Capewell Aerial Systems’ new Double-Lok Rescue Hook doubles both safety and visibility

Thursday, September 15th, 2016

Meadows of Dan, VA—September 12, 2016 Capewell Aerial Systems (CAS), a world leader in aviation safety products and a top-tier manufacturer of helicopter rescue hooks has introduced a fail-safe locking rescue hook. The Double-Lok Hook is designed to prevent accidental opening which can lead to “rollouts” resulting in load loss. In addition, CAS’ Double-Lok hook is available in Hi-Viz yellow to increase visibility in all weather conditions and under water.

The Double-Lok feature is engineered for ease of use. The two lock safety gate is intuitive and can be operated easily with one hand even with gloves on. The hook body is forged from 17.4 PH, heat-treated stainless steel and is rated with a working load of 3,000 pounds. The Double-Lok hook is available in either a satin stainless steel finish or a powder-coated high-visibility yellow finish with contrasting orange lock release. In tests, the new neon paint scheme was greatly preferred by search & rescue professionals who often operate in high stress conditions where spatial and situational awareness is critical.

Capewell Business Line Manager, Butch Flythe, himself a retired USCG Master Chief Petty Officer and rescue swimmer states, “Capewell has always made the best rescue hooks, and the new Double-Lok Hook puts us even farther ahead. It’s a step up by having more options and increased visibility.” Feedback on the new Hi-Viz paint scheme has been so positive that CAS has decided to make it available for their entire line of hooks including the “Slide-Lok” and “Auto-Lok” models. Capewell Aerial Systems is now accepting orders for the new Double-Lok hook and will begin shipping to customers during the fourth quarter of 2016.

MMI Textiles Announces MultiCam Woven Loop

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

9/8/2016 — As a part of their new printed narrow fabrics line, MMI Textiles, Inc. is now offering printed loop in both MultiCam® and OCP. MMI is responding to a need within the industry for printed loop and now after approval, the product is available for sale. It is the only printed woven loop that is made to A-A-55126 available in the market, and has excellent quality and resolution.

It’s just one of the many products within their new line. After announcing a partnership with Mikan Printing in May, the company rolled out a line of printed webbing, binding tape, loop, elastic, and zipper. Most of these are currently in stock in MultiCam® pattern, with MultiCam® Alpine®, Arid, Black and Tropic patterns being developed in the coming weeks. OCP is being printed on various materials as needed and by government contract only. Samples are available from MMI by request.

These materials are 100% Berry Compliant and created with patent-pending technology that gives the usual “white-edge” much more of a concealed appearance.

This news illustrates MMI’s on-going commitment to serve the military and tactical industries. For any inquiries or interest in samples, call MMI at 440-899-8050 or email them at info@mmitextiles.com.

Duro Textiles Closing

Monday, August 29th, 2016

Rumors regarding the future of Duro Textiles have been swirling the cut-and-sew industry since Duro Textiles failed to reopen their doors after their annual Summer break.

Reportedly, Duro sent the Massachusetts Division of Career Services a WARN Act notice (Worker Adjustment Retraining and Notification ) that it would be permanently laying off its 131 person workforce by 15 October and closing the factory, which has been in operation for almost 70 years.

Industry sources I had spoken with informed that a potential buyer had expressed serious interest in the troubled brand, currently managed by investment firm Patriarch Patners.  Unfortunately, that deal hasn’t seemed to materialize.

This is a major blow to the tactical industry as they have printed specialty camouflage patterns for several brands.  So too will the US Army’s attempts to source royalty-free OCP (Scorpion W2) fabrics be seriously undercut.

MultiCam patent holder Crye Precision Has been fighting a protracted legal battle with Duro over IP issues with Crye filing an appeal to a court decision earlier this year to dismiss the case.

We wish all of the laid off textile workers well in their search for new employment. They clothed generation after generation of American service members.

MATBOCK Monday || Ghost and Ghost Lite

Monday, August 29th, 2016

MATBOCK was in search of a lightweight material that was not only strong, but durable and would outperform existing materials. After 2.5 years of searching and failing to yield acceptable results, MATBOCK decided to develop their own blend.

In keeping with their motto of “Lighter Faster Warriors”, they had to ensure that the material was going to be lighter than anything else on the market so they started looking at fiber based materials. This led them to test materials such as Tyvek®; however, it was not strong enough. In keeping with that same mentality they started researching sail cloth or dyneema based materials and ultimately Ghost was born in an alloy type laminate allowing for the strengths of many different materials to shine through. After years of testing on and off the battlefield, Ghost has met the demanding requirements.

Traditional manufacturing methods of nylon do not work well with Ghost, leading MATBOCK to continually test, develop and improve their methods for construction. At nearly half the weight of alternative fabrics, and nearly 4 times stronger, they are excited to finally bring this capability to the tactical gear market. MATBOCK would never put a piece of gear in the field that did not meet their own rigorous standards as it is their own brothers, friends, and teammates depending on it.

Below you can find the Spec Sheet for Ghost.

Blue Force Gear Receives Patent

Friday, August 26th, 2016

SAVANNAH, GA-August 10, 2016- Blue Force Gear®, a growing design and manufacturing company in the firearms accessories industry, announces that it has been granted its second US patent for the Helium Whisper® load carrier system and associated manufacturing methods. US patent 9,295,319 embodies the ability for a load carrier system to include a unitary piece of material.

The patent covers two embodiments of the load carriage system. One of which pertains to the unitary piece of material, and the other being the benefits through manufacturing methods of Helium Whisper®.

Helium Whisper® revolutionizes the MOLLE attachment system by combining a single piece back panel with ULTRAcomp®, an extremely durable, lightweight high-performance proprietary laminate. By reducing the number of parts involved in MOLLE attachment, the single-piece design decreases potential errors and weak points, provides easier production and offers a lighter alternative to any other pouch system.

“Blue Force Gear continues to innovate as the leader in the production of lightweight gear,” says CEO Ashley Burnsed. “For more than two decades the primary health threat to troops has been common joint, muscle and bone injuries including back pain. The average load carried by a Rifleman can be in excess of 127 pounds. Blue Force Gear celebrates every ounce of weight reduction because ounces equal pounds, and our pouches built with the Helium Whisper® system can reduce weight by up to 60 percent, making our service members lighter, faster and quite possibly healthier.”

This patent solidifies Helium Whisper® as a true innovation in lightweight attachment systems. In addition to Blue Force Gear’s products, the Helium Whisper® attachment system is in wide use by manufacturers such as SAFARILAND Group, Velocity Systems, Platatac and Strategen who license the technology from Blue Force Gear directly.
