The Iditarod Project

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Two Army veterans decided to come up with a unique way to support the Wounded Warrior Project. They’re going to make the famous Iditarod trek, a perilous 1,100 mile journey via dog sled from the Knik/Big Lake area of Alaska to Nome. But, Mike Pilotte and John Miller are used to danger. Both are veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and currently serve as proud members of A Troop 1-82 Cavalry, 41st IBCT, Oregon Army National Guard. Their adventure begins in March 2012, when you’ll be able to track their progress via GPS. Until then, donate to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Hastati II Tactical Armor Carrier

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Hardpoint Equipment has introduced the Hastati II Tactical Armor Carrier. They really pulled out all of the stops on this one which they developed for a USSOCOM requirement. Designed to fit MBAV cut armor panels and standard plates, every piece (shoulder-straps, side straps, cummerbund, etc.) of the Hastati is removable and replaceable, including the MOLLE panels. Take a look at the photos. You can see how Hardpoint contains the plate, cradling it, yet also accommodating the flexibility of accepting MOLLE or a smooth front. Additionally, the lengths and angles of the individual pieces can also be adjusted to exact individual preference. They’ve put a lot of thought into this one. It offers flexibility and configurability in a lightweight package. And yes, there’s something special going on with those magazine pouches.

Whiskey 5 – MASTER PROVEN

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

WHO
Master Proven is a group of evaluation teams, each comprised of 2-4 evaluators, with a team lead who has earned the Master rank in his or her respective career field, branch of service or tactical assignment. Collectively, the Master Team Leads have over 150 years of real world tactical experience. Evaluation team members are drawn from across a broad spectrum of military, law enforcement and other tactical professionals. They are all current or former: Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen, Police Officers, Medics and Sheriff’s Deputies. In many cases they are both, and include a wide array of disciplines (Special Operations/SWAT, EOD, Scouts and Snipers, Patrol, Search & Rescue, Detectives, etc.).

WHAT
Master Proven is an independent, 3rd party testing and evaluation organization. Pieces of individual equipment and tactical kit undergo rigorous and thorough testing in an effort to see how well the gear in question holds up to use and abuse. Anyone wishing to see a hard copy of an individual item’s evaluation results should contact MASTER PROVEN. All products that pass will be given a PASS ID number and permission granted to use the MASTER PROVEN logo.
WHEN: As needed, in an ongoing process. Equipment manufacturers submit a three (3) or more of each item to be tested. There will be a register and a number for each item evaluated and the names of the evaluators involved. Those items that successfully pass the review process will be posted on line. Items that do not pass evaluation will have that AAR returned to the manufacturer with a thorough review and suggestions as to how that particular item could be improved or brought up to par.

WHERE
CONUS and OCONUS location. Evaluators test and evaluate equipment wherever they currently work or serve. That may be on a range at Camp Lejeune, outside a workshop in Alaska or on the streets of a Midwestern police department. In most cases, evaluation will occur in 2 or more different locales.

WHY
The end goal is simple; to determine what works, how it holds up to punishment and whether the price is objectively reasonable in the context of purpose, construction and performance. This is simply to provide end users with confidence that the items in question are worth spending their money on.

Spirit of Blue Foundation Update

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago we told you about the Spirit of Blue campaign and Blue Force Gear’s participation.

Now they’ve been joined by Leupold Tactical, A-TACS camo, L3-EOtech, and Combat Medical Systems as Safety Grant Sponsors.

Five non-profit organizations actively supporting the law enforcement community have already teamed up with the Spirit of Blue Foundation for the 2011 holiday campaign that launched in October. Those organizations – The National Troopers Coalition, Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, National Sheriff’s Association, Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and the Jeffrey S. Parola Foundation – represent roughly 125,000 officers, deputies and agents nationwide.

As partners they are promoting the sale of the Spirit of Blue’s blue ribbon holiday wreath honoring and benefiting the law enforcement community. Consumers who purchase the product during the Campaign will be allowed to select which non-profit they would like to see benefited from the sale and the Foundation will donate a portion of the proceeds accordingly. At the same time, consumers will be asked to nominate a law enforcement agency that they would like to be considered to receive a Safety Grant award. At the end of the Campaign, the Spirit of Blue Safety Grant Program randomly selects nominated law enforcement agencies to receive a safety grant award. The safety grants will be redeemable exclusively through the consortium of Safety Grant Partners made up of law enforcement equipment brands.
