, and use it.
