Injection Molded Single Magazine Pouch

Monday, May 10th, 2010

One of the coolest things I saw at last week’s ADS Warrior Expo West was Safariland’s Model 71 Injection Molded Single Magazine Pouch. Sized to fit up to a 1.75″ belt the flexible “accordion” design accepts almost any single or double stack magazine as well as flashlights, knives, and multi-tools. Despite its open top, the material and design work together for positive retention. Right now they are only available in Black but I saw prototypes of a Tan version and there is talk of offering the pouch in a MOLLE compatible version as well. Simple, yet versatile. I can’t wait to get my hands on some.

Over the next week or so, I’ll be discussing several products that I saw at the ADS Warrior Expo so come back often.

Counterfeit CAT Tourniquets

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Many military and Law Enforcement organizations are issuing the Combat Application Tourniquet. Unfortunately, a replica product built in Hong Kong by Element Airsoft and made to resemble the CAT has been showing up in medical equipment sets. Organizations and individuals may see a lower price and think they are getting a good deal but according the briefing below, the E-CAT does not perform to the same standard as the CAT Gen III.

Combat Application Tourniquet (GEN III vs E-CAT)

We have seen this time and time again and the issue is not limited to just medical equipment. Most companies catering to the mil sim or airsoft markets manufacture to a lower standard than US Mil Spec and use lower quality materials, not to mention that they are not Berry Compliant. When a purchaser chooses to save a few bucks, he also cuts corners that can cost lives. It is imperative that the purchaser realistically assesses his needs and purchases the right product for the right application. Remember, buy quality, cry once.

BHI Mini Handheld SATCOM Antenna

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

If you are a radio operator you will take one look at this baby and say to yourself, “ah-ha, I can see what they did there.” Blackheart International’s new SATCOM antenna offers three four deployment options in one antenna. It comes with a sturdy, compact tripod base making it the steadiest mini SATCOM tripod available, a magnetic-mount base which is ideal for mounting atop stationary vehicles or on surfaces too small to permit the use of a tripod, and an AR-15 pistol grip for quick satellite acquisition. Additionally, a ground spike is stowed inside the magnetic mount base, giving it one more method of deployment. Finally, the antenna comes with a specially designed holster so the antenna can be worn by the operator and swiftly deployed.

Weighing only 1.1 pounds, the dual quad radials collapse and fold alongside the collapsible boom to fit into a water-resistant MOLLE compatible carrying pouch. The antenna is treated to a dull black anodized finish to reduce glare and protect the metal against weatherization. The antenna is also available in Tan by special order.

Blackheart International will be exhibiting the new antenna along with numerous other products at SpecOps Warfighter Expo West held this week at Fort Lewis, Washington.

AK Battle Grip

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

US PALM will be releasing the new AK Battle grip in just a few short weeks. Here are some new details to help tide you over while you wait.

AK Battle Grip from US PALM

Initially, they will be available in Black, FDE, and a special request for a Brown/Bakelite-ish color. The photo depicts the US PALM logo and a few OEM makers have already requested their logo which is only available on the left side of the grip. A modified version of the highly successful TangoDown Battle Grip, the angle on the new AK variant really drives your hand up into the grip/receiver junction, unlike the original Soviet design that almost does the opposite. Additionally, the “fill” of the gap between the grip and the trigger-guard makes for a happy ring-finger.

Army Selects Medium Rucksack

Friday, May 7th, 2010

Our friends over at Military.com’s Kit Up! have followed up on their story about the Army’s medium rucksack program which resembles an over sized MOLLE assault pack. The Army produced three competing designs that differed in the frame style and the “external” frame won. Here, unveiled for the first time is this revolutionary new frame designed by Down East.

New Medium Ruck Frame

The first thing that should strike you is that the frame is open at the top. The sewn portions of the pack are designed to provide stability between the tops of the frame arms, while allowing the frame to form around body armor, water reservoirs, etc. This approach allows plenty of ventilation while efficiently transferring load to the hips. The frame system retains the trampoline style belt foundation of the larger MOLLE system while providing adjustment options in both the shoulder pads and belt. The frame weights less than a pound and is made of ITW’s high performance, frag-resistant polymer; the same used in the current MOLLE2 Large system.

As you can see the new frame is in TAN499 to match MultiCam. The new medium rucksack will be manufactured by BAE and possibly Eagle under the MOLLE program. The ruck is currently only slated for issue to Afghanistan bound troops who should begin to receive them this summer.

S&S Precision WeaponLink

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

The WeaponLink from S&S Precision features two pieces. The stud is mounted to your carbine’s Mil Std 1913 rail and the receiver is mounted to your belt or vest. The simple design allows for one handed lock and unlock by inserting the stud into the receiver and pushing down until locks into place. The design allows the weapon to swivel along with your movement.
