Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Ball Raises Over $500,000 for Sea Service Families In Need

Sunday, April 2nd, 2023

Funds allow the nonprofit organization to continue providing emergency financial
assistance to active-duty and retired Navy and Marine Corps personnel and their families.

WASHINGTON (March 27, 2023) — After a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society hosted their black-tie fundraising ball on Saturday, March 25, 2023 and raised over $500,000. Senior military leaders, NMCRS supporters, corporate executives and military families gathered in support of the organization’s mission of providing financial, educational and other assistance to active duty and retired members of the Sea Services of the United States, their family members and survivors.

The event, themed “Together Again,” included a reception, dinner, silent auction and dancing. General Eric Smith, Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps; The Honorable Russell Rumbaugh, Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management & Comptroller); and Vice Admiral Rick Cheeseman, Chief of Naval Personnel and Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Manpower, Personnel and Training started the evening off by applauding NMCRS volunteers and employees for extending the special kind of care and compassion that assists clients when they need it the most.

Entertainment was provided by the United States Navy Band Cruisers, the Navy’s premier popular music group. Distinguished speakers included LtGen. Robert R. Ruark, president and CEO of NMCRS; Sergio Rodriguez, NMCRS volunteer and 2022 Navy Spouse of the Year. Margaret Brennan, moderator of “Face the Nation” on CBS, served as emcee for the evening. Brennan’s spouse serves in the United States Marines Corps Reserve.

“The Society is proud to play an important role in the financial, personal and family readiness of those who wear the cloth of our nation,” said Ruark during his speech. “Long deployments, family separations, frequent relocations and other unique environmental factors create exceptional hardships for those who serve and their families. NMCRS exists to be a helpful resource when needed.”

Since the ball was last held in 2019, NMCRS has provided over $141 million in financial aid and served over 230,000 clients.

The event was demonstrative of the organization’s commitment to providing Sea Service members with urgent financial assistance, financial education, scholarships and much more. USAA was the presenting sponsor and the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C. served as the venue.

“Our goal at NMCRS is to make it as easy as possible for Marines and Sailors to ask for help,” continued Ruark. “In everything we do, we are preparing clients for a solid financial future.”

Nature Is Metal Announces Partnership With Eco Defense Group

Monday, March 13th, 2023

Keep Nature Metal. In a more familiar state, the hashtag I’ve added to the bottom of every upload for as long as I can remember. It means exactly what it says: Keep nature metal, in other words, leave wildlife alone to do that thing they do. It’s a nice sentiment, something to print on a coffee cup to show you care, but hashtags don’t really do anything if there’s no action behind them.

Well, that all changes today.

POACHING IS THE PROBLEM, EDG IS THE SOLUTION

I am very pleased to announce that our commitment to keeping nature metal is stronger than ever before. We have officially partnered with the ECO DEFENSE GROUP, and starting today, we have also pledged to cut them a check for 10% of everything we sell in our store. If you don’t know what EDG does or why they exist, keep reading.

There is a war going on, it’s a war that doesn’t get much press in comparison but it rages every day. The planet loses an estimated 1000 rhinos, 35000 elephants and 100,000 pangolins every year, along with countless others. The illegal animal trade affects 7000 different species of animal annually and shows no signs of slowing down. These animals are on their own against an enemy with superior technology, fueled by an insatiable greed.

THIS IS WHERE EDG STEPS IN

Founded in 2017, South Africa’s ECO Defense Group is a 100% donor supported band of brothers that trains anti-poaching rangers to be the very last line of defence for these targeted species. Their ground team is made up of former US and UK Special Missions Unit experts who operate quietly in the national parks and reserves where our videos are generated, offering specialised training that would otherwise be unattainable without their help. Air/sea training, Fast Roping, Low Light, Intel Fusion-Ops and K9 programs are just a few of the areas where EDG lends their vast amount of expertise.

Without an organisation like Eco Defense Group, and without the unheralded dedication of the Rangers they support, there would be little standing in the way of these well-funded and brazen poaching syndicates, who are quite literally pillaging the natural world of its riches. Nature is Metal is committed to supporting EDG in their plight to protect these vulnerable species and help tip the scales towards the good guys for a change.

Visit the EDG website for more information about their work.

Brownells Donates $22,222 to National and State Gun Rights Organizations

Monday, March 13th, 2023

GRINNELL, Iowa (March 9, 2023) — Brownells donated $22,222 to three different gun rights organizations as part of the second annual 2A Day celebration held on February 22, 2023.

The organizations receiving a $22,222 check are the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America and the Iowa Firearms Coalition.

“As an advocate for the Second Amendment, Brownells takes great pride in supporting the fundamental right of individuals to own firearms,” said Brownells CEO Pete Brownell. “We believe responsible gun ownership is essential to safeguard the liberties and freedoms of all Americans. That’s why we are honored to contribute $22,222 to the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America and the Iowa Firearms Coalition.”

Recently, the Second Amendment Foundation has been involved in lawsuits against the ATF’s attempts to regulate items that are not firearms as if they were firearms, New York’s attempt to largely ban concealed carry, and bans on semiautomatic firearms in Illinois.

Gun Owners of America filed suit over the ATF’s attempt to ban pistol braces as well as against anti-gun laws in New York and Oregon.

The Iowa Firearms Coalition helped Iowa amend its state constitution with a guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms and is supporting a state bill that would allow gun owners to keep their carry firearms in their cars when parked at locations that ban carry inside.

USMC Scout Sniper Association Annual Sweepstakes

Tuesday, February 28th, 2023

FOR FOURTEEN YEARS, USMC Scout Sniper Association has offered the public the opportunity to win some of the finest and most authentic clones of US Marine Corps sniper rifles ever seen. Built and donated by our tremendous supporters in the shooting sports industry, these “0317 Day” raffles raised much-needed funds for our programs that continue to support the families of our fallen Marines, provide assistance to our Scout Snipers in transition and recognize the dedication and achievements of our active-duty Marine Scout Snipers.

From the Vietnam-era Winchester Model 70 that Bret won in 2022 and the authentic Mk13 Mod7 package Rad took home in 2020, to the entire M40-series of Marine Corps sniper rifles going back to the beginning, we’ve offered an example of every sniper rifle used by Marines from the Vietnam-era to the present day.

These raffles have been great fundraisers for our charitable programs, but they have also served as an important history lesson about the weapons and the men who carried them in service to our country.

The sad fact is the parts and components required to build an accurate M40 series clone are becoming more scarce and much more valuable. While it’s still possible to build a good clone, it’s not realistic to expect a donor to part with such valuable, original gun parts. So, we’ve decided to change up our offerings a bit.

We’re going to focus on great modern rifles that anyone would be proud to own

for a variety of uses, from hunting and competition, to hard use on the job.

We can’t think of a better rifle to start with than KMW’s Zealot in .308!

We’ve made our raffles available to the shooting public for 14 years, and that will not change as we transition to a sweepstakes. In fact, most of our 0317 Day raffle rifles have been won by folks outside of our Scout Sniper community. The support we’ve seen from military families, hunters, shooters, collectors and gun enthusiasts everywhere has been absolutely tremendous, so…
