Thursday, April 23rd, 2020

Lynnwood, WA – As Studies and Observations Group (SOG) undergoes an in-depth brand transformation in 2020 it introduces new knives and multi-tools, each relentlessly designed to meet or exceed the specific demands of end-users.

Leading off the new introductions are total redesigns of three favorite SOG assisted-opening folding knives:

The newest versions of these best-selling knives deliver real-world solutions for three clearly defined segments of SOG users: Flash AT for daily carry, Aegis AT for outdoor users and Trident AT for professionals.

Flash AT

“Previous versions of these three knives have been among the most popular in the SOG lineup for about a decade,” said Jonathan Wegner, Vice President of Brand, who leads the new design direction and oversees product strategy at SOG. “Because they clearly represent each of our three user groups, they were the most obvious to kick off our entirely new product and brand approach.”

Aegis AT

SOG’s brand transformation emanates throughout the 2020 collection of knives and tools. Each of SOG’s new offerings are the culmination of insights and feedback provided by SOG’s cadre of subject matter experts, made up of professional, outdoor and everyday carry specialists. SOG applies a process of study, observe, understand, apply and repeat, that begins with a deep dive with users, before committing to any design solution. Coupling insights with a proven track record of design and engineering innovation, these new knives are poised to set a new standard as SOG moves forward with increasing the depth and breadth of its product line.

Trident AT

Each featuring SOG’s new and distinct visual brand language, Flash AT, Aegis AT and Trident AT utilize SOG’s incredibly strong XR locking mechanism that has consistently proven to deliver more than 1,000 pounds of lock-up strength in the new, lightning fast AT-XR Lock assisted-open mechanism, designed specifically for this new lineup. The new knives also come in a number of blade styles and various color choices in durable and ergonomic GRN handles.

MSRP for the three folders: Flash AT ($83.95), Aegis AT ($94.95) and Trident AT ($105.95). The three new models are available from Blade HQ, Knife Center and Smoky Mountain Knife Works, as well as SOG’s website.

“These three knives set the table for our 2020 line that puts us on a course to push new boundaries,” said Wegner “This is just the beginning of our pursuit to design solutions that will equip people for greater purpose.”

Mustang Survival Scales Up to Produce 150 Thousand Reusable Medical Gowns for Canadian Health Professionals

Thursday, April 23rd, 2020

Burnaby, BC – Mustang Survival®, the Canadian brand known for innovative solutions for the most demanding marine environments, has been saving the lives of water professionals for over 50 years. Now they are turning their attention to saving lives on land as they proudly announce their intention to produce more than 150 thousand Level 3 Medical isolation gowns for The National Public Health Authority of Canada.

The federal contract was awarded to Mustang Survival after they pivoted from manufacturing life vests, survival suits and dry suits for Military, public safety professionals and marine recreational users, to solving the issues in supply chain and production of PPE facing the Canadian healthcare sector.

Initially collaborating alongside innovative and cutting-edge British Columbia manufacturers and apparel companies—Boardroom Clothing, KenDor Textiles and Arc’teryx—they developed and tested the original prototype for the Level 3 waterproof gown at the beginning of April.
And, were subsequently contracted to manufacture 90,000 gowns for the Vancouver Health Authority (to be produced between all three companies). Mustang Survival then continued to work with the Canadian Federal Government to fulfill the overwhelming demand for PPE across Canada and was officially awarded the new larger contract this week.

“We are incredibly proud to live our purpose in a new field, delivering confidence to frontline health care workers”, says President Jason Leggatt. “Our team has been working around the clock to design, test and create this reusable, waterproof medical gown to meet the stringent health authority requirements. Now the job pivots to scaling up our production and working with local subcontractors to fulfill this new order”.

While priority of current production will still be focused on the local BC health care sector, Mustang Survival will be investing in machinery and staff as well as increasing shifts at their Burnaby Factory to help fulfil the larger federal contract. They are also overseeing the subcontracting of work with other small local manufacturing facilities who have existing sewing capabilities, supporting the continued employment of many local skilled workers during these unusual times.

Likewise, Mustang Survival is working with its sister company The Patten Company in Florida to produce 1,500 gowns for the West Virginia National Guard.

As part of The Wing Group, the companies are looking to secure a contract with FEMA which will enable them to create a rapid growth pipeline to manufacture this same high-quality reusable healthcare PPE in the US and around the world. Mustang Survival is confident the collective capacity to produce these gowns can make a significant contribution to those putting their lives at risk every day to fight the virus.

Timeline of Gown Development:
Early March VCH reached out to BC Apparel & Gear Association looking to get ahead of supply chain issues in PPE for Vancouver Health Care workers

Mid-March
Mustang Survival began collaboration on new gown design with BC companies, The Boardroom, KenDor textiles and Arc’teryx.

Diving into prototyping to rapid testing, Mustang Survival flipped their innovation lab—the Waterlife Studio—in Burnaby, BC into a rapid-response facility dedicated to finding a solution for this public safety crisis. Backed with the support of local health care officials to reach safety-certified status.

April 1
Initial order for VCH – first 500 delivered in first week
Contract for 90,000 Gowns for VCH was confirmed in this week.

April 19
Contract Awarded to Mustang Survival for 150,000 Level 3 isolation gowns

May
Mustang Survival scales up its own production at Burnaby Facility, adding sewers, seam sealers, machinery, and extra shifts.
They will also oversee the production of the gowns between smaller companies in the lower mainland – cutting & bundling gown packages to be sewn at various locations.
All Quality Control, testing and standards being overseen by the Mustang Survival team.

With large scale production needing to get underway as soon as possible there is a need for local sewers to come forward to help.

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2020

The Rock Exotica Arizona Vortex is an artificial high directional system and anchor point. It offers unlimited versatility and configuration options for rescues, lowers and hauling of equipment across all types of terrain, buildings and structures.

The Vortex can be rigged as a tripod, bi-pod and gin pole. This is possible because the Vortex’s two-piece head set allows for it to be rigged as a standard tripod or in advanced applications as an easel A-frame, A-frame, sideways A-frame and also as a gin pole.

It has fully adjustable, telescoping legs that allow it to be rigged in the most challenging mountain or urban terrain.

Importantly for equipment designed to be used in remote locations in poor conditions, it is intuitive and fast to set up. Transport options are maximised by the Vortex system breaking down into 4 separate bags.

Winches are easy to attach if they are needed to ease and expedite raises and lowers.

The Arizona Vortex with other Rock Exotica products such as the Omni Block pulleys, Aztek hauling system and Kootenay tyrolean pulley, meet virtually any requirement for a portable AHD system. All of these are available in subdued colours.

Helix Operations in conjunction with R3 SAR Gear (UK Rock Exotica Distributor) have specially requested a production run in black, making it better suited to tactical climbing and rescue operations.

Team Wendy Joins The Fight To Protect Frontline Responders

Tuesday, April 21st, 2020

The word “unprecedented” has been used to describe the COVID-19 pandemic; this is certainly true. Never has the world changed so quickly as in the last three months. And yet, in the midst of tragedy and uncertainty, we see countless stories of kindness and humanity, from neighbor helping neighbor to companies stepping up to help those in need.

Team Wendy is adding its efforts to the fight. The company – a critical supplier to our nation’s military, law enforcement and first responders – purchased 1,100 yards of plain weave white cotton, 800 yards of twill weave green cotton and 93 rolls of a shoelace material – enough fabric to make 10,000 cloth masks. The masks will be donated to Cleveland-area hospitals on a weekly basis.

Team Wendy is headquartered is in Cleveland, OH. Cuyahoga County leads the state of Ohio in coronavirus cases.

“We love our city, our state and this nation,” said Team Wendy CEO Jose Rizo-Patron. “We are ready to bring our experience protecting essential personnel to the fight against COVID-19. But, the health and well-being of each team member is our top priority.”

Team Wendy is operating with only essential employees onsite. Included are several dozen professional sewers. The company says a normal day for them might be to stitch chin straps that holds a helmet on the operator’s head. But these days are far from normal for our country. So, early last week, members of this team transitioned from their typical tasks to sewing cloth masks.

Team Wendy adheres to the directive of national, state and local leaders while continuing to serve the needs of the men and women who are on the front lines.

“I am so proud of this team,” Rizo-Patron said. “We humbly thank all essential workers across the country and around the world for their efforts.”

UF PRO Announces Its Latest Video Series on Tactical Tracking

Tuesday, April 21st, 2020

TRZIN, SLOVENIA (20 April 2020)—UF PRO, a maker of advanced tactical clothing for military and law-enforcement units in Europe and beyond, today announced it will debut on 27 April the first installment of a free, five-part video series teaching the latest tactical tracking techniques for apprehending crime suspects on the run.

The video series—titled “Pro’s Guide to Tactical Tracking”—follows former Dutch Royal Marine Boris Vos and his team of tactical trackers as they hunt down potential suspects., UF PRO said.

From episode to episode, Vos informs viewers about the newest ways of identifying and correctly analyzing the footprints, broken branches, campfire ashes, discarded items, and other telltale clues left by fleeing individuals, UF PRO said.

According to the company, tactical tracking using the latest techniques makes it possible to predict where vanished suspects will remerge and what escape routes they’ll likely use if they sense they’re about to be collared-and-cuffed.

“Tactical tracking is a high-level skill set that allows military personnel or law enforcers to gather visual indications of a suspect’s recent presence in or movement through an area and then correctly interpret what those indicators reveal,” UF PRO said.

UF PRO said each installment of “Pro’s Guide to Tactical Tracking” will be made available one week apart. The announced approximate release dates following the 27 April premiere are:

• Part Two—4 May

• Part Three—11 May

• Part Four—18 May

• Part Five—25 May

In Part One, Vos and his team of tactical trackers are summoned to hunt a gang of suspects who’ve vanished. At the scene of the incident, Vos demonstrates how to record and evaluate the evidence carelessly left behind by the suspects as they took flight.

In Part Two, the team follows the suspects trail into a forest. Vos describes a dilemma the lead tracker typically faces in such an environment and explains how to use a five-step track-pursuit exercise to get out of that bind.

The trail leads to a cave system in Part Three. There, Vos and his team discover an extinguished campfire and make important deductions based on partially burned evidence retrieved from the ashes.

Next, the team in Part Four tracks the suspects through an open field. The tactic that works best here is a Y-formation search pattern. Vos explains the principles behind it and shows why it’s the ideal choice in this situation.

In the concluding episode, Part 5, Vos shares tricks that can be used when suspects seek to disappear inside an urban area, as does the gang he and his team have been chasing. The most important of these presented techniques is known as the “track trap”—useful for knowing through which intersections suspects pass as they flee along paved roads.

Vos is a former Royal Netherlands Marine qualified to teach sniping and jungle warfare in addition to combat tracking. His skills as a combat tracking instructor were acquired from the United Kingdom’s Training Team Brunei, based in Southeast Asia. In addition to his own Royal Netherlands Marines, Vos also developed combat tracking courses on behalf of special operations forces, regular military, and law enforcement units from nations all around the world. Vos during his military career completed six operational deployments and currently serves as the senior trainer in a leadership development program for African rangers assigned to catch game poachers.

In conjunction with the “Pro’s Guide to Tactical Tracking”—available for viewing at no cost—UF PRO said it will give away a limited-edition tactical tracking patch to watchers who also order €100 or more of tactical gear from the company’s online store.

More information about the “Pro’s Guide to Tactical Tracking” is available on UF PRO’s website.
