Security Devices International – BIP 40mm Round Ballistics Video

Saturday, August 22nd, 2015

At the recent U.S. Tactical Supply Oregon Department of Corrections Less Than Lethal Demo, WD Forensics shot a live video of Security Devices International’s 40mm BIP round being shot into ballistic gelatin. Although not a measured test, the video does show how effective the BIP round can be on a target.

Additionally, SDI’s full range of 40mm munitions are now available through their GSA contract, # GS-07F-0259N.

LEO Firearms Qualificaiton Standard

Ken’s GFM was spot on about having easy standards that Ray Charles could pass. I don’t mean to pick on Florida because I know Boynton Beach PD, Hillsboro County & Polk County Sheriffs shoot well beyond the standard attached, but I don’t believe the standard is for them, rather than for the Sheriff or other busy decision makers that don’t have time to get to out the range.

I’ll raise the B/S flag on that one because I pay attention around the PDs and Sheriffs offices I train at. I see a Sheriff in Arkansas instructing civilians on his off time on top of being a political figure in the community. Most law enforcement agencies have gotten better about raising their level of training in recent years, but there are still those LEOs walking the streets that should be carrying a tazer instead of a firearm.

Check out the Florida standard I’ve attached and ask yourself, is it challenging?

Maybe with a tomahawk and a blind fold!

Respectfully,

Daryl Holland

    Jetboil Genesis

    Friday, August 21st, 2015

Jetboil fans rejoice. At OR Summer Market they released a new double burner basecamp stove for the field gourmet.

The Genesis uses a butane cartridge to offer 10,000 BTUs per burner although I’d say that the 9 lbs 14 oz design is better suited to vehicle operations.

The system comes complete with double burners, butane connection hose, windscreen, ceramic coated frying pan, 5 liter pot with Flux Ring which really speeds up boiling, pot lid, and carrying case. Notice, there’s also a standard size burner attached via hose for coffee.
