Logos Technologies To Exhibit Wide-Area Sensor for Integrator UAS, Low-Acoustic Bike to AUSA

New Redkite delivers powerful imaging with system that fits inside payload bay of small UAS

FAIRFAX, Va. — October 3, 2017 — Logos Technologies will be displaying for the first time at the upcoming Association of the United States Army (AUSA) expo in Washington, D.C., a Redkite wide-area sensor configured for the Insitu Integrator tactical unmanned aircraft.

IMG_4599

“For this AUSA, we will exhibit two versions of our ultra-lightweight Redkite WAMI,” said John Marion, president of Logos Technologies, “our standard podded model, plus a new integrated version — both of which have been recently tested on Group 3 unmanned aircraft systems.”

Like larger wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) systems, Redkite can cover a city-sized area (12 square kilometers) at once—detecting, tracking and recording all significant movers within the scene and transmitting multiple imagery streams to users on the ground in real time. It also stores up to eight hours of geo-tagged mission data for real time and forensic analysis.

This year, Logos Technologies conducted test flights of a Redkite fitted for the payload bay of the Insitu Integrator / RQ-21 Blackjack. This sensor version demonstrated its ability to capture and stabilize WAMI and stream it to multiple handheld devices.

Logos Technologies also successfully tested these capabilities with a platform-agnostic Redkite pod mounted to the wing of a TigerShark, a Group 3 unmanned aircraft system developed by Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC), in a flight in July.

“U.S. and international customers to AUSA will get to see how powerful WAMI sensors are now moving on to smaller platforms and what that means for the tactical commander,” Marion said.

Also on display for the first time at the AUSA expo is the SilentHawk all-wheel drive, hybrid-electric motorcycle designed to quietly carry troops and their gear over rough terrain and behind enemy lines. Logos Technologies was recently awarded a second Phase II SBIR for further optimization of the motorcycle’s design.

Combat II Ballistic Helmet L110 From 3M Modernizes Head Protection for Today’s Threats

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017

New helmet offers greatest protection level in its weight classification

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sept. 28, 2017 – Globally, military and police forces are seeking a state-of-the-art helmet to protect their service members from modern threats, like rifle fire and explosive devices. Ceradyne Inc., a 3M company, designed the new Combat II Ballistic Helmet L110 to meet this pressing need at a level of comfort that appeals to users. The helmet leverages 3M scientific expertise to deliver its highest ballistic protection to date, and is based on a technology that has already been proven with the U.S. military.

Designed for military combat operations and counterterrorism police missions, the Combat II L110 helmet can help protect service members from bomb fragmentations, certain rifle projectiles, handgun bullets and blunt impacts. The helmet provides protection against select small arms projectiles including V50 ballistic limit value greater than 2,400 feet per second (greater than 731 meters per second) against the 7.62 x 51 mm M80 NATO ball projectile.

“A helmet’s job first and foremost is to protect our defenders in harm’s way, and today that requires an advanced solution like the Combat II Ballistic Helmet L110,” said Cheryl Ingstad, business manager, Advanced Ceramics Platform – Defense, 3M. “Our engineers put their passion and scientific expertise toward inventing a cutting-edge helmet that gets the most from the latest advanced materials. Military and law enforcement can take comfort knowing they have a partner in 3M that deeply cares about keeping service members safe.”

The Combat II L110 helmet achieves its high level of protection without increased weight. This allows military and police forces to receive greater protection without sacrificing mobility, which is required for today’s increasingly urban missions and close-quarters combat.

To date, Ceradyne has produced tens of thousands of helmets that utilize similar technology to the L110 helmet. Ceradyne can manufacture the helmet today in large quantities, at high quality under tight timelines. Additionally, local support can be provided to customers across their program’s life cycle.

Ceradyne produces the Combat II L110 helmet with ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene composites and uses proprietary, seamless, ballistic-molding technology to form a durable protective shell. The helmet’s proven geometry allows uninhibited movement when the helmet is worn with most ballistic vests with collars. The helmet is offered in sizes small through extra-large and supports a variety of accessories and communication needs.

3M will debut the helmet at Booth 7243 at the AUSA 2017 Annual Meeting and Exposition, Oct. 9-11 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

AUSA – Oxx Coffeebox

Friday, October 7th, 2016

Most everyone appreciates a cup of coffee in the morning. Doubly so when in the field. During Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2015, we saw the Oxx Coffeebox. During my discoursing with the creator, I suggested he check out the military market. At this week’s AUSA, there he was. Coffee and Soldiers are like peas and carrots.

The 120v Coffeebox is the world’s first ruggedized coffeemaker. It is K-cup compatible and brews a hot cup of coffee in 90 seconds. Designed for use in rigged environments, it’s crush proof as well as impact, water and dust resistant.

They’ve even introduced a Tan version. Military discounts available.
