Bad Company Tactical: R2S Optics Mount and Accessory Mount

Thursday, January 3rd, 2019

Bad Company Tactical gave us a preview of their Rapid Retention System Optical and Accessory Mount. It’s a quick-change optics and accessory mount.

optics-mount-assy-rev-x1-pic1.jpg

The R2S Optics Mount allows the end user to rapidly change the optics on the move with out having to remove the base from the weapon. The push of a single button allows end users to move from one optical platform to another in seconds and with out having to remove the entire optic and mount; this equates to not having to paint mark or guess exactly where the optic was mounted before for a proper eye relief or return to zero.  The R2S Optics Mount also allows for the end user to have more than one optic for more than one application, not the shooter can go from a dedicated magnified optic to a parallax free red dot with the push of a button. This system also allows for the use of quick detach magnifiers, lasers, lights, and other accessories like night vision.

Another good use will be the ability to have dedicated optics for different barrel lengths or even calibers.  With more adaptable weapon platforms the new R2S Optics Mount allows the end user to quickly switch not only your barrel or caliber out but to ensure that your pre-zeroed optic will return to zero once you lock it into place.  This will give end users a new level of adaptability for both optics and accessories.  There is even going to be an MPA RAT adaptable base plate for accessories supporting precision shooting supporting tripods, barricade braces, and bipods. Now the shooter will be able to simple “clip” into supporting systems for precision shooters quickly and with out failure.

This system will usher in a new adaptable platform that not only supports optics but the use of multiple platforms allowing for rapid customization without sacrificing repeatability and reliability.  The Bad Company Tactical R2S Optics Mount ensures adaptability for the most popular optics and supporting accessories.  The R2S Optics Mount will be debuted at Shot Show 2019 along with a new improved and more modular Rapid Retention System as well.

Holosun Solar Failsafe

Friday, December 14th, 2018

City of Industry, CA – Raising the bar once again, Holosun is pleased to introduce one of its newest innovations, Solar Failsafe. This technology utilizes ambient light to keep weapon sights running in the event the batteries fail. Whether using natural or artificial light, models equipped with this feature keep users in the fight or in the field until the job is done.

While all Holosun optics boast an impressive 50,000-hour battery life, all batteries eventually fail. Ensuring that their optics won’t fail at a critical moment, when the shot matters most, optics equipped with Solar Failsafe use the power of ambient lighting to stay powered on until the user can safely stop to replace their batteries. Because Solar Failsafe uses light from the environment to keep the reticle powered on the brightness of the reticle changes with the amount of light available, so users can be assured their optic will always be as bright, or as dim, as the situation demands.

Users can have peace of mind knowing that their weapon sight is always ready and always on for any application. Whether it’s a hunter who can’t miss their one shot, a soldier or officer who can’t put combat on hold to change batteries, or the average citizen preparing for a situation where batteries may become scarce, Solar Failsafe has their backs. There’s already enough to think about when working with a firearm, optics’ batteries shouldn’t be among them.

Several Holosun weapon sights are equipped with the optional Solar Failsafe technology and can be found in the company catalog. They also may feature other innovative technologies designed to extend battery life such as the Multiple Reticle System, Super Green L.E.D., and Shake Awake. Models featuring Solar Failsafe are on sale today and can be purchased through authorized Holosun retailers.

Marine Corps Awards OTAs to Assess Handheld Targeting Capabilities

Friday, December 14th, 2018

MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. —
Marine Corps Systems Command has awarded four Other Transaction Authorities to assess industry’s capability to produce a Next Generation Handheld Targeting System that is compact, rugged and lightweight.

The use of OTAs were approved by Congress in 2016 as a procurement method to pay for prototypes and to use nontraditional defense companies to spur innovation.

The OTAs were awarded to BAE Systems, Elbit Systems of America, Fraser Optics and Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation. The four companies will explore possibilities focused on the following criteria:

-The system’s overall ergonomics for supporting forward deployed, foot mobile users
-Target recognition, location and designation ranges during day and night operations
-The ability to integrate the system with the Target Handoff System Version 2 to view and manipulate target information
-Technological maturity, manufacturability and value engineering
-Sustainability at the operational user level

The Next Generation Handheld Targeting System, or NGHTS, is a single, lightweight, man-portable system that enables Marines to quickly acquire targets; perform guidance of against targets; and generate target location data during combat operations.

“During the first phase, the four awarded companies will explore potential system capabilities and provide Marine Corps Systems Command with an in-depth study of the best solution for our Marines at the best price,” said Megan Full, contract specialist supporting Program Manager Fires at MCSC. “We will collect the findings by the second quarter of fiscal year 2019 and choose one or more vendors to move onto phase two where they will develop and demonstrate prototypes.”

Currently, the Marine Corps uses four legacy systems: the Portable Lightweight Designator Rangefinder, Joint Terminal Attack Controller, Laser Target Designator and Thermal Laser Spot Imager. The intent is for NGHTS to replace all four systems.

“For the last four years, we have worked diligently to explore an option that condenses the legacy versions into one lightweight system with a reliable power supply that is rugged enough to throw onto a Marine’s pack,” said Jeff Nebel, Fire Support Coordination Team lead, PM Fires.

“The NGHTS will combine all of the legacy capabilities into one system that is compatible with both current and future fire support systems, and will support the Marine Corps for the next 15 to 20 years.”

“The NGHTS will be an important advancement because it is planned to reduce the current weight of the laser designation and laser spot imaging capability by 60 percent, which will increase the mobility and lethality of our fire support-focused Marines,” said Maj. Nathan Morales, Targeting Systems project officer, PM Fires. “This capability is focused on our ability to fight in the compartmentalized terrain outlined in the Marine Operating Concept.”
