The Man Tie

Saturday, November 24th, 2012

GoRuck has long been known for overpriced military-style day packs. Now, they can also be known for overpriced MultiCam ties.

Available in Narrow (2.5″) and Classic (3.5″) widths, the Man Tie will look great at your next business meeting or just a trip out drinking with your boys.

Look for 60″ and 65″ lengths in MultiCam as well as the ever stylish Black and Sand. Interestingly, they are manufactured from Cordura; 500D if the tie is Black or 1000D if it’s Sand or MultiCam.

Forget the Bug Out Bag – Now They’re Talking INCH

Friday, November 23rd, 2012

INCH as in I’m Never Coming Home. So if a Bug Out Bag is meant for 72 hours on your own, what is the INCH bag intended for? What should be in it?

Somebody has already launched a website dedicated to the concept – inchbag.com. But, it’s typical Doomsday Prepper caliber with lots of surplus store stuff.

If you had to actually live out of a pack, what would you carry? I’d start it out with these 10 essentials.

1. Knife
2. Fire making materials
3. Water purification and bottle
4. Food / food acquisition (snares, firearm, etc)
5. Navigation (map/compass/GPS)
6. First Aid items
7. Shelter
8. Environmental protection (clothing, sunglasses, etc)
9. Cord
10. Signal Devices

and that 11th, a positive attitude.

But, what do you guys think?

X-CALIBER Survival-Rifle Gauge Adapter System

Friday, November 23rd, 2012

Tim Ralston, Founder of Gear Up and inventor / manufacturer of the CROVEL brand line of survival shovels, has announced the release of the X-CALIBER Survival-Rifle Gauge Adapter System.

I already know what you’re going to say, and yes, Mr Ralston shot his thumb on “Doomsday Preppers” but this is an interesting product. Similar products have been offered in the past but the X-CALIBER allows you to shoot 11 different caliber rounds from a single-shot 12 gauge shotgun using rifled adapters which are made from 7 inches of 4140 chromoly stainless steel.

Calibers include: .22 long rifle, .38 special, .357, 9mm, .45 ACP, .45 long colt, .410 shotgun as well as the base 12 ga shotgun. Additionally, X-CALIBER introduces .223, 7.62×39 and .308 to the mix. This means it could well be of interest to anyone who has an interest in scavenging ammunition. Granted, there are some serious considerations to make for dismounted use due to weight. But, additional inserts could be cached for later use.

You provide the base weapon which is a simple, reliable, break action design. It won’t raise undue interest as it is a commonly found gun, particularly in rural areas. Additionally, the X-CALIBER system will adapt to virtually any break action 12 ga.

The concept is certainly worth a discussion and some readers may consider picking one up.

AEX Tier One – The Movie

Friday, November 23rd, 2012

In August I visited the guys at Airsoft Extreme and they showed me a rough cut of this short they had created from video shot during the filming of a commercial. It is a Hollywood production and aside from the airsoft guns and associated special effects the gear is authentic. Watch it in this light and enjoy.

LVOA AR Officially Launching Today

Friday, November 23rd, 2012

The site for the Low Vis Operations & Applications AR has already launched. Look for additional content as they populate it, including attributes, bios, FAQ’s, product highlights, photos etc.

The LVOA AR (both 12″ NFA SBR and 14.5″ with pinned flash hider Carbine variants) will launch for sale today at 1400EST. For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, the LVOA was designed specifically to mitigate the muzzle flash as much as possible in order to lessen the effects on night vision devices and to help mask the shooter’s position. You aren’t using a suppressor with this one.

Panacis Receives Patent for Improved Lithium Battery Performance at High Temperatures

Friday, November 23rd, 2012

The U.S. Patent Office has granted canadian firm Panacis Inc a patent for their technology that improves rechargeable battery operation and cycle life at high ambient temperatures. The proprietary technology involves a complex algorithm in the Battery Management System (BMS) that dynamically adjusts certain parameters in response to cell temperature. To date, Panacis’ preliminary testing has shown a lifetime increase from 4 months to more than 19 months for a battery exposed to temperatures of +55C.

“The ability both to operate efficiently at high temperatures and to extend the battery’s life at these temperatures is critical for our military markets,” said Steve Carkner, inventor, founder, and CTO of Panacis. “It is particularly applicable for our soldier system and ground vehicle applications.”

Panacis utilizes its own in-house, proprietary BMS in its products. This allows custom tailoring of the battery and also allows innovations to be deployed easily, sometimes by simply updating the battery’s software.

“Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) battery management systems are fine for toys and consumer gadgets, but they lack the flexibility to tackle the serious energy storage needs of our military and industrial clients,” added Mr. Carkner.

This patented technology is also relevant to other applications such as electric vehicles. Extending the life of lithium batteries under extreme temperatures could reduce or even eliminate the need for cooling on electric vehicles. This would in turn reduce battery pack cost, size, and weight resulting in vehicles that can go farther on a single charge.
