NTMC 2017
MAY 21, 2017 – Charlotte, NC

Greetings! We’re happy to announce that enrollment for the 2017 National Tactical Medicine Competition has officially opened. Last year at the 2016 competition, we had several teams compete in the challenge. This year, we’re increasing the stakes and challenging our teams even more.

The National Tactical Medic Competition, is an event created to allow tactical medical providers from around the country, the opportunity to collaborate and compete in a community of peers. Civilian Tactical Medicine is a relatively new topic within the world of pre-hospital medicine. Together with The Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, we are creating opportunities to increase awareness, collaboration and training. This competition is a great opportunity to bring like minded individuals together, and support a cause greater than self.

The National Tactical Medic Competition is based on the Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Guidelines, all simulated patient care will be inline with the currently approved guidelines. The Committee for Tactical Emergency Casualty Care endorses the NTMC.

Proceeds from the Competition will benefit C-TECC, and the improvement of tactical medical care and education.

For more information on signing up to compete as a team, attend as a spectator, or contribute as a sponsor, please visit the competition website.

Pine Belt Processing, Inc New Product Gains EPA Approval

Wednesday, October 12th, 2016

STONEWALL, MS – Pine Belt Processing, Inc. is proud to announce the launch of its new product, PERIMETER ETO INSECT GUARD, which was recently awarded approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). With the rise of insect?transmitted illnesses, Mississippi?based Pine Belt Processing, Inc. realized a new product was needed to better protect service members serving in Zika?ridden environments.

PERIMETER ETO INSECT GUARD provides the user maximum bite protection through a highly?effective insecticide called Etofenprox. Textile fibers are treated with Etofenprox, providing the most effective protection available. PERIMETER ETO INSECT GUARD garments provide safety from bites at a consistent protection rate of 90% or higher and the reliability lasts for up to 75 washes.

PERIMETER ETO INSECT GUARD can be used to treat uniforms for pregnant service members, whereas current Permethrin insecticides are not used in maternity uniforms because of safety concerns. Etofenprox insecticide is registered in more than 50 countries for both agricultural and public health use. Textiles treated with PERIMETER ETO INSECT GUARD will provide the most effective protection available against insect?borne illnesses with unparalleled safety and with the lowest environmental impact.

PERIMETER ETO INSECT GUARD will be applied at the Pine Belt Processing facility in Stonewall, Miss. The recent EPA approval provides Pine Belt Processing the green light to treat military clothing and to further distribute its product – a fact that could potentially grow the company in the coming months.

“We are in the business of protecting our Armed Forces from insect?borne diseases – a job that is of utmost importance, especially with the rise of the Zika Virus,” said Ron Lack, General Manager of Pine Belt Processing. “A better solution to outdoor protective clothing was required, and our new product is the answer to protect those who protect us.” Lack also expressed appreciation to members of the Mississippi congressional delegation for assisting the company in its application to the EPA.

MDM – Name This “Accessible Under Armor Trauma Kit” Contest from Phokus Research Group

Wednesday, September 28th, 2016

Phokus Research Group developed this Dual Zipper Under Armor Deployment version of the Sons Traima Kit for those units who need to be able to access the components of their medical items. In addition to the ability to maintain the kits when items expire, the dual zipper also allows units to update their components with new items. It still fits in the late pocket of the Armor Vest so they’ve also introduced a split seam so the items stay in place.

It’s a great product, but the name is a mouthful and more of a nomenclature than a cool name. I suggested Phokus allow the SSD readers to name it. So here’s your shot to be a marketing genius. Phokus will reward the best name, judged by them, two fully loaded versions of this kit as well as two Shield kits.

To enter, follow these rules:
1. In the comments section of THIS, and only THIS, article on SSD, share your proposed name. Only entries here are eligible to win. Of more than ine person submits a name, the first use gets credit for it.

2. Comments are open from now until 1600 Zulu on 30 September 2016 (that’s this Friday at High Noon Eastern Daylight Time).

3. Use any alias you want to post but be sure to use a valid email address since that’s how we’ll contact the winner.

4. Phokus Research Group will select the name from the comments we receive.

5. One entry per email address. We will delete entries that violate this policy.

6. Must be 18 to enter. Void where prohibited.

By the way, Phokus products are available for unit and agency purchase from ADS Inc.

MATBOCK Monday || Shield IFAK Pouch

Monday, September 19th, 2016

This is MATBOCK’s Shield IFAK Pouch. Designed for the Phokus Research Shield kit or any similarly sized IFAK, it features a single tab pull system that will extract the kit halfway from the pouch for easy access for the operator without fear of having the kit fall out of the pouch. Made from MATBOCK’s Ghost Lite material, it is extremely lightweight and features a drain hole at the bottom to ensure zero weight gain when exposed to wet environments.

The pictures are of pre-production prototyoes and show 1 inch webbing used for MOLLE and belt attachments, but these have been switched to 3/4″ webbing so that the pouch will fit on just 2 rows of MOLLE.

Available in MultiCam (shipping in 2 weeks) while Tan and Black colors are expected in the near future.

MATBOCK Monday – LIFT System

Monday, September 12th, 2016

The MATBOCK LIFT System has been out for a few years now, but as units look to spend their EOY funds, MATBOCK wanted to highlight the fact that this comprehensive system not only saves money, but also a lot of weight.

f0476b_matbock-lift-system-comparison

In the below PDF, you will see uses of the system and the description of each product. Yes, litters, ladders and bags have been around for a very longtime, but nothing has ever been put together like this. The Combat Carbon Poles are the backbone because they can be used throughout the entire system.

So, let’s say you have a 21 man platoon, well the LIFT System can be spread-loaded across multiple people to make it very effective and versatile kit. For example: Each shooting pair would carry 1 x S-LIFT, while recce (or climbing team) would carry the LIFT Ladder with Combat Carbon Poles. Additionally, this team could also carry the LIFT Coupler to give them the ability to quickly turn their two 7.5ft combat carbon poles into a 15ft extension pole. This leaves the medic deciding if the mission requires them to carry the R-LIFT with another set of poles or just carry the R-LIFT bed, since recce has at least 1 set of poles on the operation.

It’s hard to fully understand the versatility of this system unit you see it in person or use it, but this video helps showcase a few ways to employ the entire system.
