Velocity Systems and Mayflower Research & Consulting Combine Forces

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Remember the old Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup commercials, “Two Great Tastes That Taste Great Together”? Well, that’s exactly what has happened here. They’ve been working together for some time and finally decided to make it official.

Velocity Systems has acquired a minority share of Mayflower Research & Consulting, LLC. This acquisition will strengthen their ability to bring high-quality tactical gear to their extremely valued customers. Velocity Systems and Mayflower R&C have had a long-term friendship and a strong professional relationship which has led Velocity Systems to manufacture Mayflower products for the past several years and for them to collaboratively develop products together. The Velocity Systems patent pending SwiftClip® system, which is available on all Velocity and Mayflower vests, allows all of their auxiliary equipment to fit on all platforms, armor vests and plate carriers.

The synergy achieved by this acquisition will result in cutting edge highly-compatible products for the Warfighter. The compatibility and scalability of their products is second to none. Many of their valued customers are already utilizing this compatibility and their goal is to bring you much more of this in the near future. If you look at what they have already achieved together, just imagine what lay ahead. In fact, look for several new product releases from both Velocity Systems and Mayflower in the near future.

HP White Opens New Environmental Test Facility for Personal and Vehicular Armor

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

HP White Labs, world renown for ballistic testing excellent announced yesterday the opening of Cooper Main, a new Environmental Test Facility for personal and vehicular armor. The facility is named in honor of the company’s longest standing employee, Lois Cooper, who has been employed by HP White Laboratory for 53 years. Over her tenure, Cooper has held a variety of positions throughout the organization, ranging from ballistics technician to controller. Lois Cooper joined HP White Laboratory in 1958, following graduation from North Harford High School. During 53 years of service with HP White, Cooper has been a QC manager, ballistics technician, statistician, inventory manager, FSO, and most recently, company controller. Cooper will retire from HP White in the summer of 2011.

“Lois Cooper’s strength and longevity are hallmarks that underscore the H.P. White brand,” said Mike Parker, president, H.P. White Laboratory. “Over five decades Cooper demonstrated uncommon loyalty and adaptability to best serve customers’ needs and the lab’s.”

The new laboratory houses four Environmental Conditioning Chambers capable of achieving temperature ranges from minus 75 degrees C to 150 degrees C, and humidity ranges from 10% to 98% for hard and soft armor samples up to 39.4”x35.5”x39.4”. What’s more, the new facility provides a 575-square-foot sample storage room maintained at between 25-degrees C and 20%-50% humidity for compliant storage of samples awaiting testing.

With the addition of Cooper Main, HP White now provides vehicular and personal armor manufacturers with one-stop environmental conditioning and ballistics resistance testing required by multiple standards and regulations, including National Institute of Justice (NIJ), MIL STDs, UL 752, STANAG, military hard and soft body armor standards, and a host of other domestic and foreign protocols that require environmental conditioning. Manufacturers and suppliers can validate armor packages for research and development, certification, and acceptance testing. For hard and soft armor manufacturers whose armor must pass environmental conditioning requirements, Cooper Main represents significant cost and time efficiencies.

Defense Alliance Helps Small Businesses Tap into Military-Industrial Market

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

According to a recent article published by Pioneer Press’s TwinCities.com, the St Paul-based Defense Alliance “has a contract with the U.S. Small Business Association to act as a coach for small, innovative businesses in the fields of energy conservation and power supply that want to approach the massive military-industrial complex.”

They provide expertise on how to navigate the jargon as well as the bureaucracy surrounding doing business with the Government. It seems, that in the tactical market, businesses are often started by former military personnel who at least have a basic understanding of how the Government does business even if the subtleties are missed. On the other hand, just as many new companies are started by those with zero ties to the military. In fact, it can be a strength, as they don’t have any preconceived notions on how equipment is “supposed to work or look.”

Additionally, the military continually requires new technologies to stay at the cutting edge and maintain an advantage over any adversary. One of the latest thrusts has been in the area of energy conservation and the use of alternative energy sources. This is exactly the types of capabilities that Defense Alliance works with.

Sometimes these energy conservation technologies cross into the Soldier Technology world. For example, the TwinCities.com article talks about a new tent fabric from Entropy Solutions.

Entropy Solutions, a Plymouth company, is experimenting with a tent material that could cut the use of generators that provide heating and cooling for tents used in war zones.

The Army hates diesel generators because their noise gives away their position and fuel is expensive — and dangerous — to transport into a theater of war, Entropy CEO Eric Lindquist said.

Entropy makes “phase change” materials — materials that absorb and store energy, only to release it later. That may sound like science fiction, but water is the perfect example of a phase change material — it stores thermal energy as it warms up and releases it as it cools.

Entropy’s tent material could store solar heat during the day and release it at night as the air temperature drops, he said. If the climate were right, no generators would be needed.

Hopefully, we will continue to see such technologies integrated into our warfighting capability.

Camo Truck

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

This is PA-KO’s brand new MAN prime mover. PA-KO is SPECOPS.pl’s distributor as well as a licensed weapons dealer. As you can see it’s covered in the WARG 5PL camo pattern developed especially for this vehicle by an Australian company, ROGGENWOLF.

The pattern is individually developed for each vehicle and takes into account the vehicle size and the distance at which the camo effect is to be achieved. In this way you can “program” the pattern to suit specific needs.

The paintwork on the truck was applied with a glossy finish for practical reasons, as this is a commercial vehicle and will be traveling all across Europe. However, in the development are military vehicles, including tanks, and they will have a matte finish and will undergo field trials. Consider, this MAN truck a technology demonstrator.

Glock to Donate $100,000 to SOWF

Tuesday, May 10th, 2011

GLOCK, Inc will make a $100,000 donation to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) during the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) held in Tampa, FL, this coming week, May 17-19. GLOCK, Inc Vice President Josh Dorsey will make the presentation to SOWF in the GLOCK exhibition booth (#404) on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 3:00 pm.

During the past six years, GLOCK will have donated $600,000 to SOWF, a non-profit organization providing college scholarships to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps special operations personnel killed in combat or training.

“GLOCK is proud to contribute to organizations such as SOWF, which play such a vital role in providing aide to the families of America’s fallen heroes,” said GLOCK Vice President Josh Dorsey. “GLOCK, Inc. has a long-standing tradition of supporting those that put themselves in harm’s way.”

Accepting the donation on behalf of SOWF will be Col John T. Carney Jr (USAF, Ret), the founding father of Air Force Special Tactics and current President of SOWF; Edie Rosenthal, Executive Director of SOWF, and former recipient of the SOWF Scholarship, Melinda Petrignani.

“GLOCK’s continued support to SOWF over the past six years demonstrates their commitment to supporting the families of wounded and fallen special operations personnel,” said Col John T. Carney Jr., SOWF President and CEO. “With more than 500 children in our program who have yet to reach college age, this gift helps us assure those widows or widowers that the foundation will be around when that young girl or boy reaches college age.”

Melinda is one of more than 800 children of fallen special operations personnel to whom SOWF has provided aide. Her father, Army Ranger PFC Michael Ruddess, was killed in a training accident in 1986 when she was only eight months old. Through the financial assistance from SOWF, Melinda graduated from DePaul University in 2008 with a degree in Business Administration. In September 2010, Melinda joined SOWF where she works with families and students as a Financial Aid Counselor.

GLOCK, Inc donates more than $500,000 each year to causes that benefit those who put themselves in harm’s way to defend the freedom that Americans enjoy.
