OR Summer Market – Texollini

Wednesday, August 6th, 2014

Texollini is a fabric company well known in the commercial market. What many don’t know is that they offer FR fabrics as well. They use a lot of wool in their performance military FR fabrics but they don’t rely on the super wash process used by many but rather a use proprietary process. This helps control costs. They also work with FR Rayon and this material is going into the new FR bra for female Soldiers. If you’re looking for a performance or FR fabric, they’re definitely a company to look at.

OR Summer Market – Cilo Gear

Wednesday, August 6th, 2014

Cilo Gear is well known for building ultra-lightweight mountaineering packs. Over time, specialized customers have come to them to build customized load carrying solutions. We’ve highlighted several in the past. This newest pack is the 40 Sniper Pack. While it was designed to carry a full length bolt gun vertically or at left or right canted. The kicker is that the users of these packs don’t have a primary duty as snipers but use accurized rifles in certain applications. They can carry the packs in the bag and get them into action very quickly but due to the means of carry they maintain a very low profile.

20140806-114823-42503694.jpg

This 40 liter pack weighs less than 4 lbs and is made of MultiCam face fabric reinforced with Cuben fibers. The secret sauce is the cradle that holds the action of the rifle in place. I’ve seen guys run with it and it is very stable. In addition to a EDMF frame sheet which has a great deal of vertical strength that doesn’t sacrifice lateral mobility, it also accept and old school ALICE frame for you Luddites out there.

If you’re a customer for this pack, contact Cilo gear with your government email address for photos of it in use and additional information. This is not a standard production pack.

In addition to the recent reveal of the Scorpion W2 pattern, now known as OCP, the US Army has also announced minor changes to the Army Combat Uniform to coincide with the new camouflage pattern. Beginning in Fall of 2015, the new ACU in OCP will feature lower leg pockets with button closure instead of the current hook and loop fastener. The insert pockets for knee and elbow pads will also be removed.

Additional changes being considered by the Army Uniform Board include:

– elimination of the mandarin collar and replacement with a fold-down design
– change of the infrared square identification for friend or foe, known as the IFF tab
– removal of one of three pen pockets on the ACU sleeve
– elimination of the drawstring on the trouser waistband

Again, the US Army will begin issuing the improved Army Combat Uniform in Operational Camouflage Pattern in Fall 2015. Military clothing sales stores will begin selling the improved ACU in Summer 2015. Soldiers will be given three years, between the period of initial adoption in Fall 2015 and the Summer 2018 requirement date, to transition to the new ACU.
