Products leverage 3M’s advanced-materials expertise to give soldiers optimal protection at a light weight

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Oct. 9, 2017 – Greater threats and changing missions demand a higher caliber of head and body protection than what many militaries around the world use today. 3M will be showcasing a family of soldier protection solutions that address this need in Booth 7243 at the AUSA 2017 Annual Meeting and Exposition.

Among the 3M offerings on display will be the new Combat II Ballistic Helmet L110. This state-of-the-art helmet delivers 3M’s highest ballistic protection to date. Developed by Ceradyne, Inc., a 3M company, the L110 helmet is based on technology that has been tested, fielded and proven with the U.S. military.

“There’s tremendous interest globally for head protection that defends against today’s most prevalent threats, like explosive devices and rifle bullets, at the lightest possible weight,” said Cheryl Ingstad, business manager, Advanced Ceramics Platform – Defense, 3M. “We put our scientific expertise to work to deliver exactly that in the L110 helmet. We look forward to discussing the L110 helmet, our range of innovative soldier-protection offerings and future advancements at this year’s event.”

3M representatives will also be available at AUSA to discuss the company’s support for the U.S. Army’s Soldier Protection System (SPS) program.

Ceradyne was awarded a low-rate initial production (LRIP) contract in 2016 for the program’s Integrated Head Protection System (IHPS) component. The IHPS will give soldiers a lighter-weight ballistic helmet system with passive hearing protection and increased blunt impact performance. The 3M IHPS offering is currently undergoing government testing.

Ceradyne was also awarded an LRIP contract for the SPS’s Vital Torso Protection (VTP) component, which seeks to give soldiers lighter-weight body armor inserts. Government testing of these inserts has been completed.

With more than 70 years of support for the U.S. Armed Forces, 46 technology platforms and proven performance in the field, 3M can help program managers solve their toughest challenges. Life-saving 3M innovations include: lightweight ballistic helmets and body armor, aircraft armor, 3M™ PELTOR™ tactical communications, and respiratory, hearing and eye protection.

The ComCentr2 System includes the Human Interface Device (HID), an intuitive, hand held control unit designed to fit comfortably in the user’s hand. Buttons on the device enable radio transmission, volume adjustment and switching between radios. Unlike systems containing a fixed number of ports, the HID includes a lower section outfitted with a custom dongle. Supporting a wide variety of system configurations and communication devices, dongle attachments enable mission specific configurations in multi-role and multi-channel environments, while ensuring compatibility with legacy and future systems.

Logos Technologies To Exhibit Wide-Area Sensor for Integrator UAS, Low-Acoustic Bike to AUSA

Thursday, October 5th, 2017

New Redkite delivers powerful imaging with system that fits inside payload bay of small UAS

FAIRFAX, Va. — October 3, 2017 — Logos Technologies will be displaying for the first time at the upcoming Association of the United States Army (AUSA) expo in Washington, D.C., a Redkite wide-area sensor configured for the Insitu Integrator tactical unmanned aircraft.

IMG_4599

“For this AUSA, we will exhibit two versions of our ultra-lightweight Redkite WAMI,” said John Marion, president of Logos Technologies, “our standard podded model, plus a new integrated version — both of which have been recently tested on Group 3 unmanned aircraft systems.”

Like larger wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) systems, Redkite can cover a city-sized area (12 square kilometers) at once—detecting, tracking and recording all significant movers within the scene and transmitting multiple imagery streams to users on the ground in real time. It also stores up to eight hours of geo-tagged mission data for real time and forensic analysis.

This year, Logos Technologies conducted test flights of a Redkite fitted for the payload bay of the Insitu Integrator / RQ-21 Blackjack. This sensor version demonstrated its ability to capture and stabilize WAMI and stream it to multiple handheld devices.

Logos Technologies also successfully tested these capabilities with a platform-agnostic Redkite pod mounted to the wing of a TigerShark, a Group 3 unmanned aircraft system developed by Navmar Applied Sciences Corporation (NASC), in a flight in July.

“U.S. and international customers to AUSA will get to see how powerful WAMI sensors are now moving on to smaller platforms and what that means for the tactical commander,” Marion said.

IMG_4490

Also on display for the first time at the AUSA expo is the SilentHawk all-wheel drive, hybrid-electric motorcycle designed to quietly carry troops and their gear over rough terrain and behind enemy lines. Logos Technologies was recently awarded a second Phase II SBIR for further optimization of the motorcycle’s design.

For more information on Logos Technologies and its innovative solutions, please visit Booth 1065 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, October 9-11.
