AeroVironment Awarded $6.2 Million Puma 3 AE Unmanned Aircraft Systems Contract by United States Marine Corps

ARLINGTON, Va., June 14, 2022 –AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in intelligent, multi-domain robotic systems, today announced receipt of a $6,166,952 firm-fixed-price contract award for Puma™ 3 AE small unmanned aircraft systems (SUAS) and spares on May 3, 2022, for the U.S. Marine Corps. Delivery is anticipated to be completed in July 2022.

U.S. Army Selects SIG SAUER Advanced Sniper Rifle Ammunition

NEWINGTON, N.H., (June 13, 2022) – Following the success of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy MK248 300WM Precision Sniper Rifle Contract, SIG SAUER is pleased to announce another U.S. Army award to manufacture the follow-on Advanced Sniper Rifle (ASR) 300 Norma Mag (NM) and armor piercing 338 Norma Mag (NM) ammunition.

“This selection by the U.S. Army to manufacture ASR ammunition reinforces SIG SAUER as the leading manufacturer of modern sniper ammunition for the U.S. Department of Defense, and demonstrates confidence in SIG’s ability to deliver the most precise ammunition in the world,” began Ron Cohen, President and CEO SIG SAUER, Inc.

The U.S. Army ASR ammunition contract consists of two cartridges: M1163, a 300NM, 215 grain round, and M1162 an armor piercing 338NM, 300 grain round. The $157MM maximum value contract includes 4.5MM rounds for the first delivery order.

PCP Tactical Selected to Produce Lightweight Polymer Cased Ammunition for the U.S. Army

PCP Tactical LLC, a defense contractor headquartered in Vero Beach, Florida has been awarded an Ordnance Technology Initiative Agreement (OTIA) from the National Armaments Consortium – DoD Ordnance Technology Consortium (NAC-DOTC) to produce 7.62mm lightweight small caliber ammunition for the US Army. This award directly supports Project Manager Maneuver Ammunition Systems (PM MAS) efforts to reduce weight for Army soldiers over-burdened by their combat load. The introduction of lightweight small caliber ammunition in a polymer case material will improve the soldier’s mobility on the battlefield to increase soldier’s lethality and survivability.

“PCP Tactical/Gorilla Ammunition has been designing and delivering weapons and lightweight polymer cased ammunition solutions to the Department of Defense for almost a decade,” said Lanse Padgett, Chief Executive Officer of PCP Tactical and Gorilla Ammunition, “and we are extremely pleased to be chosen by the Army to collaboratively develop polymer cased ammunition.”

The agreement requires PCP Tactical to produce lightweight polymer cased 7.62mm M80A1 and M62A1 ammunition that can function properly at the extreme environmental conditions anticipated on the future battlefield. The ammunition is expected to meet or exceed the internal ballistic and terminal performance requirements of current brass cased ammunition, while reducing the weight by approximately 30 percent. The M240 machine gun is the primary weapon for this effort, but the lightweight polymer ammunition is also compatible with the M14 Semi-Automatic Rifle, M110 Rifle, and the M134 Mini-Gun.

“PCP Tactical has developed an incredible working relationship with the Army over the past ten years,” said Padgett, “we have provided legacy ammunition calibers as well as next generation calibers to include armor piercing rounds to the Army. We have also provided enhanced new weapons systems and barrel conversion kits for legacy guns to reduce weight while increasing lethality. Over the last several years polymer case technology has progressed tremendously, and we are anxious to get the ammunition qualified for use by our soldiers and allies.”

US Army Awards SIG Contract for .300 NM and .338 NM Sniper Ammunition

The US Army has made the following announcement for a contract award for ammunition to be used in the Advanced Sniper Rifle, based on the Barrett Firearms MRAD:

Sig Sauer Inc., Newington, New Hampshire, was awarded a $157,300,000 firm-fixed-price contract for the production of .300 Norma Magnum M1163 ball ammunition and .338 NM armor piercing M1162 cartridges. Bids were solicited via the internet with three received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of June 7, 2027. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Newark, New Jersey, is the contracting activity (W15QKN-22-D-0019).

Rheinmetall Supplies 35mm Ammunition to NATO Customers – Contract Value Around € 20 Million

Rheinmetall has been contracted by several NATO customers to supply 35mm calibre ammunition. Deliveries will take place in 2023 and 2024 and the contract is worth a total of around €20 million. Between 2023 and 2024, Rheinmetall will supply the customer countries with various types of ammunition in 35mm x 228 calibre for infantry fighting vehicles. Rheinmetall works continuously with the user nations to further develop the combat capability of the system.

Against the background of changes in the security situation, many NATO and NATO partner countries have an increasing need for modern ammunition. Rheinmetall offers its customers an extensive portfolio in this regard and is adapting to the higher demand.

Ammunition Contract Worth Millions: Rheinmetall Wins Framework Contract to Supply 40mm Grenade Launcher Ammunition to Spanish Armed Forces

Rheinmetall continues to expand its position as a leading systems supplier for 40mm weapon and ammunition systems. The Group’s South African subsidiary Rheinmetall Denel Munition has been awarded a framework contract by the Spanish armed forces for the supply of 40mm ammunition. The contract, which was awarded a few weeks ago, is for a period of four years. It provides for the supply of 40mm x 53 high velocity combat as well as training ammunition. A first call-off in the low single-digit million euro range has already been made. The first ammunition deliveries will start in 2022.

The delivery now ordered by Spain comprises 40mm x 53 high explosive (HE), high explosive dual purpose (HEDP) as well as training ammunition with and without tracer. It is intended for the SB-40 LAG and Mk 19 grenade machine guns. These are used by the army and also by the navy.

The 40×53 mm high velocity (HV) ammunition from Rheinmetall Denel Munition reaches a velocity of 240 m/s and has an effective range of 2,200 metres. The High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) is a multi-purpose ammunition. On the one hand, it has a high fragmentation and shrapnel effect against soft targets, but as a shaped charge ammunition it can also be used against lightly armoured targets or fortified positions. It has a penetrating power of 50mm RHA (Rolled Homogenous Armour).

Rheinmetall’s product portfolio in 40mm calibre also includes 40x46mm Low Velocity and 40x51mm Medium Velocity ammunition for a wide range of applications. In addition, there are fire control systems as well as weapon systems for the grenade gunner.

For Rheinmetall Denel Munition, the framework contract is another sales success in a NATO country. It also confirms the Rheinmetall subsidiary’s competence as a systems house for indirect fire, offering innovative and reliable solutions based on technologies developed in-house.

Rheinmetall Supplies Light Artillery Cannon to U.S. Army – Contract Worth over Two Million US Dollars

Rheinmetall makes a decisive contribution to the U.S. Army’s light artillery cannon project. Rheinmetall’s subsidiary American Rheinmetall Munition (Stafford, VA) has been awarded a $2.5M contract from the U.S. Army for the delivery of a shorter and lighter artillery weapon system in support of the National Defense Strategy.

A lightweight artillery cannon would enhance the mobility, maneuverability and lethality of Army artillery systems and provide the long-range firing performance capability the Army is seeking for its entire howitzer fleet. It will further inform the Army’s ongoing capability assessment for a next-generation armament.

U.S. Marine Corps C-UAS Program Kicks off U.S. Production

MADIS production moves to Kongsberg’s world-class RWS facility in Pennsylvania

JOHNSTOWN, Penn. – May 23, 2021 – Production of the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) Remote Weapon Station (RWS) has successfully moved from Kongsberg, Norway to Kongsberg Protech Systems USA in Johnstown, Penn. with the inaugural system completing assembly and testing in March. Additional systems are also being built for MADIS as part of the U.S. Marine Corps’ Ground Based Air Defense (GBAD) modernization effort.

“Kongsberg’s Johnstown facility consistently yields remote weapon station manufacturing excellence, having produced more than 20,000 systems over the last 15 years. Our highly trained and skilled staff partnered with engineers and staff from Norway to successfully transition the production of all MADIS RWS to the Pennsylvania facility as part of our schedule and contract with the U.S. Marine Corps,” said Jason Toepfer, project manager, MADIS RWS, Kongsberg Protech Systems. “The successful build of this inaugural system exemplifies our rigorous processes, joining the 5 prototype and test assets we’ve produced for the Marine Corps in Norway. This also kicks off MADIS RWS production here in the U.S., a move that allows us to better support this customer and deliver this critical lethality enhancement.”

The KONGSBERG RS6 RWS for MADIS RWS includes the XM914E1 30mmx113mm percussion-primed cannon with a co-axial M240C (7.62mm) machine gun, an integration kit for the STINGER Air-To-Air Launcher (ATAL) and provisions for future C-UAS defeat systems. MADIS is part of the U.S. Marine Corps’ plan to upgrade their two active Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) battalions. The first 30mm remote weapon system to be qualified on the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle platform (JLTV), MADIS RWS mounts on JLTVs and fights as a complimentary pair, designated as Mk1 and Mk2. The MADIS Mk1 features STINGER missiles, and neutralizes fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. Mk2 fulfills the Counter-Unmanned Aircraft System (C-UAS) mission requirement, while also providing radar and command-and-control for the pair.

The U.S. Marine Corps awarded Kongsberg the indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity other transaction authority (OTA) production contract in Sept. 2021. It has a ceiling of $94 million and includes a series of Low-Rate Initial Production (LRIP) systems, full-rate production units, spares and training. This production contract award followed a Sept. 2020 OTA contract award from the USMC to KONGSBERG for test articles and activities, which included Design Verification Testing (DVT), after a competitive process.

The KONGSBERG RS6 RWS for MADIS leverages technology and competence drawn from multiple counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) and air defense programs. The system leverages commonality with the family of PROTECTOR RWS delivered and fielded with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps.
