New Models Provide Options for an Illuminated Reticle Plus Multiple Turret System

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas – January 21, 2020 – Bushnell, an industry leader in performance optics, has expanded its line of Prime riflescopes with two new models for 2020. Engineered to serve as the new standard in hunting optics, the Prime lineup now includes a 3-9x40mm riflescope with an illuminated Multi-X reticle for low light situations along with a 3-12x40mm riflescope packaged with seve custom turrets pre-calibrated for some of today’s most popular hunting calibers.

Designed to provide hunters with an extra advantage afield, both new Prime riflescope models feature fully multi-coated optics for a bright, clear view at dusk and dawn. Each riflescope has been further enhanced with Bushnell’s proprietary EXO™ Barrier lens coating. This patented process, when applied to glass, molecularly bonds to the exterior lens surfaces resulting in a super-slick coating that repels water, fog, dust and debris. Formulated to last over the lifetime of the riflescope, the new EXO Barrier coating ensures that your view of the target will always be clear even when the weather is not. Additional standard features found on both riflescopes include a 1-inch tube and second focal plane design along with a fast focus eyepiece.

The new 3-9x40mm Prime riflescope is available with an illuminated Multi-X reticle to assist with quick target acquisition. Six brightness settings enable precise aiming in any lighting situation while the scope’s low-profile design allows it to be easily mounted on a variety of firearm platforms. In addition, the riflescope features capped elevation and windage turrets to prevent unwanted movement along with a fixed 100-yard parallax.

For those shooters seeking quick elevation adjustments for some of today’s most popular hunting calibers, the new Prime 3-12x40mm riflescope is the answer. Packaged with seven exposed elevation turrets, the new models make it easy to match your riflescope to your preferred cartridge. Pre-calibrated to provide a simple one-click solution, the Prime riflescope offers turrets customized for MOA, 17HMR, 22LR, 450 Bushmaster along with muzzleloaders (250/300gr) as well as 12- and 20-gauge options. The new Prime riflescopes is the perfect option for those seeking quick and easy ballistic accuracy.

The two Prime riflescopes along with other new optics models will be on display during the 2020 SHOT Show (Booth No 14551), January 21-24 at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s a 2 MOA red dot sight which incorporates Bullet Drop Compensation via interchangeable turrets for various ammunition. These can be tailor made for specific ammunition. The red dot sight also offers wind or lead compensation adjustment.

Aimpoint press release follows;

Las Vegas, Nevada – Aimpoint, the originator and worldwide leader in reflex sighting technology, is proud to announce that the Aimpoint® CompM5b™ sight is now being offered for sale worldwide. The Aimpoint CompM5b is a ballistic compensating red dot optic in the CompM5 series of sights. This revolutionary sight allows the user to quickly adjust the position of the 2 MOA red dot based on target distance and wind conditions.

The CompM5b comes with interchangeable turrets that adjust the point of aim for different calibers of ammunition. While shooting, the user can switch between longer and shorter distances without having to compensate ballistic drop or re-zero the sight. Wind compensation can be adjusted on 3 levels – mild, moderate, and severe. Adjustment turrets are customizable to meet specific customer requirements and ballistic profiles.

The CompM5b is the newest member of the CompM5 series of sights and is powered by a single AAA battery. These small and lightweight batteries are inexpensive and easy to find throughout the world. Readily available alkaline versions of the AAA simplify logistics and eliminate the potential shipping hazards inherent in lithium batteries. The CompM5b boasts an extremely long battery life – with over 5 years of continuous use at daylight position 7 and over 10 years of continuous use at the night vision settings. These sights were designed to take up minimal space on the weapon platform while maintaining the same standard of extreme ruggedness and reliability.

SIG Range Day 20 – Smart Shooter

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

Israeli company Smart Shooter demonstrates their SMASH system mounted to a SIG M400 carbine. SMASH is a small arms fire control system that combines a thermal imager and algorithms to acquire a target, lock on to it and then effectively engage it. Once the target is selected and locked, you keep it in your sight picture and depress the trigger. The weapon will knot engage when a proper firing solution is found. Using it, I was able to easily engage moving targets out to 200 meters.

Seen here is the trainer version on a generic stick which is used to show new shooters how to use the system. Thanks to the thermal camera, it can be used in day or night. Additionally, the sight picture can be shared with others via C4 systems.

The system can be used to designate and Additionally, SMASH has been used to engage drones with M4 carbines.

SIG CEO Ron Cohen told me that they are going to work with Smart Shooter in the future and introduce some of their technology into the system such as BDX.

This system makes the average shooter more accurate and can be used for individual precision shots out to 300m. Naturally, you don’t have to use it if you need to engage multiple targets at once.

Meopta DichroTech Reticle Technology Wins Gray’s Best Award

Sunday, January 19th, 2020

TAMPA, FL, January 15, 2020 – Meopta’s groundbreaking DichroTech reticle technology, which delivers battery-free illumination, has won a 2020 Gray’s Best award.  This advanced dichroic coating enables reticles in multiple color configurations to automatically adjust color tone and intensity in varying light conditions without the use of a battery.   DichroTech provides maximum contrast and visibility, enhancing target acquisition while speeding and improving shot placement.

The following are excerpts from the Gray’s Sporting Journal 2020 Expeditions and Guides Annual:

“This is the first time in the 25-year history of Gray’s Best that we have given the award for a reticle technology, but when Meopta refers to their DichroTech as “game changing,” they are not exaggerating.

In recent years, the hot item has been illuminated reticles, with the illumination powered by batteries.  These have steadily improved, with such modifications as variable intensity to suit ambient conditions and prevent loss of night vision, and automatic shut-offs to conserve battery power.  Each has had its drawbacks, however, not least being the need for instant adjustment when seconds count (a glimpse of a moving deer at twilight) to batteries dying at the most inopportune moment, and the need to remember to carry spares.

Meopta’s new “dichroic” technology gives you a coating, for lack of a better term, which adjusts the reticle’s visibility to ambient light conditions with no action on your part.  It is permanent, battery free, and never threatens your night vision.”

• Terry Wieland, Shooting Editor

“We are honored to receive this prestigious award from Gray’s Sporting Journal and appreciate their recognition of Meopta’s efforts to offer hunters and shooters a unique alternative to battery-powered illuminated riflescopes,” said Pavel Stastny, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing at Meopta.  “DichroTech reticles have been well received, and we will continue to add more reticle options using this new technology.”

DichroTech reticles are currently available in the MeoStar and Optika6 riflescope lines with more offerings to come.
