High Speed Gear TRASH Bag

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

North Carolina-based High Speed Gear produces a wide range of tactical nylon equipment and accessories. Based on the continued popularity of the ALICE pack, they developed the TRASH Bag. HSGI always wants to integrate new capabilities into their products so they recently produced a variant of the TRASH Bag that will not only work with the venerable ALICE frame but also the new Down East 1606 frame. While the 1606 frame is indeed an external system, many feel it works as more of a hybrid due to the way it hugs the bag and wraps around the wearer. The 1606 is much more of an interface than an end unto itself.

Designed to replicate the footprint of the Large ALICE pack, the TRASH Bag adds a carrying handle and in place of the ALICE’s pockets, it is covered in PALS webbing. Internally, the radio pouch has been replaced with PALS webbing.

The lid is removable to reveal a generous top opening with a spindrift. It also integrates a panel opening on the back. The panel flap has two mesh pockets to help organize equipment.

The packs are offered in 1000D Cordura. HSGI built a prototype in 500D but felt the weight difference was negligible. While the photos depict the TRASH pack in MARPAT, that pattern is currently unavailable. Rather, the pack comes in Khaki (standard), Smoke Green, and Multicam. Other patterns are available if the customer supplies material. The pack does not come with a frame, waist belt, or shoulder straps.

Build Your Own Bag

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Tibuk2 has long been renown for their excellent laptop and messenger bags. They have just updated their very user friendly “Build Your Own Bag” site with Camo goodness. While the depiction on the website sure looks like Multicam, we have been told that it is “inspired” by Multicam and not the genuine article.

Smoking Deal on Arc’teryx Packs

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Grey Group has done it again, unleashing a hot deal on Arc’teryx products, but this time it’s the the Echo and Tango packs. Available starting Friday, 3 July, the Tango will be available in Crocodile and the Echo will be available in Crocodile as well as UCP.

In both cases the harness features a thermoformed suspension system to eliminate pressure points and muscle fatigue. Additionally, the Tango and Echo have ample PALS webbing to accommodate additional equipment as well as removable lids that can pull emergency duty as E&E bags. Both packs are produced in the high tenacity 725D Cordura engineered specifically for the Marine Corps ILBE program. In fact, the Tango traces its lineage to the USMC’s ILBE pack.

Arc'teryx Tango Pack in Crocodile

The Tango pack fits a torso of 18″-21″ and a waist size of 32″-37″. It weighs 3.34 Kg / 7 lbs 6 oz dry and has a load capacity of 4000 Cu In / 65.5 L. The Tango is a hybrid top/panel loader allowing you to access your equipment quickly no matter where it is stored in the pack.

Arc'teryx Echo Pack
Please note: Echo Pack is NOT currently available in Multicam

The Echo pack is slightly smaller than the Tango. It too accommodates a torso of 18″-21″ and a waist of 32″-37″ but weighs less at 3.09 Kg / 6 lbs 13 oz but has a smaller capacity of 3300 Cu In / 54 L. Additionally, the Echo was designed especially for airborne operations and features an attachment system for the lowering line that eliminates the need for an additional drop bag or harness. Additionally, the waist belt is removable and can be reversed for rigging.

Both of these packs are offered at SUBSTANTIAL discount from their MSRPs. Also, don’t forget, the sale on the Combat Jacket in UCP is still going on as well so pick one up before they are gone.

Ultimately the sky is the limit with the number of Dappers, but the initial push includes everything from a PALS-compatible panel to a laptop sleeve as well as velcro backed versions of their successful 10 Speed pouches. You can’t order them yet, but head on over anyway and drool.

Kifaru Now Offers Printed Webbing Option

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Kifaru International

American pack maker Kifaru recently discussed the issues that surround offering printed webbing on their web forum. Due to the cost involved with stocking additional materials in various sizes to manufacture packs with both printed Multicam and UCP webbing, combined with low market demand, they have decided to delay altering their line. However, they announced that they will now accommodate special orders, with a slight catch. You will have to provide the webbing.

Anyone interested in this option will need to contact Janice at the shop to get the correct Bill of Materials and be prepared to pay a 10% surcharge for a custom pack. This is the same procedure for other custom pack options they have offered in the past.

To order any of the Kifaru line of packs visit www.kifaru.net.

We would also like to take this opportunity to welcome Kifaru International as a new sponsor of Soldier Systems Daily.
