ASO Bag 1

RE Factor Tactical’s ASO (Advanced Special Operations) Bag is specifically designed for individuals who need to travel with a tactical bag without the tactical bag look. The dimensions allow for maximum space while still fitting into carry on allowances for most major US carriers. The ASO Bag features an external pocket with RFID blocking material that is sized to fit passports, credit cards, and phones. The opposite end of the bag is outfitted with an easy access “flight pocket”, lined with MOLLE Velcro for adhesion of magazines and patches as well as a medical kit. The medical kit opens with one hand and has tie stays to keep the pocket secure when in use.

The bottom of the bag is lined with a durable waterproof material that keeps the inside materials dry, especially useful for wet range days. The main opening is made extra large to fit plate carriers and other larger equipment. Seven internal large mesh pockets allow for easy separation of equipment and a MOLLE Velcro lined inside wall allows for placement of magazine and nylon pouches. The ASO Bag comes with heavy duty, removable backpack and side carry straps.

The bag is made of 1000D Cordura nylon and is hand sewn in the USA.

Features:

– Sized for carry on travel
– RFID blocking cellphone/passport pocket

– MOLLE Velcro lined inner wall
– MOLLEV Velcro lined fight pocket

US Army Camouflage Improvement Effort – Will They Just Adopt OCP?

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

A few weeks ago I wrote a story about Sergeant Major the Army Chandler’s comments at a town hall meeting in Afghanistan regarding a new MultiCam camouflage (also known as The Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern) variant coming. Prior to this I mentioned that the US Army had announced plans to negotiate a license agreement with Crye Precision for OCP. Last week, Chief of Staff of the Army GEN Ray Odierno held a virtual town hall meeting. His comments were captured in a US Army press release and are most revealing.

Addressing the Army uniform currently being worn in Afghanistan, the OCP, or “Operation Enduring Freedom Camouflage Pattern,” Odierno said the Army is studying the viability of that uniform.

“They appear to be the most effective uniforms that protect our Soldiers, and are most effective in a variety of scenarios that we’ve looked at,” he said, noting that he expects a decision soon on whether the Army will stick with that uniform.

All along, the Army has been comductng a multiyear, multi-million dollar effort to find a new family of camouflage patterns. Announcement of the results of this undertaking have been delayed several times. According to sources, the latest date for the announcement is during the AUSA annual meeting later this month. However, the Army has yet to notify the four finalists (ADS Inc, Brookwood, Crye Precision, and Kryptek) on the results of the solicitation and subsequent evaluations. This step is critical to the procurement process as it gives the participants the ability to launch protests if there are irregularities in the decision. A late October announcement becomes more and more difficult the closer we get to AUSA.

So the question is, will the Army discard the Camouflage Improvement Effort and just adopt MultiCam under a new name such as Army Camouflage Pattern? The evidence certainly seems to indicate that this is the case.

Rear Aperture Pistol Sight for GLOCK Pistols

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

I am posting this with the best of intentions but as I haven’t seen a ghost ring for a pistol in ages, I am hoping to foster some discussion about the merits of the concept. However, I am fully aware that this could go off the rails unless we choose to be constructive and discuss the pros and cons.

Last night I ran across the Rear Aperture Pistol Sight or RAPS for GLOCK pistols being offered by White Raven Communications. Admittedly, I haven’t used it. On one hand, I’m intrigued with the concept considering the current rage of putting MIni Red dot Sights on pistols. Let’s face it, pistol recoil beats the heck out of the MRDS so maybe there’s something to the RAPS. On the other hand, I’m not sure that I’m going to be able to focus on my front sight. Is the RAPS a true ghost ring and if so, will the ring “ghost”?

According to White Raven Communications, RAPS was specifically designed for the following:

Beginner pistol shooters – Provides improved sight picture and sight alignment
Advanced pistol shooters – Fast and intuitive sight alignment, sight picture, and target awareness
Home Defense – Ease of use when under duress
Low Light Situations – Large rear aperture enables quick pickup of front sight
Easy Installation – Nearly anyone with just a few tools can remove factory sights and install the RAPS.

But, they do note that the RAPS isn’t a one-size-fits-all affair.

This sight should not be used for competitive shooting where finite accuracy is required. This sight is for close range, self defense, and home defense at ranges out to 10 to 15 meters. Due to the design and the large rear aperture, extreme accuracy is hard to achieve at ranges of 25 meters and beyond.

So what do you think? Has anyone used RAPS or another ghost ring sight on a pistol?
