Parashears and Kiku XR folding knife now available
9 March 2020

Lynnwood, WA – With 2020 underway, Studies and Observations Group releases two new products: Kiku XR folding knife and ParaShears multi-tool.

For outdoor users, Kiku XR is a rugged folding knife with a powerful styling that harkens to its Japanese DNA, for situations that require a quick-opening, super sharp knife. Made in collaboration with famed Japanese knifemaker Kiku Matsuda, it makes a subtle statement of strength wherever it’s carried. The high-utility blade cuts under virtually every condition, and the linen Micarta handle provides for a sure, secure grip. The ultra-strong XR locking mechanism, able to withstand up to 1,500 pounds of force, self-adjusts over the lifespan of the knife and the CTS-XHP steel blade offers a high degree of corrosion resistance as well as excellent edge retention.

Kiku XR retails for $189.95 and is available now from Sportsman’s Warehouse, Academy, Blade HQ, and will be available soon from Bass Pro. Kiku XR has also been picked up for international distribution into China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea and the UK.

For professional users, ParaShears is a focused multi-tool designed for first responders and emergency personnel who require a reliable tool under the most demanding of rescue conditions. ParaShears come complete with a mission-specific toolset that was requested by first responders, featuring 12 components, including robust shears, strap cutter, glass breaker, oxygen wrench and tweezers. Leveraging SOG’s proprietary Compound Leverage technology, ParaShears is able to cut through material easier and quicker than equivalent shears.

Measuring at 6.3 inches, and weighing in at 4.8 ounces, ParaShears is light and compact enough to wear on your daily kit in their nylon sheath. Made from autoclave compatible materials, there are two color options: black oxide with black handles, or polished stainless with red handles.

ParaShears retails for $74.95 and is available now from Sportsman’s Warehouse, Academy, West Marine and Blade HQ, and will be available soon from Bass Pro and Dick’s Sporting Goods. ParaShears has also been picked up for international distribution into China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Korea and the UK.

GiantMouse Knives Introduces the ACE Biblio – Titanium Blue

Wednesday, February 19th, 2020

Corte Madera, California, February 19, 2020 – Since its debut in 2018, the GiantMouse ACE Biblio has been extremely well received by knife enthusiasts worldwide. Given the tremendous success of the Biblio in canvas micarta, G10, and stonewashed titanium, GiantMouse is now pleased to offer this great little cutter in titanium anodized a beautiful blue.

The Biblio is an all-around EDC folder that looks good and performs even better, in the woods or in the city. A knife for both “Dives and Dance Halls” so to speak. The flat titanium scales on this model provide for a slimmer profile, allowing the knife to ride almost unnoticed in the pocket.

When using the Biblio you’ll realize how well it performs. Again, the ergonomics are spot on, and the nicely thin ground blade makes this a real slicer. By choosing the flat saber grind on this knife, they got a strong blade with a fine cutting edge that you’ll enjoy using. The use of Böhler M390 for blade steel makes the Biblio an exceptional cutting tool that will serve you well for years to come.

SHOT Show 20 – The Survival Striker from Winkler Knives

Tuesday, January 28th, 2020

I was sorry to hear that ABS Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler faced a series of dire medical conditions last summer and fall. Fortunately, he has recovered and introduced The Survival Striker, available now off pre-order.

It’s a hollow handled knife, similar to the collaboration he did with LAW Tactical a few years back.

One of the cool things he did was show the stages of development from drawing to model, to prototype, to final product.

Winkler uses 80Crv2 steel in his designs.

Modern, Technical Iteration of the Classic Barlow Pattern

This Wednesday, January 29th, 2020 Terrain 365™ launches their Otter Slip Joint pocket knife. A technical iteration of the classic Barlow knife pattern that is equally at home in the water or on land, just like its animal namesake. Featuring their rustproof, edge holding Terravantium™ blade, titanium liners, unique vintage type (titanium) lanyard bail, dive watch grade 316 SS hardware, bronze bushings, and 5 handle options. The Otter Slip Joint is a highly useful, practical, and resilient daily performer. A refined, capable EDC folder that requires very little maintenance, and a blade that is free from rust and corrosion for life.

The Otter Slip Joint will be available in full titanium handles, carbon fiber scales, and 3 options in G10; Black, Marine Gray (a unique color inspired by a factory color scheme for vintage Land Rovers), and the OD Green G10 variant as an exclusive to Prometheus Design Werx.

The team at Terrain 365 states,

“The Barlow pattern is one of the most enduring classic slip joint models ever created. Its appeal is in its simplicity, pragmatism, and usability. We looked to this great classic to create our own modern version. One of the unique carryovers is the lanyard bail where a leather wrist thong or knotted lanyard can be attached. The Otter Slip Joint is an all around pocket knife for everyday carry, updated with technical, modern materials, precision machined parts, and a legacy design distilled down to its core characteristics that is utterly relevant today as it was when first introduced in 1670. The dual nail nick grooves makes this slippie truly ambidextrous and can also can be opened by pinching. The Otter is well suited for EDC, the trail, and because of the slip joint construction with its 3” blade can be carried without hassle in many EU countries.”

Terrain 365™ launches the Otter Slip Joint on their website Wednesday, January 29th, 2020.
