SHOT Show 26 – Apex Defense USA RailRunr Military Hip Pack

Monday, February 2nd, 2026

During my meeting with Apex Defense USA they showed me a new waistbag system designed by Tsuga. Originally developed for mountain biking, they showed it to some SF medics who were immediately drawn to the concept. Since then, Apex Defense and Tsuga have been working with the SOF medical community to refine the bags which are now called the RailRunr Military Hip Pack.

What makes RailRunr standout from other waist bags is that you don’t have to twist the entire waist bag around to the front to access the contents. Instead, the bag moves along a track on the padded belt so you can keep the belt snug the entire time. This also reduces chaffing from twisting the entire rig round and round.

This video shows how it works.

Inside is a removable bandolier divider, two internal pockets, and upper elastic loops to keep your kit organized and secure.

Offered in 3l and 5l configurations, the RailRunr is made from Squadron laminate and integrates N52 Neodynium Magnets to keep the bag in place on the belt while in its stored position.

I’d like to point out that although the medics are interested in this bag, it could be used for a wide variety of applications, just like other waist bags.

Colors include Black, Red, Coyote, and MultiCam.

For those interested in ordering, pre-orders are being taken now with the first articles shipping in April. All Bulk orders and Dealer opportunities are available through Apex Defense USA. Contact sales@apexdefenseusa.com.

MSRP pricing is: 3L – $451.43ea | 5L – $481.43ea (Includes Pouch and Belt).

SHOT Show 26 – Shaw Concepts

Monday, February 2nd, 2026

Shaw Concepts is always a fountain of innovation and thy displayed quite a few upcoming products but the one I want to concentrate on is an as-yet-unnamed harness which can be configured as chest rig or plate carrier.

Both modular and scalable in nature, it will accept a bib, panels and dangler at the front. You can also add armor plates by using Shaw Speed Bags. The front plate is attached to the front of the rig via Velcro, is an easy and quick way to scale the protection level.

At the rear, the plate attaches via custom Metal Hardware and T-Stoppers.

The rear is stiffened using Tegris to assist with load carriage and stability.

The Shaw harness also incorporates an S-Lok sleeve cummerbund which is available in 3”, 5”, and a narrow plate carrier height. The patent pending S-Lock uses the same technology as the Usurper belt to set the length of the cummerbund.

The rear of the harness is height adjustable and the shoulder straps are length adjustable. Additionally, the shock cord allows some flex for breathing yet the stiffened spine nears the weight of the load.

There is a metal toggle buckle to attach the shoulder straps to the front panel but these can be replaced with FS Tubes and you can easily add shoulder pads to the shoulder straps.

Assault zip-on panel (no final name) uses UCAS standard zippers for compatibility with other brands.

Likely to launch July 4th along with several other new items.

Vector Heavy Chest Pack

Saturday, January 17th, 2026

Putting my money where my mouth is…

I’m Ben. I’m the Product Development Manager for Fine Group.

I was recently talking to our Managing Director about the products we have developed. I told him we needed to be sure they were up to the standards of robustness required for use in arduous environments before they went anywhere near serious end-users. He agreed and off I went to Malaysia for a fortnight with the Maddog Adventures crew to go and thrash our kit in the jungle. Nothing beats real world feedback, and the jungle is the harshest environment to test kit in.

I’m very proud of the products we make at Fine Group. We feel a personal responsibility to those end-users who will be using what we have made in the most testing of circumstances. If we can’t trust it, it doesn’t go out the door!

The Vector Heavy Chest Pack is a super-robust and versatile piece of expedition equipment. Allowing you to keep key pieces of survival and navigation equipment to hand in a chest mounted pack. Your critical equipment can stay with you even when you pack is off. Ideal for kayaks and canoes, mountain biking, as well as cross-country skiing, or even simply hiking and trekking. The laser cut PALS in the outside, base and inside the two compartments allows you to organise and customise your equipment even more.

Laser Cut Laminate: Made from the same tough laminate fabric as our Vector Tactical products, and with laser cut PALS, the Heavy Chest Pack is incredibly flexible in terms of organisation. With PALS inside, outside, and even on the bottom, you can set this chest pack up for any activity.

Internal Organisation: Both of the compartments feature internal organisation above and beyond the PALS panels, allowing you to find your key equipment without having to dig around.

Water Resistant Zips: YKK Aquaguard Zips prevent water ingress and keep your critical equipment dry. Twin zips on each opening make sure that you have redundancy enabling you to still seal the compartment in the unlikely event a zip slider should fail.

Mesh Harness: A highly breathable and robust harness made from the same military-grade mesh as our Vector Tactical Side Pouches. Contoured to wrap your shoulders for day-long comfort, no matter what your activity. Fully adjustable to fit you regardless of your shape. Held in place by metal G-Hooks for maximum strength and to make taking it on and off a doddle.

Phokus Surgical Ruck (Patent Pending)

The Multi-Mission Medical-Surgical Ruck (M3R-SURG) is a collaboration between Phokus and High Speed Gear, engineered for damage control resuscitation (DCR) and damage control surgery (DCS). Developed to address the demands of advanced care for teams operating in austere, mobile, or forward environments, the system features an external aluminum frame to enhance load carriage. Unlike other solutions on the market, the Surgical Ruck was also designed to store personal sustainment gear (food, water, warming layers), critical for extended operations.

The Surgical Ruck is scalable, agile, and rapidly deployable. It features modular, clear pouches mounted on rigid back panels, enabling teams to configure layouts according to mission requirements. Intended for austere surgical sites, the Surgical Ruck enables the rapid setup of a DCR/DCS capability through internal hanging bags and instrument panels—supporting an efficient transition from movement to advanced care delivery.
