Vets Corps brings together the SBA and AUSA to host a Veterans Small Business Conference. Vets Corps founder and S.O.Tech President Jim Cragg saw an opportunity to give back to the Veteran community in organizing this event. Most of these events are bland discussions about how to seek funding and register for set asides. So I set out to bring the Association of the US Army to bring a military-speak aspect to the presentation of good information. Brigadier General (ret) Jim Combs will be the keynote speaker and panel speakers will cover everything from mentoring for small business start-ups to how Veteran businesses should engage aerospace and defense industry opportunities. Veterans are twice as likely as their civilian counterparts to start a small business. Vets Corps believes that we need to support our servicemen and women who wish to continue their tradition of leading by becoming business leaders.
The Veterans Small Business Conference will be held November 2 at the Bob Hope Patriotic Hall in Los Angeles, California. All Veterans are welcome to this free event, whether you are thinking about starting a business or looking to expand your existing business.

We received this great note from our friends at SOTech. They continue to do great things with the Veterans community in SoCal.
Normally we are announcing new product designs, but today we are honored that we were able to apply our skills to support the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration Hospital. Secretary Robert McDonald came out to ceremonially reopen the gates of the campus signalling a new day for the campus. A lot of momentous changes have been instituted by the VA and they are returning it to being a “Home for Veterans” rather than just a hospital. The VA asked Vets Corps to make copies of the original 1888 bronze plaques that read “National Soldiers Home”. Vets Corps volunteered SOTech employee Clark Acton who spent years in the film industry making rubber dummy guns to create the casts. At SOTech, Clark pours molds to make resin forms of radios, trauma plates, optics and weapons for pouches from originals that customers supply. This time Clark, a veteran himself, got to make a symbol that will welcome Veterans in Los Angeles to their Soldiers Home for decades to come.

Earlier this week we posted a story that challenged industry to offer new police equipment. S.O.Tech has been working on some things so we thought we’d share.
S.O.Tech’s Taser holster Speed Clip System is part of a shift in the law enforcement paradigm. We are witnessing the proliferation of less lethal Taser systems in law enforcement and a shift in public perceptions. When LAPD originally queried SOTech to design an upgraded version of its venerable Taser holster design, the discussion was for a few hundred holsters. After a year, this expanded to an order of 2,330 holsters as part of a contract extendable to 5 years and covering sales to LA Sheriffs Department too. We believe that we are witnessing a paradigm shift from a public expectation that police officers would have a badge and a gun. The new paradigm will be a badge, a gun and a Taser device. S.O.Tech recently delivered 800 Taser holsters to LASD. Be on the lookout for new Taser carriage designs from S.O.Tech in coming months!
Also a sign of the times, S.O.Tech designed the pouches in the Speed Clip line to have a military-inspired functionality but a law enforcement professional appearance. Flaps have minimal external stitch work and foam lining for a clean appearance in addition to a highly modular mounting system that quickly attaches to the belt, thigh or MOLLE vest is a matter of seconds. The unique design incorporates S.O.Tech’s patented ambidextrous flapped design that promotes weapon retention and prevents mistaken weapon identity.
The video announces the three stages of S.O.Tech’s modular law enforcement system: the fixed gun belt, Speed Clip line, and Suit Up line of civil disobedience and assault vest gear. S.O.Tech has been developing this systematic approach since the company’s beginnings in 1997 when LAPD and LASD officers and deputies presented the need for modular response systems.
