UF PRO Launches Urban Line

Wednesday, September 27th, 2017

Maker of innovative tactical clothing announced its newest line: “Urban” for wear while conducting operations in metropolitan situations where blending in with the crowd is essential. The line employs state-of-the art fabrics that deliver real comfort while withstanding the kind of punishment that comes from field operations in all weathers.

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (SEP. 26, 2017) – UF PRO®, maker of innovative clothing for military and law enforcement personnel, today announced the new line of rugged yet civilian-looking tactical apparel for wear in “urban jungles.”

The line is in fact called “Urban” and is designed for both function and fashion, the company said.

The UF PRO® Urban line consists of pants, jacket, t-shirt, and polo short, all made from state-of-the-art fabrics that feel cottony soft but can withstand the punishment of prolonged brutalizing field operations in rain or cold weather, according to the company.

“The Urban line gives you the best of everything,” said Armin Wagner, head of UF PRO® product development. “Urban delivers the performance you’d expect from a great piece of tactical kit, it’s incredibly comfortable, you can wear it year-round, it looks fantastic, and its styling is such that you won’t stand out like a sore thumb when you’re mingling with crowds of people.”

UF PRO® P-40 Urban Pants

The UF PRO® P-40 Urban pants are based on UF PRO®’s popular P-40 pants. Key attributes of the P-40 Urban pants are excellent freedom of movement, comfortable fit, superior knee protection, and seasonal adaptability, said Wagner.

“Our P-40 Urban Pants combine a sturdy rip-stop material with a state-of-the-art stretch material from Schoeller textile,” Wagner explained. “The pants stay remarkably durable and stretchy because this hybrid material is incorporated exactly where it’ll do you the most good.”

Wagner added that the Urban P-40 pants stay comfortable during the summer due to the fabric’s breathability. Come winter, the pants turn cold-weather ready simply by slipping in an optional WINDSTOPPER® lining, he said.

UF PRO® M1 Field Jacket

IMG_4474

The feature-packed UF PRO® M1 Field Jacket is patterned after the U.S. Army’s World War II-era M41 field jacket, but with several futuristic enhancements, said Wagner.

One of the biggest updates is use of EtaProof® fabric, a high-tech cotton. The material gives the jacket breathability while also making it permanently water-repellent.

“EtaProof® fabric is spun from very thin twisted fibres woven into an extremely dense plain-weave fabric,” Wagner said. “When this material gets wet – from rain, for instance – it absorbs the moisture, swells and eliminates almost all of the empty space between individual fibres. This keeps the water out, for the most part.”

The jacket also features an abundance of inner pockets and interior loops to permit secure carrying of small gear – up to and including a concealed sidearm, according to Wagner, who noted that, like the pants, the jacket also converts from summer to winter duty with the insertion of a liner (in this instance, one made from Merino wool).

UF PRO® Urban Shirts

IMG_4476

Two shirts round out the UF PRO® P-40 Urban line. One is a casual t-shirt, the other is a polo shirt, Wagner reported.

Both, he said, are fabricated from 37.5™ polyester-cotton blended Pique knit, which accords them a remarkably comfortable yet sturdy character.

“It’s a wash-and-wear fabric,” he explained. “You toss your P-40 Urban tee or polo into the washing machine, hang it up to dry overnight, and put it on wrinkle-free in the morning – no ironing necessary. And thanks to the 37.5™ technology, the fabric is the fastest drying of its kind ever.”

Wagner added that the fabric boasts excellent odor-control properties and provides enhanced protection against UV rays.

The UF PRO® Urban shirts, jacket and pants caused quite a stir among show-goers earlier this year at the IWA OutdoorClassics international trade show held in Nuremberg, Germany, where the full line debuted, Wagner indicated.

“Until Urban came along, it used to be that your options in an urban jungle were limited to tactical clothing that emphasized function at the expense of fashion, or the opposite,” he said. “The Urban line gives you both without sacrificing either – full technical functionality and attractive styling.”

TYR Tactical Tuesday – New HQ Grand Opening

Tuesday, September 26th, 2017

Yeasterday, I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of TYR Tactical’s new facility in Peoria, Arizona. It’s quite a sight.

E0B9F87E-C797-4B84-83DB-8F37C5DCEFE4

This newly constructed headquarters is 78,000 sq ft, more than double the size of their previous location. It was built with growth in mind, and designed to increase efficiency and warehousing capacity. These two factors will decrease costs and improve lead times. For example, they’ve already realized cost savings from being in one building. At the old facility, employeees would have to go outside to get from one building to the other and the HVAC was in a constant battle with the Arizona heat. Now, with everyone under one roof, there aren’t as many doors opening and closing.

Their goal was to build a campus-like atmosphere and they’ve accomplished it. This new facility includes a green space complete with a walking track out front to encourage exercise before shift and during breaks, cafeteria with rollup doors were employees can relax and take a break from the day, and bathrooms for each team. The idea was to have every employee loving their work environment. Before they had a handful of microwaves to warm lunches. Now, there are 36 and the crew can spend more time enjoying their lunch and less time standing in line.

It’s a very distinct aesthetic, presenting a clean, organized space. During design they created a facility to reflect the products they bring to market: innovative design, attention to detail, quality construction and clean look.

An important factor was to drastically reduce lead times on custom sized products for officers and operators who can’t wait the standard 2-4 months for protective products. Their new showroom and product development area allows them to custom fit the end user with mission specific gear. From start to finish their new turnaround time will be 2-3 business days on items such as concealable body armor and plate carriers for walk-in customers.

The median age of TYR’s sewers is 53 years old; many have been with them since 2005 in the early Diamondback Tactical days. TYR tells me they are the best in the business and thats why they had them in mind when they created this new space. In many areas, the Cut and Sew business is a dying industry, but TYR wants want to preserve quality American manufacturing and continue to create new jobs. For this reason, their plan for 2018 is to start a sewing training program. The goal is to take young, inexperienced individuals and through our apprentice program, groom them to be future high end sewers.

If you’re in the area, be sure to visit their show room, where you can buy TYR products.

It’s at 9330 North 91st Ave, Peoria, AZ, 85345.

Grey Ghost Precision Announces 6.5 Creedmoor to Catalog of Precision Rifles

Tuesday, September 26th, 2017

Lakewood, WA – Grey Ghost Precision, leading manufacturers of accurate, reliable, and attainable weapon systems, is excited to announce a new caliber to their series of rifles— the increasingly popular 6.5mm Creedmoor, or to their family and friends, “The Grim.”

The Grim, as is the case with all the Grey Ghost Rifles, is built on the powerful Grey Ghost Precision 7075-T651 billet – for both the upper and ambi-lower receiver set. After being cut, they are True Black Type III Mil Spec Hard Coat Anodized, with additional cerakoting options available.

The handguard is available in the KeyMod and the new M-LOK hand guard systems, a Magpul Gen3 PRS Stock and a Superlative Arms Adjustable Gas block.

The Grim comes with a CMC Curved or Flat Trigger, with the option to choose Geissele SSA-E with a $160.00 up-charge. The barrel is a 22” Proof Research Stainless barrel with a 1:8 twist.

“This particular caliber is the fastest growing caliber for tactical shooters, and is a great section for medium to long range (500 to 1,000 yds.) shooting,” stated Grey Ghost CEO, Casey Ingels. “Ballistically speaking, when compared to other rifles in the PRS circuit, like the .308, the 6.5 Creedmoor outperforms, with a noticeable reduction in recoil.”

Grey Ghost spends no time, wasted on production – partnering with only the best in the industry, to ensure that every product that goes out the door is worthy of it’s name. Maintaining that realm of excellence, the Grim was in production for nearly two years. What you get, is a competition-ready rifle, as soon as it comes out of the box.

“Originally developed to be based closely to that of our popular S-Heavy, the Grim needed some outside expertise in order to truly be perfect,” stated GGP Director of Business Development, Lindsey Lea. “We sent the original design over to Jim Staley and the team at Deliberate Dynamics, who helped to spec everything (trigger, buffer, gas block) and ensure that everything ran as it should. Once we had the rifle dialed in, I got in touch with Scott Satterlee (as he’s pretty much a legend). His initial response was “I LOVE IT”, but requested an upgraded PROOF barrel with an extended gas system. Adding that barrel alleviated any remaining minor issues we were having with the gun.”

The Grey Ghost Precision Grim is available now for order. Visit www.greyghostprecision.com for more details.

Jake Hoback Knives and PROOF Research Team Up on Limited-Edition PROOF of Life Axe

Tuesday, September 26th, 2017

Priest River, ID (September 2017) Jake Hoback Knives and PROOF Research are pleased to announce the release of a collaborative project, the limited edition PROOF of Life Axe.

Jake Hoback started making knives in 1990 in his backyard, pounding them out with a framing hammer and fence post nails. Since then the Idaho-based company has grown into an industry leader in the manufacture of premium knives and axes.

PROOF Research is a science-driven manufacturer of lightweight precision rifle systems, record-breaking steel barrels and carbon fiber-wrapped barrels. The company’s Advanced Composites Division develops next-generation materials to produce innovative weapon systems that lighten warfighter load while increasing durability and effectiveness.

“This was a unique collaboration,” stated Hoback, who describes his design as 1/3 tomahawk, 1/3 crash axe, and 1/3 ultra-light axe. “PROOF Research supplied the technology expertise and composite materials. Their design input was simple and concise: ‘In terms of fighting functionality, materials, and overall design – produce the highest-performance axe regardless of cost.’ Mission accomplished.”

The PROOF of Life axe is CNC-machined from solid S7 tool steel. Recesses and skeletonized cutouts reduce weight to a perfectly balanced 18 ounces, while internal structural webbing and radiused corners keep the design strong enough for heavy use. The head bevels feature scalloped channels to guide the axe into the target and to reduce the risk of glancing blows. Edge geometry was similarly well thought out, with the top of the edge bevel ground for hard chopping, and a shallower grind on the bottom edge for precise slicing and detail work.

The axe’s scales were created from aerospace-grade carbon fiber bound with high-temperature resin for maximum toughness. The fiber grain direction is also parallel to the handle for structural integrity and to reduce the transfer of impact harmonics to the hand.

“Our customers fit into one or both of two niches,” said Derek McDonald, Chief Marketing Officer for PROOF Research, “those whose profession requires the absolute highest performance, and those who demand the very best and are willing to make that investment. The PROOF of Life axe is a fit for both of those customers and also happens to be a very nice collectible for die-hard fans of both Jake Hoback Knives and PROOF Research.”

The limited edition PROOF of Life axe is available at www.jakehobackknives.com for $750.

Ballard Subsidiary Protonex’ Squad Power Manager Product Receives Go-Ahead For Full Rate Production By US Army

Monday, September 25th, 2017

VANCOUVER, CANADA and SOUTHBOROUGH, MA, USA – Ballard Power Systems (NASDAQ: BLDP; TSX: BLDP) and the Company’s wholly owned subsidiary – Protonex Technology Corporation (“Protonex”) – today announced that the U.S. Army Program Executive Office Soldier (PEO-Soldier) has received signature approval for its Mobile Soldier Power Program of Record to full rate production status, commonly known as “Milestone C”.

spm-622-in-field_1095x730.jpg

This Program of Record includes a number of new devices focused on improving power and energy management on and around the soldier, including Protonex’ Squad Power Manager Kit (SPM-622), conformal wearable batteries, and man-worn power and data distribution devices, such as Protonex’ Vest Power Manager family.

SPM-622 Squad Power Manager
“With the digitization of the battlefield, the U.S. military identified a capability gap in energy and power management for its increasing array of electronic devices,” said Paul Osenar, President of Protonex. “Our Squad Power Manager is one of the solutions that fill this gap. Lightening the load of warfighters by eliminating many of the batteries, adapters and chargers they carry was a requirement that we identified years ago. We are excited to work with the Army to provide innovative and practical power solutions like our Squad Power Manager. The Milestone C designation now enables the U.S. Army to field the SPM-622 as part of the Mobile Soldier Power Program of Record in significant volume.”

spm-622-sof-kit_av1.jpg

The SPM-622 is a tough, versatile and agile power management device, weighing less than a pound and enabling military forces to manage and prioritize power use for various electronics devices – including portable radios, GPS systems, Medical and EOD equipment, and computers – from any available power source. In addition, the SPM-622’s ability to scavenge from vehicles, other batteries, solar panels and other energy sources allows military units to recharge mission essential batteries when resupply is unavailable or delayed. As a result, the U.S. Department of Defense and Allied militaries have deployed more than 5,500 Protonex SPM Power Manager Kits through the limited production phase of the program.

spm-622-satcomm.jpg

The small, light and intelligent SPM-622 system increases mobility and flexibility of the warfighter. The product fulfills a U.S. Army requirement that has been validated by deployed units engaged in combat operations in austere environments, delivering a number of high-priority benefits to military end-users that include: reliable power for a variety of electronic devices, including equipment for communications, medical, explosive ordinance detection and directed fires; lightened load due to reduced battery burden; reduced logistical strain in remote locations or austere environments as a result of the lower quantity and variety of batteries needed; increased energy independence; and increased operational and mission effectiveness.

The SPM-622 Squad Power Manager was developed by Protonex and is manufactured at production facilities located in Southborough, Massachusetts.
