Sneak Peek – Something New from Velocity Systems?

Wednesday, August 19th, 2015

A cool, beach influenced prototype from Velocity Systems was spotted at this week’s Connecticut SWAT Challenge. You’re definitely not going to be the guy, trying not to look like the guy, in this shirt.  Totally conceptual so far, the Point Break Pullover, is what happens when a tactical company lets a “surf first” employee run with an idea. But, if there’s enough interest, it might just make it from sample room to show room.

Made from a 5 oz 98/2 nylon spandex blend. DWR. Uber stretchy, water, rain, debris repellent. Single large chest pocket, Canadian buttons and great style.

What do you think?

Velocity Systems K9 Mesh Handler Harness

Friday, July 24th, 2015

Recently, SSD reader JP sent us these photos of his pup sporting the Velocity Systems K9 mesh handler vest.

The body of the harness is mesh to keep the animal as cool as possible. It also incorporates handler grab handles on the top front and rear for holding and lifting as well as a Velcro Loop area on top for Camera or Marker Light mounting, and additional Velcro Loop areas on the sides for ID Placards.

Velocity Systems – Range Shorts

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2015

I don’t know how the weather is where you are, but here in the Commonwealth of Virginia it is hot, as in over 100 degrees hot. Over the weekend I was pulling some shorts out of the storage bin and it dawned on me that I should remind you about Velocity Systems’ Range Shorts. It’s not often that I wear shorts to the range, but when I do, it’s a pair of these. But generally, I like them for daily wear.  They are a great utility short that I am happy to recommend.

Just as the name implies, these are Range Shorts. The features were all specified by the military customer for use as a training short or wear around the FOB while deployed. Made from the same ripstop 50/50 NYCO found in the ACU, the Range Shorts incorporate slanted openings on the front patch pockets to allow you to comfortably wear a knife or light with clip. The Side Pockets are sized to hold 5.56 or Pistol Magazines. Additionally, they incorporate Dual External Dump Pockets with Velcro tab closures. The deep rear pockets have slanted openings for easy access to the contents. The aren’t many Belt Loops and they are laid out well, allowing for use of a gun belt and to accommodate holster placememt.  Finally, they feature a slotted button closure as well as a Waist Belt Adjustment for use without a belt, in case you want to wear a war belt to the range.

One of the things that has come up with these shorts is the length. I grew up in the 70s & 80s so I prefer my shorts ti be just that, short. My kids on the other hand won’t wear anything that comes above their knee. As you can see, the Velocity Range Shorts fall just above the knee and the legs are wide enough to give you plenty of mobility without looking billowy but they aren’t so short as to make you look like Magnum PI.  The slit at the hem also works to give you some extra room to move around.

Available in Tan or MultiCam, sizes 30-38. They run true to size.

Velocity Systems Releases New Colors For BOSS Rugby

Friday, April 24th, 2015

BOSS Rugby wearers have called for additional colors and Velocity Systems responded by introducing the Coyote version we saw in March as well as the new Ranger Green and Red. If I were ever accused of endorsing a product, the BOSS Rugby would be it. I love these things and it’s great to see more color options.

You’ll notice that the Red variant, which is great for range personnel, is long sleeved and features Grey sleeve pockets. In fact, all three new colors will be offered in Short and Long Sleeve versions. These should be available very soon. In addition to Velocity Systems, SKD Tactical has also placed a stocking order.

Velocity Systems Clarifies Threat Protection Level of VS-P34 Plates

Saturday, April 4th, 2015

Velocity Systems issued this statement in order to clear up any confusion regarding the threat protection level of their VS-P34 plates.

We have heard of a few instances of people incorrectly stating the threat level of our VS-P34 Plate.

Our P34 Plate is an In Conjunction With (ICW) Plate rated for both NIJ Level III and NIJ Level IV.

The P34 MUST be worn In Conjunction With VS-13A Soft Armor to achieve the stated threat level. (The reason for rating the plate to both III & IV is that the NIJ Level IV Threat Rating is not all inclusive of the NIJ Level III Threat Rating)

WARNING: The P34 is NOT a Stand-Alone Plate for ANY threat level. To assume this plate is a “Level III Stand-Alone and Level IV In-Conjunction WIth” is INCORRECT.
