Just a Reminder

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Here, we see Soldiers from the US Army’s 1/158th Long Range Surveillance and Australian 51st Far Queensland Regiment, Norforce and the Pilbara Regiment as a joint Australian/U.S. surveillance unit at Shoalwater Bay Training Area, Queensland, Australia, during Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011.

Since it looks like PEO Soldier programs are on the chopping block, we thought this photo would be a great reminder to all as to why there is a Army Camouflage Improvement Effort. All we see these days are photos out of Afghanistan with Soldiers sporting the effective OCP. Don’t forget, it’s a big world out there and in most of it, UCP is still the uniform of the day.

Stay the course. Select and field effective camouflage for our troops.

Spec4ce Series 2 Has Arrived

Tuesday, July 26th, 2011

While it’s been a long time coming, Hyperstealth Biotechnology Corp has just announced the arrival of their new Series 2 Spec4ce patterned clothing.

Urban Light on the Left and Woodland on the Right

Pre-orders will begin to ship Wednesday July 27 with all pre-orders expected to be shipped by next Friday, August 5. Once the pre-orders are shipped out and they’ve been able to deal with any size issues, they’ll open the site for sales for a limited time in late August to early September.

There are actually 17 patterns in Series 2 but two cannot be shown here. According to a statement from Guy Cramer of Hyperstealth, “The 17 color schemes are the most ever done for a commercial order or even a country order (that we are aware of), add the three other patterns we didn’t run from S1 (Urban, Tropical and Forest [Forest was licensed to Afghanistan]) and the Sierra pattern for the ANCOP and that puts the total Spec4ce color schemes that have gone into production at 21.”

Here you can see the pocket layout for their uniforms. Every Jacket has one of their Patented Passive Negative Ion Generators embedded in the collar. Additionally, every Ball Cap has the generator embedded into the underside of the brim of the cap. While I remain skeptical about Negative Ion Generators, a few people I trust are convinced. To learn more, check this out: www.hyperstealth.com/beckett/index.html

I do wish Hyperstealth had dispensed with the button on the top of the ballcaps and replaced it with Velcro. At this point, that is the industry standard for a “tactical” cap.

Keep your eye on their website for more info on open sales of the Spec4ce patterns.

More on New Dutch Camo

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

We recently posted a photo of the new Dutch camouflage pattern. Now, our friends at LEAFGEARhave posted several photos of the new proposed barracks dress in the woodland pattern on their Facebook wall. While not definitive, it gives you an idea of what it will look like out in the wild. Offered by COBBS Industries, the garments are manufactured by NFM who used the design of their Combat Jacket from the GARM line. We are HUGE fans of the NFM stuff, some of which will be brought into the US this fall by FirstSpear. Add in fabric provided by TenCate and you have to consider how exciting it is to see so many European companies working together to make this happen.

New Dutch Camo and Uniform?

Tuesday, July 12th, 2011

According to several internet postings, the accompanying pictures is reportedly of a new camouflage pattern and uniform for the Dutch Army.

Unveiled at a recent Army shooting competition, the garrison and field variants are reportedly to see fielding beginning in 2014 as an extension of the Soldier Modernization Program (in Dutch, VOSS for the English Improved Operational Soldier System). It is anticipated that this variant, intended for woodland and urban environments, will not see any further alteration. The pattern is of the so-called fractal design, which uses patterns within patterns. Additionally, there is an arid pattern under development. As you can see, the Soldiers are in front of a TenCate sign. According to reporting, the uniforms are made from TenCate’s Defender-M fabric, which is the same fabric story as the Army’s FR ACU and USMC’s FROG.

Indian Army Introduces New Thermal Shelters

Friday, July 8th, 2011

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed thermally regulated shelters for Soldiers serving in the Himalayas.

According to a report in Rediff News:

these shelters are equipped with integrated temperature regulators, bio-digestors and air-monitoring systems. Modular in design, the shelter has all the facilities like electrical, plumbing, water supply and sewage disposal. Kerosene gensets and solar power are well integrated within the shelter. They have been designed to withstand seismic activities up to a level of zone 5, wind velocities up to 55 m/sec and sub zero temperatures up to minus 35 degree Celsius.”

Additionally, the tents are equipped with carbon dioxide detectors. They were developed to help Indian Soldiers deal with operating from 9000 to a staggering 20000 feet in the Eastern and Western Himalayas. Since the vast majority of Indian troops come from warm climes close to sea level, DRDO has also developed a “three-stage acclimatization” process to mitigate the effects of altitude sickness.

Check out the Rediff News article to learn about other DRDO initiatives for mountain warfare including the HAPO bag a portable hyperbaric bag.
