A Date Which Will Live In Infamy

Saturday, December 7th, 2013

Today we commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the Japanese attack on the US fleet at Pearl Harbor. It’s been a long time since that day. So long that last year was the final year for formal ceremonies. Some make the argument that by bringing it up every year, it perpetuates long held grudges. And to them I say, “Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.” Just consider my generation’s Pearl Harbor; the 9/11 attacks. Once again, America was the victim of a surprise attack that shocked the world. But, just like after Pearl Harbor, when America was attacked on 9/11 her citizens banded together and dealt with her aggressors. We must always be vigilant.

So here is my salute to America’s Greatest Generation and more so to those who served in the military during the inter-war years. That was true dedication. Thank you for showing us the way. May we always follow your example. And, a moment of silence for the 2402 Americans who were lost on that day and the hundreds more who were wounded in service to this great Nation.

President Roosevelt called today, “A date which will live in infamy.” May we never forget it.

Gunfighter Moment – Pat McNamara

Saturday, December 7th, 2013

It is still hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that I am a civilian. I’ve been retired for a while now but after 22 years of service, it is still difficult to get a grip on. As a civilian, it is still my duty, responsibility and right to protect and serve. To protect my family and friends and to serve my community. As an American it is my right to carry a side arm where ever the law permits. As a trained gun handler, it is my responsibility….as it is yours.

If you are a responsible and trained gun handler, and if you have not obtained the certifications necessary to allow legal carry of a side arm, shame on you. It is my responsibility to cover your back and yours to cover mine. Absorb the minor ass-wound of getting a CCW permit, get trained and follow the law.

Patrick McNamara
SGM, US Army (Ret)

McNamara_pistol
Patrick McNamara spent twenty-two years in the United States Army in a myriad of special operations units. When he worked in the premier Special Missions Unit, he became an impeccable marksman, shooting with accurate, lethal results and tactical effectiveness. McNamara has trained tactical applications of shooting to people of all levels of marksmanship, from varsity level soldiers, and police officers who work the streets to civilians with little to no time behind the trigger.

His military experience quickly taught him that there is more to tactical marksmanship than merely squeezing the trigger. Utilizing his years of experience, McNamara developed a training methodology that is safe, effective and combat relevant and encourages a continuous thought process. This methodology teaches how to maintain safety at all times and choose targets that force accountability, as well as provides courses covering several categories, including individual, collective, on line and standards.

While serving as his Unit’s Marksmanship NCO, he developed his own marksmanship club with NRA, CMP, and USPSA affiliations. Mac ran monthly IPSC matches and ran semi annual military marksmanship championships to encourage marksmanship fundamentals and competitiveness throughout the Army.

He retired from the Army’s premier hostage rescue unit as a Sergeant Major and is the author of T.A.P.S. (Tactical Application of Practical Shooting).

Mission Spec Releases New Light Weight Plate Carrier

Saturday, December 7th, 2013

Mission Spec is happy to announce the release of their new plate carrier. The Essentials Only Carrier (EOC) is a light weight (23 ounces), low profile solution for those seeking a minimalistically designed armor carrier.

eocHero_01

The EOC was designed to fit two medium sized shooters cut SAPI armor plates. The 1000 Denier Cordura constructed carrier utilizes ITW Nexus acetal polymer buckles. All components are nIR treated and/or compliant (excluding black). All design, testing, and manufacturing was performed in the United States.

The rear plate bag can be independently raised to offer better rear armor protection to a wider range of users. Patterned (ie: MultiCam) EOCs include pattern matching PALS webbing, side straps, and outward facing loop. Spacer (air) mesh faces the user on both the front and rear to help wick moister away while also improving airflow. The low profile design allows the EOC to be concealed under a light jacket for undercover uses.

The EOC is fully compatible with DKX Max III Polyethylene armor (shooters cut) available at MissionSpec.com.

To compliment the release of the EOC, Mission Spec has also released their Shoulder Savers. Designed specifically to be used with the EOC however the Shoulder Savers can be used with nearly any plate carrier that utilizes 2″ wide (or less) shoulder straps. Communication cables and hydration tubes can also be routed and secured via the Shoulder Savers.

Both the EOC and Shoulder Savers were scheduled to be released in Black, Coyote, and MultiCam. However, an unforeseen shipping mishap resulted in the Coyote being lost. At release, Black and MultiCam are ready to ship immediately with the Coyote counterpart approximately one week from completing production. Future patterns to be released; Kryptek and M81 Woodland.
