Italian Army Rainsuits Use GE Fabrics

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

I kid you not, the company that makes rainsuits for the Italian Army is named Lovers s.r.l. Actually, they make pretty much all of the issue combat clothing for Italian forces, except for SOF and have been since 1982. For rainsuits, they use the GE fabric formerly known as eVent. The contract for rainsuits is now in its fourth year Lovers has already supplied 210,000 sets to the Army and will deliver another 57,600 sets as part of this latest contract.

GE will deliver PTFE for lamination to camouflaged face fabric by Tessitura Majocchi s.r.l. which will then be turned into uniforms by Lovers.

“GE is a leader in innovation and technology. We’re pleased to use our expertise to create dependable, protective garments for the Italian Army supporting Lovers and Majocchi,” said Glenn Crowther, product line leader for performance fabrics at GE.

GE materials are also used in foul weather clothing for the US and Korean militaries.

Malaysia Eyes Bigger Market for M4 Carbine

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

According to a report by Malaysian news agency Bernama, Malaysia has put forth a proposal to cooperatively produce and market the M4 carbine to Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

The M4 is manufactured in Malaysia under a license granted from Colt Defense LLC in 2006-7 by SME Ordnance Sdn Bhd. 14,000 M4s are currently in service with the Malaysian Armed Forces, Special Forces of Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency as well as the Royal Malaysian Police.

SME Ordnance Sdn Bhd (SME) is a National Aerospace & Defence Industries (NADI) subsidiary company. They have been issued a mandate to cooperate with ASEAN countries to produce the Colt M4 carbine assault rifle for a wider user base. SME signed a new contract with Colt in February to facilitate the production of an additional 116,000 carbines over seven years. This must still be approved by the US Congress. In particular, Brunei was singled out as a possible customer for the US issue service weapon.

The initiative to develop the region’s defense industry, referred to as the ASEAN Defence Industries Collaboration (ADIC) was set forth at the recent ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) in Jakarta. One of the most compelling points of the plan to federate the production of the rifles across partner countries is that 85% of the parts will be locally produced. Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi explained “Only the main technology and equipment come from United States. Colt also gave us the right to sell M4 to ASEAN countries. “Asean partners will be given the opportunity to share production. Although M4 will be made in Malaysia, its components will be produced by ASEAN countries.”

Camo Truck

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

This is PA-KO’s brand new MAN prime mover. PA-KO is SPECOPS.pl’s distributor as well as a licensed weapons dealer. As you can see it’s covered in the WARG 5PL camo pattern developed especially for this vehicle by an Australian company, ROGGENWOLF.

The pattern is individually developed for each vehicle and takes into account the vehicle size and the distance at which the camo effect is to be achieved. In this way you can “program” the pattern to suit specific needs.

The paintwork on the truck was applied with a glossy finish for practical reasons, as this is a commercial vehicle and will be traveling all across Europe. However, in the development are military vehicles, including tanks, and they will have a matte finish and will undergo field trials. Consider, this MAN truck a technology demonstrator.

ANZAC Day

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Each April 25th some of our closest allies; Australia and New Zealand, commemorate the service and sacrifice of their service members. The day begins with a dawn service and there are several other events throughout the day including parades.

It’s bigger than Veteran’s Day here with more participation. It’s what Veteran’s Day was probably like after the War to End All Wars and ANZAC does have it’s roots in the memory of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps troops who served the empire in World War One. While April 25th might seem an odd date, it is actually the anniversary of the first major battle fought by ANZAC forces; the battle of Gallipoli in what is now Turkey.

Please join us in honoring not only their fallen, but also the fact that they are on our team. So take a moment and have an ANZAC biscuit on us.

Thank you Australia and New Zealand for everything you do in the Coalition.

Agilite and Source Team Up to Produce New Tactical Hydration System

Monday, April 25th, 2011

Israeli firms Agilite and Source Vagabond Systems Ltd makers of Source hydration systems have teamed up to produce a new tactical hydration system. It is compatible with Agilite’s The new Source Diamond is a super-low profile hydration system featuring a contoured design allowing it to sit flatter on the wearer’s back than other systems.

The Agilite-Source joint project involves a new version of the Diamond that is compatible with Agilite’s Modular Assault Suspension System (M.A.S.S.) load bearing system so that the Diamond can be worn independently of the Agilite Modular Assault Pack that is included with every Agilite Vest like the one above.

“With Agilite gear being used more and more by US and other forces in Afghanistan, it is important that we have the perfect integrative hydration system that suits our high-speed, no-bulk style,” said Dror Lefler, Agilite’s Chief Designer; “Our assault pack already works with hydration systems but we wanted an alternative for when the assault pack is detached. Many soldiers prefer our M.A.S.S. (Modular Attachment Suspension System) over M.O.L.L.E or other systems as, using less material and much less webbing, it is much lighter.”

“We are pleased to be working with Agilite on this project, they are known for their innovative high-speed tactical designs and the inclusion of a high-speed system like the Diamond into their load-bearing system is a logical progression.” Said Meni Keinan, Head of military design at Source.

Look for exclusive photos of this new system here soon.
