DRI Foundation Accepting Applications For Veterans Outreach Scholarship

Friday, June 16th, 2017

Training for business continuity, disaster recovery careers offered to military service members

New York – June 14 – The Disaster Recovery International (DRI) Foundation is accepting applications for an industry-first “giving-back” scholarship program to active duty or recently separated military veterans.

“As an Air Force veteran, I know exactly what it’s like to have a lot of ambiguity about what my next career step was going to be,” said Larry Chase, Co-Chair of the DRI Foundation Veterans Outreach Program Committee. “We wanted not only to help, guide and mentor, but to create opportunities for veterans as they come out of military service and into the public and private sectors.”

Scholarships are open to recently separated and soon-to-separate military veterans and include, at no cost to qualified candidates, admission to a DRI International business continuity educational course, all course materials, qualifying examination, and all application fees. As the leading business continuity training organization worldwide, DRI has more than 15,000 certified professionals in over 100 countries.

The current round of applications will be accepted through June 30, 2017. This will be the second group of veterans to receive scholarships from the DRI Foundation.

“One of the major challenges is being able to take all the military experience you have and package it in a way civilians understand it,” said Florence Moss, a certified graduate of the DRI Veterans Outreach Program. “I had to rebuild my confidence as I was reintegrating. Completing my certification was a light for me. And I’m truly thankful for it. Having an international organization that validates what I’ve already accomplished shows organizations that I have those tools.”

The DRI Foundation is incorporating the scholarship into its summer giving agenda with a Fund-A-Vet online fundraiser via Crowdrise. With the help of its donors, the goal is to reach or exceed $4,000 (the cost of a DRI course and materials) by July 4, 2017. Donors can support the fundraiser at: www.crowdrise.com/veteransoutreachprogram/fundraiser/drifoundation

“We are delighted with the positive response to the Foundation’s Veterans Outreach Program,” said AnneMarie Staley, DRI Foundation Chair. “The resilience community recognizes the tremendous value that service members bring with them through their military experience, and we want to bring them into this career field for which they are a perfect fit, but with which they may not be familiar.”

Jumping In: The First Tactical Jump Bags

    Thursday, June 15th, 2017

I saw these at SHOT Show and am very impressed. They worked with EMS professionals to introduce features not often found in soft bags.

First Tactical is excited to announce the launch of their new EMS Jump Bags.

The Large Jump Bag is 22” x 12” x 12” and is perfect for an ALS set up. The Medium Jump Bag is 22” x 10” x 10” and is an ideal BLS medical bag.

First Tactical’s design team worked hand-in-hand with end users to create a bag that would work in any situation.

A TPU molded bottom allows users to enter a situation and place their bag down without worry. The easy-clean bottom is light grey in color allowing users to take a decon wipe and quickly decontaminate their bag. The bottom is also waterproof and features oversized lugs providing flexibility based on situation: from being dragged across concrete to being set down on a wet carpet in a house with too many cats, this bag has you covered.

Traditional bags require operators “yard sale” their equipment when looking for what they need. The Jump Bags feature a “three-quarter zip” opening that minimizes the amount of the “lid” on the ground while allowing medics to open their bag and see everything they need quickly.

Boasting countless other features including a hook and loop interior, simple silhouette, and gurney hooks these bags will work as hard as you do. See all details here.

Both Jump Bags are available now and come in red and hi-vis yellow. The Large Jump Bag is priced at $199.99, the Medium Jump Bag is available for $179.99. First Tactical’s complete EMS Kit collection is also available.

Advanced Combat Solutions – Light Emitting Magazine Indicator

    Thursday, June 15th, 2017

Advanced Combat Solutions (ACS) collaborates with Elite Tactical Systems Group (ETS) to bring you the markets first tritium enhanced clear-bodied AR15 mag!

    IMG_2545

Fort Lauderdale, Florida June 13th, 2017- Advanced Combat Solutions, the maker of the Light Emitting Magazine Indicator (LEMI), has launched their new and flagship product, an AR15 magazine follower customized to hold a Gaseous Tritium Light Source(GTLS). The usage of tritium technology is nothing new in the firearms industry as it has been used for decades in firearm’s sights, to improve accuracy in low-light or when shooting at night. The latest innovation by ACS improves upon clear-bodied magazine technology that is seeing more and more use by the civilian population of shooters, law enforcement as well as Military use, by providing a visual means to identify quantity of ammunition remaining in a magazine.

    IMG_2546

Advanced Combat Solutions has been working with the U.S. Army’s Asymmetric Warfare Group for a little over a year now to field test clear-bodied magazines,(the usage of which might see more standard issuance depending on approved requisitions.)

“The addition of the GTLS provides added utility to the main reason an operator would choose to use a clear-bodied magazine to begin with, being able to visually see the rounds in-mag”, said Michael Ball, head of R&D @ ACS. “There are many use cases that the US Military considers beyond the magazine simply being inserted into the weapon for use. At night, magazines can and do get shared by soldiers, also the organization of partially spent mags, and a better understanding of their remaining round count can be ascertained easier and faster if a soldier can visually see the answer within the magazine.” “The technology should be considered a performance enhancement feature to existing hardware, nothing more, nothing less.”

    IMG_2544

    The following is from the technical white papers submitted to the PEO Soldier system;

    Tactical/Safety/Usability benefits to Operator:
    • Conservation of motion – in low-light/zero-light conditions
    • Visual recognition of ammunition quantity within magazine irrespective to time of day
    • Uniformity of visual check process for magazine remaining round count steps are repeatable in both day and nighttime operations
    • Operators using LEMI technology can instantly visually see indication of remaining rounds via indexing of light emissions off the spine of the magazine body
    • LEMI light emissions are directly facing the operator of the weapons platform when magazine is inserted in weapon’s lower receiver
    • LEMI has a low-light signature making it only easily viewed by operator

Advanced Combat Solutions is primarily a firearm’s technology concept and design shop. ACS has several utility patents, method, and design patents under their belt, some in ACS name others in their holding company. ACS has two products being launched in 2017, the ICSI and LEMI both via partnerships with well-known and reputable companies in the industry. The company’s mission is to provide performance/combat enhancing & innovative product into the firearms market, and currently employs five people between its HQ in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and its workshop in Madera, California. The company’s website at www.advancedcombatsolutions.com contains additional information on the founders backgrounds.

    Thursday, June 15th, 2017

As of May 8th, 2017 OPT has moved into a brick and mortar store and has established walk in sales hours (M-F 9:00 am – 3:00 pm). The new location is 2533-103 Atlantic Avenue, in Raleigh, NC. For people that know the area, that is the corner of Six Forks Road and Atlantic Avenue, between the DMV office and Phy’deaux. Store front signage is pending.

“This move has been long overdue and facilitates the direction that OPT has been headed in for the last few years. We sell very high end products to Armed Professionals, and want to present those items in as professional of an atmosphere as possible to both the end user, and casual browser.” Stated the owner, MSG Jon Sercan (USA, RET), when commenting on the move. Jon retired from the Army in 2016 and now works in the store; prior he had run it in absentia since 2004.

The new location is developing from an ecommerce model into a full blown retail outlet. Other plans are in the mix as well, but nothing is being announced at this time. Jon simply stated “OPT will build inventory, test gear, and improve our fighting position daily.”

OPT has carved a niche for itself within the gear industry, representing high end brands such as Mayflower- Velocity, Crye Precision, Spiritus Systems, Salomon, Arc’Teryx, Hesco, Blue Force Gear, HSGI, PIG, Magpul, Hodge Defense, Aimpoint, Tactical Tailor, and hundreds more. Many brands they represent are also (or were) start-ups within the industry that needed a better platform for sales and marketing, so OPT approached them and helped them build their business over the years. OPT also has a number of original designs and collaborations with industry partners, including a proprietary MBAV armor carrier, an enhanced Berry compliant poncho liner made by Wild Things, and the OPT version of the Mayflower-Velocity LWPC.

About O P Tactical Inc.: OPT has one mission, provide the best gear and customer service. OPT is a 100% disabled Veteran owned small business. Here at HSGI®, we strive to provide all the gear you need when configuring your kit to patrol your beat, for missions outside the wire or just shooting at the range or everyday carry. With that in mind, we recently redesigned a product that was originally only a novelty and turned it into a practical addition to your bag, belt or pocket. The iTACO® Phone/Tech Pouch V2 comes in two sizes, which very by approximately .25” in width and height, and can even fit larger phone with heavy-duty cases. This pouch features two pockets on either side for your cash, ID, cards and other small essentials. Constructed with double-layered, proprietary 1000D Cordura® laminate, the iTACO® V2 is also moisture/mildew resistant. Unlike its predecessor, the V2 is available in both PALS- and belt-mountable versions.

Today we also released a family of hook-backed utility pouches that are perfect for quick and adjustable storage, whether you adhere it to the inside of our Range Day Pistol Case, our Range/Go Bag or any other platform with loop Velcro®. These Mesh Utility Pouches are constructed with 500D Cordura® and feature interior and exterior mesh pockets. These pouches are available in three sizes and will eventually be available for PALS configurations.

We also plan to launch a sliding, tactical sling in early August. This sling offers the maneuverability of a one-point sling while attaching like a three-point sling. The length of the sling was designed with full-length rifles and shotguns in mind, but can be adjusted up or down for a variety of firearms. You can see this sling in action in the video above.

HSGI® is always creating and innovating, so keep an eye on us for more great gear throughout the year.

3 Farben Flecktarn and SloCam are New Camouflage-Pattern Options for UF PRO’s Striker Gen.2 BDUs

    Thursday, June 15th, 2017

JUNE 15, 2017 – Cutting-edge maker of tactical clothing UF PRO today announced that it is now offering its popular Striker Gen.2 BDU combat shirts and pants in two additional high-performance, widely acclaimed camouflage patterns – 3 Farben Flecktarn and SloCam.

Tactical operators have long been impressed with the capacity of 3 Farben Flecktarn and SloCam to blur human body contours in temperate-zone woodlands as well as in urban areas brimming with cultivated foliage, but disappointed that neither camouflage pattern was an option for the Striker Gen.2 BDU line, UF PRO said.

According to UF PRO, both 3 Farben Flecktarn is exclusively available at the company’s online store and through UF PRO’s distributor in Germany, TACWRK. SloCam, however, is sold only at the UF PRO online store, the company said.

3 Farben Flecktarn In Use Around the World

“Flecktarn” comes from a mash-up of the German words for “spotted” (fleck) and camouflage (tarnung), UF PRO explained.

Flecktarn is the regulation camouflage pattern worn in all branches of the German military, UF PRO said.

The 3-Farben Flecktarn is the desert version of the 5-Farben Flecktarn used by the Bundeswehr in arid and semi arid regions. The camouflage pattern consists of three colours that replicate those found in arid regions, UF PRO elaborated, adding that the specific colours employed in 3 Farben Flecktarn are green, brown, and black.

SloCam Wearers Difficult to See in Woodlands

SloCam is a camouflage pattern likewise engineered for use in forests and in urban areas where shrubs abound, UF PRO said.

SloCam was designed originally for use by the Slovenian army in response to its changing strategic role as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, according to UF PRO. The idea was to provide for Slovenia’s troops a camouflage pattern that would permit greater uniformity and cohesion with forces from other NATO nations during joint operations, the company clarified.

More so, the Slovenian army needed camouflage pattern colours that would make detection of the wearer at a distance particularly difficult in heavily vegetated environments. SloCam succeeds in that objective with its light and dark olive greens and five shades of brown-green, the company said.

SloCam has earned accolades from tactical operators outside of Slovenia. For example, a German police special-forces unit selected SloCam as the top-choice pattern for sniper suits, UF Pro recounted.

UF PRO offers the Striker HT Combat Pants and the Striker XT Gen.2 Combat Shirt in 3-Farben Flecktarn. SloCam is available in the Striker XT Gen.2 Combat Pants and Combat Shirt.

For more information about SloCam, 3 Farben Flecktarn, Striker XT Gen.2 BDUs, and other quality UF PRO products, visit the company’s website ufpro.si.
