Varusteleka – Särmä Jacket Liner

Sunday, September 27th, 2020

Our friends at Varusteleka have done it again. This is their Särmä Jacket Liner.

Yep, it looks an awful lot like the old M-65 Field Jacket Liner and that’s ok, because basically, it is. The Field Jacket Liner was a versatile piece of insulation, and so is this. It’s a simple, button-in quilted polyester insulation jacket liner.

Offered in any color as long as its Black in sizes X-small through XX-large with several long lengths as well.

Zac Brown’s Camp Southern Ground Resumes On-site Programming with Two Veteran Transition Programs

Saturday, September 26th, 2020

Atlanta, Georgia, September 23, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Camp Southern Ground, a multi-missioned non-profit organization founded by GRAMMY Award-winning artist Zac Brown, has re-opened its doors to veterans for the first time since on-site programming was postponed last spring due to COVID-19.

If you have ever been to a Zac Brown Band concert, you’ve seen evidence of Zac Brown’s strong devotion to country. He believes it is our obligation to honor and care for the men and women who have fought for our country upon their return home. With the spread of COVID-19 and the ensuing social distancing restrictions, reopening Camp Southern Ground to meet the needs of these Warriors has been of the utmost importance. Social isolation and loneliness increase the risk of mental health issues like depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide. While this has been a challenge for everyone, it has hit veterans especially hard and they need support more than ever.

“We have seen an increased demand in programming since the start of COVID-19 due to the anxiety, financial instability and limited socialization felt by our nation’s veterans. We remained connected with our veterans through virtual programming, but we know the importance of building community and support face-to-face,” says Mike Dobbs, Camp Southern Ground CEO.

Camp Southern Ground remains committed to supporting veteran mental health and wellbeing with two on-site programs. Warrior Week, their signature 12-month workforce and wellness program, begins with a high-touch week at Camp. The goal of this week is to help transitioning veterans discover their strengths, define their purpose, and develop an action plan for a productive and fulfilling life after service.

Warrior PATHH (Progressive Alternative Training for Healing Heroes), which also starts with a high-touch week at Camp, is the nation’s first non-clinical program aimed to cultivate and facilitate post traumatic growth among combat veterans struggling with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and/or combat stress. Delivered in partnership with the Boulder Crest Foundation, this 18-month program delivers training for veterans to regain the capacity to regulate their thoughts, feelings, and actions, as well as improve their physical, emotional, spiritual, and economic well-being.

“The words ‘life-changing’ can’t even begin to describe this program and staff.” – Travis, USMC Veteran

“I learned how to believe in and depend on myself again.” – Mike, US Army Veteran

“Warrior PATHH saved my life.” – Dustin, US Army Veteran

Supported in part by generous partners and supporters, both Warrior programs are offered at no cost to veterans from across the U.S.

If you or someone you know is a post-9/11 veteran struggling to find your new mission in life after military service, Camp Southern Ground can help. Visit CampSouthernGround.org/veteran-programs or call (678)561-9600 to learn more and apply.

BAE Systems – AGR-20A Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System Guidance Kit for 2.75” Rockets

Saturday, September 26th, 2020

BAE’s AGR-20A Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System is a guidance kit which transforms a standard 2.75-inch (70 mm) rocket into a precision weapon for use against soft or lightly armored targets. Because APKWS rockets are lightweight, low-cost, and modular, they have the flexibility to launch off nearly any ground vehicle, with necessary modifications, and can hit moving or stationary targets on the first shot with low collateral damage.

The APKWS laser-guided rocket is the U.S. Government’s only program of record for a 2.75-inch (70mm) laser-guided rocket. In fact, they’ve manufactured well over 35,000 in the five years of the program.

It has achieved over a 93% hit rate when fired from US Navy and Marine Corps rotary- and fixed-wing platforms in combat. It has also been deployed from Army and Air Force Aircraft.

Ground-launch capabilities provide warfighters with a precision strike capability with greater range and more lethality than small arms fire, to engage targets independently without close air support.

Its accuracy is achieved by the Distributed Aperture Semi-Active Laser Seeker (DASALS) seeker optics that deploy after the rocket is fired. The seekers are mounted at he leading edge of the rocket’s canards and work as one. This enables the rocket to see the entire field of regard, and lock onto laser-designated targets but doesn’t require a seeker in the warhead.

The island of Kos, Greece

Kos has been inhabited since the prehistoric times, with a rich ancient history. It was a member of the 7th century BC Dorian Hexapolis alliance and it was even mentioned in Homer’s Iliad as a participant in the Trojan War.

In case you missed it, here’s a close up.

The Dutch Armed Forces and Rheinmetall Renew long-term Framework Agreement for Ammunition – Potential Aggregate Value of €500 Million

Friday, September 25th, 2020

Rheinmetall and the Dutch procurement agency Defence Materiel Organization (DMO) have renewed and expanded their longstanding framework agreement for the supply of various types of ammunition for a period of at least ten years. The framework agreement envisages annual call-offs of around €50 million, meaning that total volume could come to €500 million. The customer is already preparing for the first call-offs.

The framework agreement encompasses the supply of 35mm medium-calibre ammunition for infantry fighting vehicles, 40mm ROSY smoke/obscurant cartridges, and a family of state-of-the-art 155mm artillery ammunition.
Major General Ivo de Jong, Deputy Director of the DMO, and Roman Köhne, Managing Director of Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, signed the contract on 30 July 2020. This is another good example of the fruitful, longstanding cooperation between the DMO and the Düsseldorf-based weapon and ammunition specialist. The framework agreement follows a partnership agreement signed by the two parties just over a year ago and further underscores the customer’s strong confidence in Rheinmetall’s ammunition expertise.

By means of this agreement, the DMO wants to source safe, state-of-the-art ammunition for the Dutch armed forces – both today and tomorrow.

Under the aforementioned partnership agreement, Rheinmetall has already assumed full responsibility for the complete 155mm portfolio, which extends from the Assegai ammunition family to modular charges and fuses.
