Saturday, March 14th, 2009Darn Tough Vermont has developed a new Mountaineering Weight Sock. While it won’t be available to the public until July, they are shipping their first military order next week to a Navy customer. Designed to complement heavy mountaineering boots like the La Sportiva Makalu or the Scarpa Inverno, it is an over the calf, full cushion sock made up of 77% fine gauge Merino wool and they tout it as their warmest, thickest, and most durable sock yet.

Mk14 Mod0 Multi-shot Grenade Launcher

Milkor USA displayed the latest incarnation of their rotary 40mm Grenade Launcher at NAVEXFOR. USSOCOM recently fielded 230 of the new Mk14 Mod0 (NSN 1010-01-568-3179). As you can see from the photo, the Mk14 is slightly shorter than the M32 fielded to the US Marine Corps. The Marines currently are looking at an additional purchase to augment he M32s already in service and both the M32 and Mk14 have been offered as candidates.
Additionally, the M2A1 Reflex Sight is seeing some success on its own. One customer has already purchased the sight for dual-use on their M203 equipped carbines and Milkor USA is working to enhance the performance of the sight with rifles as well preparing to introduce a new mount for Mil Std 1913 rail equipped weapons.

R1 Full Zip Fleece from Patagonia

Patagonia has introduced a new version of their R1 fleece. The full zip hoodie and popular R1 pull over (often used as Level 2 garment)are now joined by a full zip cardigan style jacket. While the hoodie is only available in Red and Black, both the classic pullover and new full zip fleece come in Llama Brown, Black, and Espresso.
Please note that these are not the full cut styles found in MARS but rather a slim cut version so most will want to go up at least one size.

Source One Distributors Moves to New HQ
Friday, March 13th, 2009Source One Distributors, Inc. recently moved its corporate headquarters to 3280 Fairlane Farms Rd. in Wellington, FL. The new 13,500 square foot facility boasts an expanded shipping and receiving area located in an air conditioned warehouse, conference rooms, and private office suites. Source One made the move to prepare for their recent prime vendor designation on a Tailored Logistics Support (TLS) contract slated to go into effect March 9th.
This new contract is an addition to Source One’s previous procurement options including, GSA schedule holder, DOD EMALL, NY HIRE contract, 8(a), VOSB, NMSDC, MBE and SDB.

S.O.Tech Mission Pack System
Thursday, March 12th, 2009S.O.Tech, makers of the SOCOM-issue Mission Go Bag has released a new pack system. Essentially a tool kit of load carrying solutions, it provides a variety bags and accessories to the warrior. The best way to give you an idea of the scope of this new system is to just show you.
Designed with and employed by Special Forces elements, the system was tailored for vehicle-mounted deployment as well as long range foot patrol operations. The Mission Pack system was designed around current TTPs. Mission Packs are designed for use from vehicles. Bail out modular Mission Go Bags can be pulled and deployed for short-range missions leaving primary packs on vehicles. Mission tailored panels (medical, sniper, canine, camera, or EOD) can be removed from the packs for layout or hanging on vehicle walls during employment. Lightweight SplashGuards and a heavyweight, divable waterproof bag protects contents from water. Trauma Kits slide into pockets and provide medical supplies on the scene until emergency help arrives. Accessory items such as padded belts, shoulder straps, organizers, wheeled racks and hard cases are also available.

Aegis Mini 240GB 1.8-inch Hard Drive

Apricorn has just released the new Aegis Mini 240GB 1.8-inch portable hard drive. Available in USB 2.0 or FireWire (priced $269 and $279, respectively).
We do not recommend this drive for operational use due to recent infosec issues in theater. However, it is a great way to deploy with MP3s, movies, pictures, and other personal files. Apricorn also offers 80GB or 120GB drives as well as Data Protection Suite software. All of the drives feature shock protection and retractable cable.
