Hogue – OverMolded Collapsible Buttstocks

Wednesday, July 9th, 2014

15250L_02

Hogue has adapted their OverMolded technology to a line of polymer buttstocks, providing a comfortable rubber cheek rest that also functions as an anti-rattle design that prevents movement along the buffer tube. The buttpad is a hybrid design, with a polymer cap that provides snag-free shouldering and a rubber pad that cushions the shoulder from recoil. Additionally, the stock also includes multiple swivel-sleeve and sling-mounting positions.

Available in Black, Desert Tan, OD Green, Pink, Ghillie Green, Ghillie Tan, and Red Lava.

San Tan Tactical – STT-15 Lower Receiver

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

JCL_9010

San Tan Tactical’s STT-15 was developed as a truly ambidextrous AR-15 lower. The STT-15 is machined from a billet of 7075-T651 aluminum and finished in Mil-Spec, MIL-A-8625 Type III hard anodizing. The STT-15 can be further customized from a selection of selector switches, take down pins, geissele triggers, butt stocks, and cerakoted finishes.

We had an original production model, and the current version is a major improvement in that they really tightened up the tolerances and improved the ambi parts. I like it…a lot.

Prometheus Design Werx – One To Watch

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

You may not have heard of Prometheus Design Werx yet, but once you know a little about them you’ll realize that they’re really an old friend. Turns out, PDW is the creation of a small group that includes Patrick York Ma. Patrick and I have known each other for years and I’ve always admired his commitment to design applied to his thirst for adventure. Over the years, he’s created some really cool gear. If you’re familiar with the Prometheus story from Greek mythology, it’s obviously an apt name for this company founded by Patrick Ma and manufacturing specialist Chris Whitney. There are always challenges to starting a new company, but these two guys have taken it all in stride and done a stellar job right out of the gate.

Like a stealth bomber, PDW has been flying under the radar since January, developing new products and working on design collaborations with other brands they admire. Their aesthetic is utilitarian to be sure, but there is a level of finesse that belies a commitment to good design. It has a beauty all its own. Obviously, they’re doing something right. They launched their website to little fanfare just a week ago and sold out their wares within hours. Definitely, one to watch.

QuickTop Shelters

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

Many use pop up sun shelters but they are prone to breakage. Recently, I was introduced to QuickTop Shelters during a trip to Maryland. I was impressed with the durability as well as the good looks of these shelters. They are available in solid colors as well as printed covers. Available in 10′ x 10′ or 10′ x 12.5′ they would be great for trade shows.

QuickTop Shelters are Made in USA. In fact, they’re manufactured right outside of DC and you are going to start seeing them everywhere. Already, sports teams are purchasing them for their durability. I recently had a chance to visit their factory and see everything this company does. They build pieces of kit that are used by virtually everyone in the military. These QuickTop Shelters are based on technology designed for the frames of Decon Shelters. Not only are they strong and durable, but they are also easy to set up as you can see in this video.

Phokus Research Update

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

There’s a couple of announcements from Phokus Research regarding their products and customers. First, the Sons Trauma Kit line has been expanded to four sizes, and consists of the Mobility, Deployment, Low-Vis, and Shield variants. The Mobility and Shield versions were created to fulfill end-user requirements.

Phokus_Trauma Kit_Family

Their LVD II has the same contents as the DTK II. This means end users can carry our kit under their armor or on their belt in the small of the back (Using the First Spear Low Vis Pouch). The Zippered Training Kits have been overwhelmingly popular due to training concerns which means no more destroying a deployment kit in training. The Phokus Z-Fold Gauze is now replacing competitors gauze within DOD and it’s also Berry Compliant and has a secondary use as a Hemostatic Training Gauze (Same Dimensions). The Blood Type Stickers, Rip Cord Extenders, and the other products we showed you after Warrior West are just the beginning for Phokus. They were born out of necessity; their requirement for flat Trauma Supplies.

Phokus_Hoplite

Also, Naval Special Warfare has added the Hoplite to the new Visual Augmentation System Kit. Hoplites are issued with every new PVS-31 in use by NSW commands.

Phokus Research Group will be present at Warrior Expo East, booth #1009. If you have the opportunity, give them a visit and check out their products.
