Warrior West – FPG Survivor System

Thursday, May 3rd, 2012

The FPG Survivor System is a patent pending heat reflective backpack shelter. The system is all about living out of your ruck. It goes back to basic field craft, giving the user a lot of options for employment. The FPG Survivor System is designed to be used with the Marauder Pack System but can be employed alone in a variety of ways.

Warrior West – Litefighter

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Litefighter is a Service Disabled, Veteran owned family business that specializes in individual shelter systems. Their new FULL-SPECTRUM 1 shelter replaces the issue mosquito bar and a full shelter half system.

The footprint is perfect for setting up on a GI cot and incorporates a single pole system with 6 arms that make setup a snap.

20120502-085331.jpg

The 3+ season shelter is extremely compact and weighs only 4 lbs, 8 oz.

20120502-085706.jpg

Litefighter offers flies in several color schemes which incorporate a full 14 sq ft of vestibule compared to the 7 sq ft normally found in commercial backpacking shelters. This means plenty of room for your mission essential equipment.

This product was designed “by Soldiers for Soldiers” and includes many features not normally seen elsewhere. For example, the mesh is Permethrin treated and the tent bottom is reinforced anywhere it touches a cot’s metal frame. Additionally, the FULL-SPECTRUM 1 comes with a repair kit including a sleeve for broken poles.

Creative Tent International – Deployable Shelters

Saturday, April 14th, 2012

Soldier Systems had a chance to talk to Caleb Johnson of Creative Tent International at Darley Defense Day last Thursday. We weren’t able to put hands on much of their product line, but we did get to look through their catalog and talk about their shelters a little bit. The Creative Tent International shelters, such as the “Shasta Shelter® product lines” are designed to be lightweight, rapidly deployable and easy to put in place (they can be used for full-time use as well as contingency operations, of course, but the expeditionary side of things is what initially caught our eye). Their shelters range in size from small personnel billeting to a monster you can park an Osprey in with some room to spare. The latter is the FTS 200; it can be accessorized with HVAC, lighting, flooring, insulating liners and other necessities.

Features of their big boy include:

  • Berry Amendment Compliant
  • Hangars for CH53, P-3, Military Aircraft
  • Quick installation for deployable requirements
  • 90 – 115 mph wind load – certified engineering IBC (International Building Code)
  • Snow loading to 20 psf ground snow load
  • Re-locatable and modular
  • Installs from ground level with high reach forklift
  • Install on concrete, asphalt, ground or grass
  • End options: Gable Ends, Full Width Doors, Open Ends

For more information, contact Caleb Johnson at calebj(at)creativetent.us or Duffy Cavanaugh of Darley Defense at Duffy(at)Darley.com.

Tentsile – A Unique Shelter from the UK

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

We love hammocks but let’s face it, they are kind of cramped. But not anymore, at least now that Tentsile is on the scene. The advantages are obvious; stay up, off of the ground and avoid pests, water, dangerous animals and other threats.

They offer shelters to accommodate groups ranging in size from 2 – 8 persons. Tentsile will work with you to build to your requirements but generally, the larger versions of these super hammocks follow a three-pointed design with individual sleeping areas radiating out from a communal porch.

Tentsile shelters aren’t for every environment but if the conditions are right, they sure do look like a lot of fun.
