Panacis raises $1.8M for Soldier Battery Pack

Saturday, April 27th, 2013

Ottawa-based Panacis Inc. is expanding its local presence to go full-steam ahead with commercialization of its new military battery system following financial contributions from investors and taxpayers.

“The FedDev Ontario investment supports engineering and marketing development activities, which are both essential to the successful launch of the Soldier Sharepack product into international markets,” stated Panacis CEO Janet Mason.

After raising a funding round of $1.2 million from members of the Capital Angel Network, Panacis attracted $613,457 from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, known as FedDev Ontario, through its program that matches 50 per cent of investor contributions.

The funding will be used to fund the Soldier Sharepack, a wearable energy storage system that garners additional battery power from a user’s movement and renewable sources such as solar.

Panacis also plans to hire up to 15 additional full-time employees in Ottawa to scale up its manufacturing capabilities, according to the release.

TAC-CHALLENGE 2014

Wednesday, April 24th, 2013

In early February of this year three long distance shooting enthusiasts came up with the notion to create an event called TAC-CHALLENGE, René Deveault of X-Reload, Sniper Mario Dutil Quebec and Steve St. Louis Web of Webtechgear.

Collectively, the group conceived a long distance shooting event that combined some friendly competition with an opportunity to network with others who share the same passion. This type of an event is not common In the province of Quebec (Canada) like in the United States. After several meetings to develop the concept, the trio decided to expand the team given the scale they wanted to give the event. It was after some time that René Ménard and Mario Fortier joined the team to lend a hand and strengthen the collective.

The event will be held in spring 2014, but why promote a year ahead?

The organizers want to offer to the participants and visitors an adventure they will not forget. All modules for shooting will be handmade and custom, special facilities will be constructed in order to ensure that the course is relevant, challenging and stays on schedule. In May of next year, they will host the first pre-event to test and evaluate everything that is TAC-CHALLENGE 2014.

On the menu of TAC-CHALLENGE include such skills of unknown distance shooting, shooting form unorthodox positions as well as from barricades as well individual and team events. But be sure that, in the meantime, some surprises will be added to the mix as well.

The patch “TAC-CHALLENGE – Veni Vidi Vici” (seen above) was created to raise funds to help TAC-Challenge become a reality in the spring of 2014 in Quebec. The patch is currently in production, we’ll keep you posted when it becomes available for sale.

A Video For The Irish Garda ERU Experts

Friday, April 19th, 2013

The other day we shared a photo from the Irish Sun depicting a member wearing Arc’teryx LEAF Talos combat clothing in Wolf Grey. Some readers didn’t believe that the photo was of a Garda member since he wasn’t wearing Black. Maybe this video will help clear things up?

Here is the description:
Teams from the Irish Garda Emergency Response Unit (ERU) put on a show of strength in a large international counter-terrorism exercise in Dublin City, Ireland one day after the devastating terrorist bomb attacks in Boston City, United States.

Officers from Ireland’s elite counter-terrorist Police task force, the Garda ERU, hosted a European Union (EU) Coordinated Anti-Terror Exercise as part of Europe’s ‘ATLAS’ law enforcement network at an abandoned power generating site in Dublin. The exercise involved elements from land, sea and air, all designed to replicate a response to an extensive terror attack, either domestic or foreign.

Gardai have also confirmed that specially-trained Police men and women will undertake sea patrols during the 39th G8 Summit in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland (United Kingdom) this summer – June 2013 – to prevent against any threats to the worldwide governmental forum. The Guards will be working alongside members from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), UK Intelligence Agencies, such as MI5 and MI6, and the British Military.

Wait, What?
