G-Shock Mudman

The other day a reader asked about a G-Shock we had written about. It got us to thinking about watches so we thought we’d tell you about this one. It’s become fairly popular with certain elements of the military. The Casio G9000MS-1 or G-Shock Mudman is a military-inspired watch that combines features from the popular ORIGIN and MASTER OF G line-ups.

It has a molded back cover and variable durometer urethane covered bezel and buttons to prevent foreign particles, such as mud, sand, or oil from entering the watch or accumulating between the back case and wearerâ€™s wrist. The Mudman features 200M water resistance, world time, dual auto EL backlight with afterglow, twin stopwatches, and count down timer.

BushHawk Shoulder Mount

Turn your camera into a weapon. Think of the BushHawk Shoulder Mount as a buttstock for your camera that really steadies your shot. While this is more of a figurative sense, a photograph can be very powerful, so why not get it right. According to the user who recommended the BushHawk to me, it is great for use with large lenses and for focusing on the action. It is also lightweight and can be put into action more quickly than a tripod. The downside? It looks like a rifle so be careful.

Echo Niner Camera Strap

We just found out about Echo Niner and their Camera Strap. It was designed by a professional photographer and incorporates a couple of interesting features. For example, the strap is lined with a non-slip material to keep it in place even when moving. Additionally, the single point of adjustment allows the photographer to quickly configure the strap to best suit conditions. The strap can even be set up as a hand strap.

Casio G-Shock X-Large Military Play Set Limited Edition Watch

With its mix of olive drab, coyote and khaki coloring, the G-Shock Military Play Set LE Watch looks very much like a tactical watch, and its ruggedness and large volume of features help to further this claim. The Military Play G-Shock is shock resistant, water resistant up to 200M, features a high-intensity LED and a large digital display area. Its powered by a CR2025 battery with an approximate life of 7 years. It can be programed to display up to four different cities’ times, from a list of 48 cities spanning 31 time zones, with city code display and full DST support. Additionally, this watch also features 5 independent alarms, a stopwatch that measures down to 1/100th of a second, a countdown timer that measures down to 1/10th of a second, and a full auto calender (pre-programmed until the year 2099). Of course, it can also display local time in either a 12 or 24 hour format that is accurate to within +/- 15 seconds per month.

And before you ask, yes. You also get the cool G-Shock action figure as part of the package.

Garmin K9 Tracker

The Astro 320 from Garmin International was designed as a GPS-enabled tracking system for sporting dogs. However, military and LE K9 personnel might find the gears in their heads start to move once they take a look at it. Others may come up with some other interesting uses as well.

Compatible with Garminâ€™s DC 20, DC 30, and DCâ„¢ 40 dog tracking collars the new Astro 320 GPS receiver can up to ten dogs at once across up to nine miles in flat, unobstructed terrain with the optional extended range antenna. The waterproof handheld has a 3-axis electronic compass allowing you to accurately view the dogâ€™s position when holding the Astro 320 at any angle, an internal vibration motor that supports silent alerts in addition to audible tones, and a keypad lock.

It features a vibrant 2.6â€ 65k color sunlight-readable display and built-in shaded relief world wide basemap that depicts basic geographical features. Additional mapping detail can be added by using the internal memory or a microSD card slot for optional products such as the subscription-based BirdsEyeâ„¢ Satellite Imagery or topographic maps.

Fire Steel, Blanket Pin, and Awl (in-One)

The Fire Steel, Blanket Pin, and Awl is a multi use product offered by Dave Canterbury of “Dual Survival” fame and Owner of the Pathfinder School, LLC. Inspired by a conversation with Rob Simpson of the Canteen Shop, the concept was combine a blanket pin with a fire steel. In fact, you may have seen this in use on “Dual Survival” when Dave’s partner Cody Lundin wraps himself in a buffalo cape (episode: Frozen Plains).

It is offered in two sizes, naturally referred to as Small and Large. The smaller one can be used as a belt buckle so you can always have it on you. However, it do so it is recommended that you slightly modify it by shortening the pin.

Naturally, it’s primary function is as a fire steel. But, this device allows you to take a wool (or in a pinch other type) blanket and use it as a cloak, clasping it in front. Finally, it can be used as an awl, with the loop of the steel making an excellent handle.

While there’s no catchy name for this product, I’ll call it the “Awl-in-One.”

CRKT INox Case For iPhone 4

Columbia River Knife & Tool is offering their own take on the iPhone case. Available only for the iPhone 4, the INox Case, true to its namesake, is constructed from stainless steel. It features black Delrin posts, a rubber bumper, and fits all size iPhone 4s. Color wise, the INox comes in silver, white, black, gold, camo and rainbow finishes. According to CRKT reps at its debut during BLADE show, it should be available now through authorized retailers.

Watershed Grid iPad Bag Now in MultiCam

We showed you Watershed’s waterproof Grid iPad Bag right before Christmas last year. Designed to let you use the iPad while it’s still in the bag, its Zipdry seal has been rated for submersion up to 300 feet. There is an additional flap that will protect your device from the sun’s rays. At SOFIC they had a version in MultiCam which joins the standard stock colors of Black, Blue, Clear, Alpha Green, Red, and Yellow.
