Legion Firearms Update

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

I received this update from Legion Firearms last night and wanted to share it. I’m waiting on a rifle myself, I ordered right after SHOT Show. These issues aren’t limited to Legion Firearms. Everybody is feeling the limited availability of certain parts. The photos are of the LF4 MOD 1 and MOD 2 to give you an idea of some of the things they are doing to support demand.

In 1914 Ernest Shackleton was recruiting for what would eventually be called the Imperial Trans- Antarctic Expedition. His pitch included the following statement: “Officers wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.”

Legion Firearms believes candor is a Good Thing, even if the facts aren’t particularly palatable. We want to put the best weapon possible in your hands, but we’ve been having trouble doing so. We’ve made mistakes, been hobbled by others’ mistakes and hampered by our suppliers’ constraints, but we’ve striven to rectify the former and are working to mitigate the latter.

Legion builds guns every day but Sunday. We shipped 15 rifles last week, 15 the week before and will ship at least that many this week. Our ability to produce a finished weapon is entirely dependent upon certain components—current demand and our exacting standards decrease.

To that end we’ve sourced new manufacturers and built new facilities. Hundreds of uppers, lowers and other parts will now be built in-house. Eventually we’ll own almost all production ourselves, but will remain limited by the limits of man hours worked and our quality control.

Availability for current backlogged orders: the LF-10D is not in stock; buyers are looking at a solid 8 weeks before they are. Unfortunately one of the major players bought up all 7.62 BCGs and they’re just now starting to trickle in. We encountered a similar problem with the LF-4. When FN shipped the CHF barrels to our supplier they sent carbine length rather than mid-length barrels. We’re acquiring CHF barrels from quality sources, but supply is limited. We’ve created the LF4 MOD1 and MOD2 by customer request to speed delivery times, but the LF-15C and LF-15D will still come sooner (though that may still be 12-14 weeks). Our barrel supplier’s factory was shuttered by a Land Reclamation act earlier this year, and though we’re receiving lots of barrels we’re keenly aware that we are way behind where we hoped we’d be.

“In a month or so we’ll literally have hundreds of parts coming off our own line,” says Adam Morehead, CEO of Legion Firearms. “We’ll be providing 15Ds and 15Cs in greater quantity than ever have before. The 15 Deltas particularly will be shipping in great numbers. There’ss just no way to build faster and maintain our level of consistent quality. Lead time for new orders is a solid 20 weeks.”

LF series rifles will remain available on a first come, first served basis. As hard as we’re working to catch up with demand, we would still urge those interested to order now and mitigate the delay. We appreciate your understanding.

Respectful regards,
The Staff of Legion Firearms

This is great news for a fantastic documentary as well as for its producer, Panteao.

Battle of the Black Sea won a 2013 Bronze Award for the Internet/Online Video – Documentary category as well as a 2013 People’s Telly Bronze Award for the Internet/Online Video category. Telly Awards honor the very best local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions, and work created for the Web.

“We are very proud to have won these awards”, said Fernando Coelho, President/CEO of Panteao Productions. He added, “If it wasn’t for the hard work from the Panteao crew and Paul Howe’s dedication to telling the true story of the battle, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

If you haven’t already seen Battle of the Black Sea, the video is an exclusive three hour interview about the untold story of that battle as told by Delta Force member MSG Paul R. Howe, retired. Paul talks about the living conditions soldiers endured in Mogadishu, the UN Joint Forces stationed there, the media, decisions that were made by our military, the search for Aidid, planning for the mission, the mission assets, Operation Gothic Serpent including the downed Black Hawks, the convoy, staying overnight, and the extraction the next day. Paul sets the story straight and gives an unvarnished account of what took place in Somalia in 1993.

Agilite Mohawk Helmet Cover Pics from High Risk Training

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

The recently released Agilite Mohawk Ops-Core FAST helmet cover is gaining in popularity. In fact, Agilite just gave us an exclusive that they have already teamed up with US Military helmet giant Armorsource LLC to design the MICH version of the Mohawk which will be available soon from Armorsource. We are big fans of what we are seeing with Armorsource.

These new pictures from High Risk Training in Ohio provide the first good look at the Ops-Core version of the Mohawk.

Despite only having been launched a month or so ago, the reaction to the Mohawk has been outstanding and according to Agilite orders are flooding in for them. Users really like the functionality and design of the Mohawk, particularly when paired with bump helmets where its strategically-placed mesh sections allow for the free flow of air as well as its built in accessory retention system.

“We like the Mohawk Helmet Cover because of its versatility and ease of conversion,” said HRT President Jeem Newland. “We operate in different environments so being able to adapt to that is key. We are able to go from a black helmet to a Multicam cover in less than a minute allowing us to use 1 standard helmet and accessories”

In fact, Agilite Mohawks are now SOE for all instructors and staff at HRT, all of whom have been handpicked for their background and experience in military, law enforcement, and technology fields to provide our students with the best possible learning environment.

The PMAG 40 AR/M4 GEN M3 is a 40 round version of the GEN M3 PMAG that accommodates the additional 10 rounds in an extra length of 2 1/8″. It also offers full compatibility with the USMC M27 IAR. The new M3 PMAG technology also incorporates a redesigned bolt catch notch in the rear of the magazine, providing increased bolt catch clearance, while an over-travel stop on the spine helps ensure the magazine will not over-insert on compatible weapons.
