Vertx Honors a Fallen Warrior

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

Like many companies, clothing manufacturer Vertx has a Facebook page, but they are doing something fantastic with theirs. Below is an excerpt from their fan page explaining just what they are up to.

On March 18th Navy SEAL Adam Brown died from injuries sustained during combat operations in Afghanistan while selflessly protecting the rest of his Team’s lives. Some of us here at Vertx had the honor of knowing and working with Adam, a couple had the privilege to call him friend. Adam is survived by his wife as well as a daughter and son, not to mention countless friends, loving family and teammates.

Adam was the epitome of the Operational Athlete you have seen described here. For every new Facebook fan we receive by April 30th up to 10,000, Vertx will donate one dollar to the Adam Brown Memorial Fund. Please use the “Suggest to Friends” link below the Vertx logo to participate. Thank you.

They had planned only to donate $2,400 but they hit 10,000 in a few days. So Vertx is planning to extend their promotion for another 2,000 new fans. If you are a member of Facebook, show your support for this cause and become a fan.

Clothing That Really Gets Your Attention

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Ping Clothing

Ping clothing is designed to give the wearer alerts thanks to embedded electronics and haptics meaning the garment will provide tactile feedback. Think of something along the lines of a tap on the shoulder. While Ping in particular is a commercial application directly tied to social networking media, imagine the same technology in a tactical garment. It could alert you to an incoming message or the tactical network calls stand to and your shirt squeezes your shoulders to rouse you awake. Or perhaps it could be used for inaudible cues within a small unit. The possibilities are endless. Hopefully we will see a viable version of such technology integrated into a Soldier ensemble.

MultiCam Scrub TopNursejoe is a supplier of military and civilian scrubs for working in extreme conditions. They offer a wide variety patterns, colors, and styles. Depending on the style, pants feature an elastic waist band or draw string for comfort. Additionally, most pants also have two side pockets for storing various equipment, pens, etc. Camo prints are their specialty and they offer scrubs in MultiCam, woodland digital (MARPAT-like), the new Navy digital, Air Force tiger as well as UCP, in addition to several other patterns. Sizes vary from XS to 3XL, but beware their sizes run big. They also have scrub hats and surgical scrubs available. So if you are in the market for a set of “tactical” scrubs check out nursejoe.com

Darn Tough Vermont Receives Team Soldier Certification

Sunday, April 11th, 2010

Thanks to their inclusion in the Army’s FREE (Fire Resistant Environmental Ensemble) clothing system, Darn Tough Vermont’s 14021 Merino Wool Boot Sock Cushion has been awarded the designation of U.S. Army Team Soldier Certified Gear by PEO Soldier making it the only sock with this distinction.

The Berry Compliant 14021 Boot Sock is made with Merino wool, a naturally flame resistant material that regulates the Soldier’s temperature in any environment. They excel during deployment because they maintain fit, comfort, and soft cushioning for days on end without washing. Additionally, their superior knit keeps their socks in place without falling down during a long day on patrol, which is a common complaint among Soldiers.

Darn Tough Vermont produces tactical socks for the US military as well as Federal Law Enforcement units. All of their tactical and military socks are available to military units at www.gsaadvantage.gov, or for individual purchase at www.adsinc.com/darntough. Their civilian all-weather performance socks, which are made with similar techniques to their tactical socks, are available in select retailers, or from online retailers at www.darntough.com.

UK-based Unleashed Tactical Equipment has just announced that Tidewater Tactical is their US Distributor. This is fantastic news for both companies and we are pretty excited about this announcement as they are both great companies. Neither should be strangers to Soldier Systems readers. We have published several articles on Unleashed over the last few months including their new IR suppression technology and Tidewater Tactical has been a long-time site sponsor. Not only do they provide support to military and Law Enforcement through various contract vehicles but they have also assembled an impressive line of product offerings.
