Kill Cliff Now Available at GNC

Friday, September 7th, 2012

Make no mistake, Kill Cliff is awesome, and now, it’s available at GNC. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a carbonated recovery drink that has an orange flavor. This isn’t an energy drink that will get you going like a freight train but then drop you like a cheating girlfriend a few hours later. Kill Cliff tastes great and each 12-ounce can of Kill Cliff contains only 25mg of caffeine, 15 calories and no sugar. What further differentiates the product is the combination of electrolytes and a proprietary mix of recovery supporting ingredients including an enzyme blend, green tea extract, ginger root, and milk thistle among other functional nutrients.

It’s now available through GNC stores as well as online for those of you that aren’t near a tactical store carrying this tasty beverage. These include GSS Gear in Va Beach and Grey Group in Fayetteville.

New Staff Isn’t The Only Thing Happening at Magpul Dynamics

Thursday, September 6th, 2012

Over the past months Magpul Dynamics has added new personnel including Director Duane Liptak Jr and Jon Canipe to join their excellent existing staff. But, that’s not all they have going on. In addition to an updated curriculum, they are also working to close out the popular “Art of” series.

According to the Magpul Dynamics Facebook page, “We will most likely release all remaining material from the “Art of” series in a boxed set/update. That will clear out the vaults and put a close to that chapter of Magpul Training. If you want more of what this series is/was, then this will be everything that hasn’t seen the light of day. What you see in the “Art of” is not what we are currently doing, but that isn’t to say that there isn’t material of value in the “Art of”– we are, however, doing this to be able to move forward.

The next material from us will most likely not be in DVD format…the “Art of” changed what a training DVD was, and the next step will be more revolutionary than evolutionary as well. The next step is in the works currently.”

In the meantime, I’d suggest that you look into some hands on training with Magpul Dynamics.

Jon Canipe Joins Magpul Dynamics as Director of Carbine Operations

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Magpul Dynamics isn’t the same company that it was even a year ago. They continue to adapt to advances in training methodology, weapon employment and equipment development. Today, as part of that continued improvement process, they officially announced that Jon Canipe has come on board as the Director of Carbine Operations, “in order to support the training schedule as well as support the development and testing efforts.” Canipe should be no stranger to readers of SSD. His weekly “Canipe Correspondence” series leverages his 12 years of military experience serving in US Army Special Forces. He will now offer his combat experience and time as an instructor at USAJFKSWCS to students of Magpul Dynamics. Congrats to Jon and Magpul Dynamics!

Crye Precision Featured in Monocle

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

Crye Precision and their invention, MultiCam, are featured in the article “The Art of Getting Lost” in issue 56 of the magazine Monocle.

At Monocle’s website is a fantastic video featuring Caleb Crye discussing what motivates his workforce and unveils a few lesser known projects like a lightweight dirt bike and new design concepts for diving equipment. Additionally, Gregg Thompson weighs in on one of my favorite causes, American manufacturing.

The magazine is worth picking up as it’s packed with facts and is very well laid out. I got mine at Barnes & Noble.

SOTech Shines Light on Benefits of Employing Veterans

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

Green Vets LA / VIPER Program makes the front page of the Los Angeles Times as the vote goes to Sacramento. The Green Vets LA Element of VIPER (Veterans Industry Program for Employment Reintegration) has found itself bridging the right and the left wings of California politics. Jim Cragg and SOTech staff members supporting GVLA have made the rounds of California Senate and Assembly offices to illuminate the veterans issues, job creation, and economic impact of the proposed single use plastic bag ban in California. Previously the ban was seen only as an environmental issue until Cragg raised the banner of jobs for vets.

Having experienced firsthand the protection of American sewing jobs under the Berry Act in Defense Contracting, Cragg brought to light the benefits of legislation that protects and encourages American design and manufacturing. Not only do veterans of the GVLA program benefit from sewing and assembly jobs created here, but the American sewing industry as a whole will see gains, and this comes at an important time as Defense sewing projects begin to dwindle with an end to American troop deployments on the horizon. Beyond the political and industrial implications of the issue, the LA Times article captured the human side of the issue with some gut-wrenching interviews of formerly homeless Veterans in the VIPER program.

Über Group Now Repping NEMO Equipment in Southeastern US

Wednesday, August 29th, 2012

There’s a reason Über Group is our favorite rep group (yes, they are the only rep group we know, but they’re our favorite all the same) and that reason is that they represent some of the best outdoor (and tactical crossover) products in the industry. Now, they’ve added NEMO Equipment to their offerings. NEMO is well known for their innovative shelters and keep systems.

Über Group’s territory is the South Eastern US for most companies they represent but they have some additional territorial responsibilities for certain lines.
