Arc’teryx Covert Zip Exclusive from US Elite Gear

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

US Elite Gear is offering an exclusive version of the popular Arc’teryx Covert Zip in Crocodile. Made from Polartec Thermal Pro Sweater Knit, It features a zip collar and laminated pocket on the left sleeve. US Elite Gear added their embroidered logo to the right sleeve. Other than that, it is a standard Covert Zip. US Elite Gear likes it so much they have dubbed it the BAJ for Bad Ass Jacket.

I have to agree with their name. I have been wearing a Blue one for several winters now and is one of my favorite sweaters. It is very comfortable and the perfect layer over a performance t-shirt for brisk days. I picked it up at a Hudson Trail Outfitter sale when I lived in the DC area and like I said, I have been wearing it for five years and it shows little wear. Granted, I haven’t worn it 24/7 but if you take care of it, it will take care of you. Expect some minor pilling but this has never detracted from the performance or look of the Covert Zip.

It is in stock in sizes Small – XX Large. To purchase yours visit www.us-elitegear.com.

Will It Happen?

Friday, March 18th, 2011

The Army is supposed to release the Solicitation today for the Camouflage Improvement Effort. Lots of folks have been leaning forward in their foxholes getting ready for it and we can’t wait to see what comes out of this. Hopefully, you will be seeing a post from us later today announcing the beginning of DoD’s most ambitious camo effort yet.

Futuristic Infantry Soldier As a System

Friday, March 18th, 2011

Futuristic Infantry Soldier As a System (F-INSAS) is the Indian Army’s Soldier modernization program planned to from 2012 to 2020. In the first phase, to be completed by 2012, they plan to begin fielding of a multi-caliber (5.56mm, 7.62mm, and purportedly 6.8mm) modular weapon system along with a detachable grenade launcher with airbursting grenades. By programs end in 2020, the Indian Army plans to complete fielding to all of its 465 infantry and paramilitary battalions of the complete system which includes helmet with visor, uniform with integrated armor and NBC protection as ell as a palmtop computer. F-INFAS follows the pattern of western Soldier modernization efforts with heavy emphasis on C4I2 (Command, Control, Communications Computers, Information and Intelligence). The goal is to turn the Soldier into “a self-contained fighting machine”. In addition to fielding all of this capability they also want to reduce the Soldier’s load by 50%.

While initially subsystem development has been outsourced to a variety of international concerns, Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is serving as the prime and system integrator. Within India, both Tata Advanced Systems and Rolta Thales Ltd have a hand in F-INSAS’s development.

Black Palm Syndicate has released their first cap design. These are Black fitted Flex Fit caps in size s/m or l/xl. As you can see, the Black Palm Syndicate logo is embroidered on the cap. Overall simple, but built using the Flex Fit design which I really like.

SSD After Dark – Major Fox Keeps Your Riser Up

Thursday, March 17th, 2011

Well it’s dark somewhere. Ever had trouble keep it up? Your stock’s cheek riser, that is. Recently, we published an article about Victor Company’s Accu-Stack Comb Risers. While we think we did a pretty good job of explaining what they do, Victor Company produced this commercial to show the benefits of their Accu-Stack Comb Risers and it will probably be the best thing you see, all day (or night). Despite our tagline it is safe for work.
