Arc’teryx- London

Tuesday, September 15th, 2015

Earlier this month, Arc’teryx opened its first European brand store in the heart of London. I was fortunate enough to visit the store yesterday and several friends asked me to take photos.

I’ve visited the brand stores in Seattle as well as Washington, DC and this is the largest of the three, with two floors.

Shoppers are greeted with a daily update of weather conditions at several mountain destinations.

Upstairs is Women’s Wear.

In addition to multiple mannequin displays of the clothing and gear, Arc’teryx wants its customers to participate and there are several ways to do that.

I am most impressed by Arc’teryx’s effort to incorporate the brand story into the store. First and foremost is pride in their relationship with W.L. Gore & Co.

This includes interactive displays on the materials they use.

Arc’teryx takes pride in their color offerings and there are some hands on displays to help you see what they are all about.

The store is well staffed and they are both friendly and knowledgeable.

You walk down a large, open staircase to reach the lower level. This massive, floor-to-ceiling display is at the foot of the stairs and showcases some amazing artifacts.

Having visited the factory in Vancouver several years ago I can tell you that in the past, several of these custom jigs and molds were trade secrets, closely held by the company. They give you a real behind-the-scenes look at the ingenuity of their designers.

There is even a Veilance section as well as footwear (not pictured).

All-in-all, the London Arc’teryx store is a great experience and I highly recommend you visit, if you’re in town.

Arc’teryx LEAF – Assault Glove FR

Wednesday, August 19th, 2015

Winter’s coming. I’ve had a pair of these new FR Assault Gloves for a couple of months now. While they aren’t a full on winter glove, they are great for weapon handling and other tasks that require dexterity. I’ve long been a fan of the Bird’s ergonomic glove patterning. One feature I really like is the touch screen friendly fingertips because I hate having to take gloves off and put them back on, over amd over again, each time I need to use a mobile device.

Made from Tencate’s 10 oz Defender-M interlock fabric along with goat leather for FR. The gloves also incorporate utility loops for stowage and a cut off option for the index finger.

Arc’teryx Expands Footwear Line in 2016

Friday, August 7th, 2015

Arc’teryx debuted a groundbreaking footwear line in summer 2014 and just released it for sale a few months ago but a major focus of this summer’s OR booth is the expansion of their offerings for Spring 16.

Acrux AR

IMG_6471.JPG

This is Arc’teryx Footwear Product Line Manager Federico Sbrissa with the Acrux AR, the boot that started the whole process several years ago. Although this double mountaineering boot concept actually came first, Arc’teryx introduced low-cut approach shoes (Alpha2 FL) and mid-cut Hiking and Light Trekking boots (Bora Mid) first, while the more challenging design matured. It’s ready now and will be available not long after the new year.

As you can see, the new Acrux AR is fully crampon compatible. Although similar in construction to the Bora, in that the liner booty is removable, the Acrux AR incorporates an integral gaiter design with a waterproof T Zip which makes uo the outer portion of the boot.

This double boot also has a PE preformed inner shell which laces tightly over the removable Gore-Tex booty and offers adaptive fit. The Vibram mountaineering outsole is part of a six component sole system which also includes carbon fiber, EVA midsole and TPU heel and toe cups.

One product that consumers have been clamoring for is a leather version of the Bora Mid and as you can see, Arc’teryx did not disappoint.

Leather Bora Mid

In addition to expanded color options for the existing Alpha2 FL and Bora Mid, Arc’teryx announced the Acrux SL and Arakys shoe models, in both men’s and women’s versions. The Acrux SL’s approach shoe design won’t incorporate Gore-Tex and is very light at 300 grams per shoe.

Arakys

The Arakys has an interesting aesthetic and is billed as an ultralight bouldering and single pitch shoe. The heel of the upper is collapsible so that you can shove your foot right into it for causal use and the closure system can be used one-handed. Finally, it has a leather footbed for barefoot comfort.

OR – Arc’teryx Atom SL

Thursday, August 6th, 2015

The Atom jacket has long been one of Arc’s most popular designs but it just too warm for late spring through early fall. Arc’teryx has answered this with the new Atom SL, coming Spring 16.

The Atom SL retains all of the styling of the heavier variants but uses less Coreloft insulation in order to work for those chilly summer nights in the desert or on a mountain. Additionally, it features a low profile uninsulated stormhood, low profile Torrent fleece side panels and the new No-Slip Zip which incorporates a “speed bump” every 14th tooth so that the zipper won’t open all the way to your chest with a simple tug.

The Atom SL will be offered in several colors but remeber, this isn’t a LEAF piece. The Grey seen here will work pretty well for most folks who want to use this on the job.

Arc’teryx LEAF – Assault Glove FR

Tuesday, July 21st, 2015

Announced during SHOT Show, the new Assault Glove FR follows the new LEAF policy of naming products after what they are intended to be used for. This name is pretty straight forward, letting you know it’s a glove, intended to be used for assaulting aka shooting and other combat related tasks and that it’s Flame Resistant.

They are made from TenCate Defender-M 10 oz interlock fabric combined with washable goat leather knuckles and Touch Sensor Tsunami leather on the palms and fingertips. This makes them not only FR but also compatible with touch sensor screens. Additionally, the gloves incorporate utility loops for stowage and a cut off option for the index finger.

Available in Crocodile, sizes Small – XXLarge. The Assault Glove FR is in stock at many tactical stores. for further information, visit leaf.arcteryx.com

Friday, June 5th, 2015

When Arc’teryx Launched their 2015 LEAF line during SHOT Show they held something back. For years, customers have been asking Arc’teryx for FR Versions of their combat clothing. Applying its technical expertise to create functional designs that are the hardest wearing in the field, ARC’TERYX LEAF delivers its most protective and purposeful combat uniform to date with these two new designs that emphasize movement and function, while also focusing on safety with TenCate Defender M with Coolderm™ Technology.
