Wednesday, April 25th, 2018

Designed for the operator out in the frozen North (or South) the Expedition Guide 75 is the latest in a long line of unique boots manufactured by Swedish company Lundhags. A longstanding family brand specialising in making footwear, clothing and equipment they focus on the needs of the hardest users.

The Expedition Guide 75 is replacing its predecessor, the Husky 75, as the in service ski boot with a number of specialist military units, including the Sirius Patrol. The new lighter and more streamlined boot with its monocoque style of construction is being used by the British forces to provide a versatile, light and reliable boot for operations on the Northern Flank.

As focus turns to the ability to operate in sub-zero temperatures this boot provides an excellent balance between skiing and the normal movement required to conduct military operations.

As you can see, it features a Panama II outsole. Inside, there’s a puncture resistant textile insole and medial and lateral side drainage perforations. The vamp construction acts as a screen for sand and debris.

There’s also a removable PU footbed which provides some shock absorption and sits the sole just a bit off of the puncture proof insole which might have a bit of water which hasn’t drained. This helps keep your feet drier.

Altama is working on a new version of their PRO-X boot. The original is a straight up Jungle Boot design but this new model combines the US Army 8″ Temperate upper with the PRO-X sole system. It incorporates a direct attach polyurethane midsole which uses Dual Density Technology with comfort pods.

As you can see, it incorporates the classic Panama tread which remains the best sole for use in the jungle due to its ability to release mud.

US Marine Corps to Assess Boots at Parris Island

Saturday, March 31st, 2018

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. —

In an effort to continually improve the clothing and equipment Marines are issued, Marine Corps Systems Command will conduct an assessment to see if lighter boots can improve recruit performance. Plans are to compare two lighter boots to the Marine Corps Combat Boot during a recruit training cycle at Parris Island.

One boot, the Danner Reckoning Hot Weather Boot was authorized for optional wear by Marine Corps Systems Command in 2017.

“The feedback we’ve received from Marines on the Reckoning boots, is positive,” said Todd Towles, project officer for the Clothing and Equipment Team at Marine Corps Systems Command. “The boots are lightweight, durable, and there’s virtually no break-in period.”

Now, program officials plan to compare the Reckoning and another relative newcomer—the Rocky Tropical boot. The Rocky Tropical performed well in jungle environments during a 2017 user evaluation with 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Hawaii.

The program office will issue 700 Reckoning boots and 700 Rocky Tropical boots to male and female recruits. Half of the Danner and half of the Rocky will go to a male company and remaining boots will be issued to a female company.

The purpose of the assessment is to do a comparison between the Rocky and Reckoning and the Marine Corps Combat Boot to see if there is a decrease in lower extremity injuries.

The MCCB has been in the Corps’ inventory since 2001 and is a seabag issue item.

The three-month assessment is planned to take place this summer, Towles said.

Original SWAT Public Order Boot, Winner of NAUMD’s Best Footwear Innovation Award

Thursday, March 29th, 2018

Morristown, TN – March 28, 2018

The development of the Original Footwear Co public order boot was the result of feedback from users around the Globe. Traditionally boots used for public order had an external metatarsal guard to protect the lace area at the front of the foot. This didn’t also work so well however. Police officers were still getting injured due to the guards not fitting properly and if petrol bombs were thrown the petrol would tend to continue to burn underneath the guard damaging both the boot and potentially causing further injury.

Our response to that was to make a boot with a metatarsal guard that was integrated into the boot. High impact PU is built into the tongue area of the boot and additional protection is also provided on the external ankle area of the boot.

The boot is made from fire resistant full grain leather and also has FR laces and thread. Non metallic safety toe cap and a non metallic anti-penetration plate provide excellent protection and the boot is finished with 3M® Defender to ensure liquid run off the boots.

After extensive end user testing around the World the boot is now complete and certified to EN ISO 20345:2011, the international safety boot standard and British Standard BS 7971:2016 Part 5 which is the only dedicated public order footwear standard in the World.

“We are honored that our Original S.W.A.T.® Public Order Boot won the Best Footwear Innovation Award at NAUMD. We worked hard to get this product certified by the major safety testing agencies in the world.” said Kevin Cole, CEO of the Original Footwear Company.

The Original S.W.A.T® Public Order Boot is now available worldwide.
