Schiebel Awarded Prestigious Search and Rescue Contract by Sasemar in Spain

Vienna, 6 October 2022 – Schiebel was awarded with the iSAR Research and Development programme, which builds on the current CAMCOPTER® S-100 Unmanned Air System (UAS) with the aim of further developing its maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) capabilities, offering a higher level of automation.

The scope of this multi-million Euro contract includes the further development and delivery of the high performance CAMCOPTER® S-100 UAS, including the integration of the latest high-tech sensors, allowing the detection and identification, both day and night, of castaways, drifting objects and polluting substances in the high seas; as well as monitoring toxic and hazardous atmospheres, emissions from ships and sea surface pollution. Furthermore, this project includes a data collection and distribution system combining information from the S-100 sensors, the manned AW139 and CN235 helicopters, as well as sensor data from two ships.

The S-100 payloads will include an Overwatch Imaging PT-8DN Oceanwatch, a Trakka TC-300 EO/IR sensor, an Aeromon BH-12 Emission Measuring Device, and a set of SENSIA Gas Imaging Devices.

The innovative payload suite allows the S-100 to perform all requested missions simultaneously, without the need of having to change the sensors. For the integration and fulfilment of the contract Schiebel partnered with a number of technology leaders, including the Spanish technology business group GMV Innovating Solutions, which is responsible for the network infrastructure.

The Maritime Safety and Rescue Society (SASEMAR) is part of the Spanish Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA).

SNC Acquires Volansi Portfolio to Deliver UAV Solutions that Fly Anywhere, Anytime

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 10, 2022) – Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) today announced it has acquired the portfolio of assets and intellectual property related to the Voly-50 and Voly-T series of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) produced previously by Volansi. The move reaffirms SNC’s commitment to delivering a next-generation, multi-role, long-haul, vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) platform to customers across the DOD and establishing SNC as a leading solution provider in the UAV space.

“SNC is committed to delivering a future unmanned system with the payload, range and endurance that our military needs,” said Tim Owings executive vice president of SNC’s Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area. “Adding the Volansi capabilities to the existing SNC portfolio was a perfect fit. Our complementary technologies will create a world where mission-tailored VTOL drones make it possible to support any industry, to deliver anything, anywhere, anytime.”

With the close of the deal, SNC also acquired Volansi’s production facility in Bend, Oregon and retained key personnel.

The Voly-50 and Voly-T series of infrastructure-independent aerial drones can take off and land vertically, leveraging the sky for unlimited possibilities and endless connections. Combining the Voly technology with SNC’s exceptional open architecture systems, sensor integrations, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities results in a rapidly deployable unmanned ISR VTOL solution for multi-domain operations.

Utilizing the Voly-50 series design as the foundation, SNC’s VTOL offering has a small operational footprint and can easily operate in difficult terrain and contested spaces for tactical resupply missions. It is built for endurance, with the ability to handle heavy payloads, while a turnkey ISR system gives users the ability to see, track and understand the battlespace more completely.

SNC also leverages the extensive expertise of its subsidiary, Kutta Technologies Inc., in its VTOL offering. Kutta – a respected leader in safety-critical unmanned systems software – contributes to the redundancy and durability required to complete even the toughest DOD missions by ensuring DO-178 compliance and adherence to interoperability standards.

DroneShield Announces Launch of Regional NSW Testing Facility

DroneShield is pleased to advise that it has launched a dedicated testing facility in regional New South Wales. The facility will significantly streamline the testing and release of advanced drone detection technologies in development by the Company.

This is DroneShield’s first dedicated testing facility in both New South Wales and Australia.

DroneShield Announces $1.8 Million U.S. Department of Defense Contract

DroneShield is pleased to advise that it has received an $1.8 million contract for its DroneGun MKIII handheld counterdrone system from the United States Department of Defense (DoD).
 
Delivery will be completed this month, with full payment due to be received in the current quarter.

This follows a previous down selection of DroneGun MKIII for evaluation by the DoD’s Joint Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office (JCO).

“It’s an honor to provide our DoD customers with advanced cUAS solutions to help address complex security requirements,” said Tom Branstetter, DroneShield’s Virginia-based Director of Business Development. “DroneShield is committed to delivering critical Force Protection technology that enables security personnel to rapidly respond to this growing threat,” Branstetter added.

This contract is the largest US sale by DroneShield to date, and follows several recently announced contracts by DroneShield, including the $2 million European sale of DroneSentry fixed site systems and the initial US airport deployment. The Company is also progressing active discussions on sales to Ukraine, following the initial deployment at the start of the war earlier this year.

United States Army Awards AeroVironment $20.6 Million Switchblade 300 Tactical Missile Systems Contract

ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 22, 2022 –AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV), a global leader in intelligent, multi-domain robotic systems, today announced it received a $20,602,464 firm-fixed-price contract award on Aug. 18, 2022 from the U.S. Army Tactical Aviation and Ground Munitions (TAGM) project office for the procurement of Switchblade® 300 tactical missile systems (TMS). The contract will be managed by the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Redstone Arsenal and is scheduled to be delivered by July 2023.

“Deployed by the U.S. Army for more than a decade, Switchblade 300 remains a critical force protection and soldier lethality solution for our customers, including Ukraine,” said Brett Hush, AeroVironment vice president and product line general manager for TMS. “It closes the gap between observation and action, giving soldiers the ability to identify threats and engage hostile beyond-line-of-sight targets from a greater distance with minimal collateral damage.”

The system will provide operators with continually advanced navigation capabilities, features and functionality through anticipated software and hardware updates. The system will also enable the integration of future autonomy capabilities.
