SOTech Debuts Road Warrior Bag at SHOT Show

Saturday, January 12th, 2013

SOTech’s Jim Cragg showed me the Road Warrior at last month’s SOMA conference in Tampa. He developed the bag because he’s always on the road and was looking for a bag that he could keep packed with the all of the essentials between trips. He described it as being “For the traveler who is living from trip to trip.”

Road-Warrior

It has pockets for passport/tickets and a travel wallet, power strip and electronics chargers, first aid and road survival items and hygiene items. External Velcro for patches, clear slot for business cards and ID, and MOLLE/PALS for shock cording on a travel towel or attaching pouches for cameras or other chosen travel items. This bag can sit in a sock drawer waiting for the next trip. Just grab the bag with some clean clothes, throw them into a day pack and you are on the road (or you are sitting in the truck waiting for your less organized buddies searching for their travel toothbrush and passport). Its also great when you have to check out of hotels and all of your gear has a designated pocket for easy ID of missing items. Check out this SOTECH innovation out at booth 20113 at SHOT.

LAPD SIS Pioneers Mobile Apprehension and Develops New Armor System with SOTech

Friday, January 11th, 2013

LAPD’s SIS (Special Investigation Section) is legendary for apprehending the most dangerous felons on their city’s streets. Now, their new equipment package developed with SOTech is available for other agencies. Below is what SOTech has to say about this new armor and pouch system.

cobra-sis-ad-new

SOTech’s design staff are honored to develop an armor carrier for a progressive approach to law enforcement suspect apprehension being pioneered and perfected by LAPD’s renowned Special Investigation Section- SIS. The soft and hard armor carrier and specified pouch and go bags are part of a system designed to allow a plain clothes officer in mobile surveillance mode to rapidly don his/her tactical gear, dismount the vehicle and chase down and apprehend the suspected criminal. The game changer here is that the entire ensemble is designed around mobility. The system is not only designed for rapid donning in the tight confines of a surveillance vehicle, but the vest is designed for mobility and dexterity during confrontations. The days of the raid jacket are over as the modern urban environment requires up to ceramic plate rifle round protection. Conventional law enforcement procedures saw a detective in a jacket approach a suspect, now replaced by a bulky protective vest. The only other option was a heavily armored and encumbered SWAT team that could apprehend an armed suspect after that suspect was cornered in a static location where SWAT could set up a perimeter. SIS developed and perfected tactics to break out of that box, tracking the suspect and apprehending him or her on the move. SOTech designers spent months working with members of the elite LAPD unit, customizing the rigs around their deployment of weapons, auto glass breachers, distraction devices, bandoleers and other tools in well-choreographed foot and vehicle take downs. For the past 15 years we at SOTech have been lucky to be in Los Angeles working with LAPD SIS. They have a well-deserved world-wide reputation for surveillance and tactics. And it’s been an amazing experience working with them as they identified such a significant tactical gap, developed radical-thinking tactics, and then perfected them to the standard of a major metropolitan department such as LAPD. Numerous Los Angeles area departments are already looking at adapting these TTPs, and we expect to see detective bureaus and narcotics divisions world-wide adapt to the program. As professionals, SOTech won’t discuss the intricacies of the tactics, but we will assist law enforcement professionals who have equipment/tactical inquires coordinate with the POC at LAPD SIS.

The SIS developers will be on hand at SHOT Show and will be periodically available at the SOTECH booth #20113 to discuss their system and tactics with interested law enforcement professionals. Please email Jim@SpecOpsTech.com to coordinate a meeting time during SHOT.

High Ground and Phokus Research Release New Sling At SHOT Show

Thursday, January 10th, 2013

Ring Sling

High Ground and Phokus Research have come together to solve the two biggest issues that surround your weapon sling.
1) There is not a 2 point sling on the market that allows for ambidextrous firing.
2) There is not a single point sling on the market that allows for weapon retention while going hands on or climbing.

The new Ring Sling allows for all the benefits of a single point sling (weapon manipulation, speed, and ambidextrous use) along with the desired weapon retention associated with a two point. So throw away that tennis ball catch, and give your little brother that 2 point sling you bought because it WAS the best thing on the market. Check out High Ground at SHOT Show in booth #15065 to get your hands on one.

DS Tactical to Offer Velocity Systems and Mayflower Lines in Kryptek Patterns This Month

Wednesday, January 9th, 2013

Velocity Systems and Mayflower have leaked a photo or two of their current and future products in the Kryptek family of patterns which are currently finalists in the US Army’s Camouflage Improvement Effort. They had planned on debuting everything at SHOT Show and following the normal flow of things. Take orders at SHOT and then release product based on those orders in mid-spring. But now, we don’t have to wait. Velocity Systems FNG David Walsh related to SSD, “We planned to launch the sale of our existing product line (in Kryptek) at the upcoming SHOT show. DS Tactical was ready to invest immediately and who are we to argue?”

VS in Kryptek

What happened to speed things up is that Canada’s DS Tactical has already placed an order that includes Mayflower LPAAC’s, APC’s, several pouches and each of the Chest rig styles in the Kryptek Highlander, Mandrake and Typhon patterns. “Working direct with end users, we believe that Kryptek offers the best range of use in every environment. Velocity/Mayflower was the easy choice when it came to providing innovative products because of their high quality and knowledge of end user needs,“ said DS Tactical’s Colin Noppers.

This stocking order means that these patterns of all Plate Carriers and Chest Rigs from Velocity and Mayflower will be available later this month. Nomad will be available in March. While pricing isn’t completely settled, they should remain in line with those of existing printed products from Velocity and Mayflower. In addition to the current line, both brands will be introducing new products at next week’s SHOT Show.

Blue Force Gear Helium Whisper Pouches Awarded NSNs

Monday, January 7th, 2013

Blue Force Gear has just announced that several of their Helium Whisper pouches have been issued National Stock Numbers. This is a watershed event as it signifies an official adoption of a next generation of load carrying systems by DoD that will begin to replace legacy MOLLE systems. It also means that aside from the adoption of Helium Whisper by USSOCOM elements, other organizations will be able to leverage this lightweight technology to improve their load carriage systems. This is some very big news.

Here is their press release:

Blue Force Gear announced today that seven of their Helium Whisper backed pouches received National Stock Numbers (NSNs). These Patent pending Helium Whisper pouches fulfill an immediate SOCOM Load Carriage System Contract and can be purchased by government customers with access to DLA.

“We’re excited that our lightweight pouches have been chosen to receive NSNs,” said Ashley Burnsed, Blue Force Gear’s CEO. “Our goal is to improve the soldier’s safety and survivability. Having NSNs on these pouches makes it easier for units to procure the lightweight equipment they need to get their jobs done.”

The pouches that received NSNs utilize Blue Force Gear’s Patent pending Helium Whisper technology which reduces weight by up to 60 percent over the pouches previously carried by troops. The U.S. military has identified weight reduction of individual combat equipment as a top priority due to the tremendous impact that loads have on combat survivability and long term orthopedic health. Helium Whisper is combat proven with elite personnel and is available now as a solution for customers seeking better performance.
