Loose ammo can be loaded one round at a time with a simple click, or you can engage the loading arm to expedite the process. The loading arm can handle up to 10 rounds of loose ammo, or ammo in a stripper clip, and the rounds are locked into the mag with a quick push.

Just as soon as I say I’ve seen everything, someone shows me up and does something new. This is the case with Zäck Stock’s Detachable Stock Handgun.

I can think of a couple of reasons why neither one of these are great ideas, but I’m sure SSD’s readers will come up with plenty more.

It seems like there isn’t a show that goes by recently where I don’t see the Crux Ordnance Tripod System. This thing is impressive. It’s built atop 10 layer, adjustable carbon fiber legs which meet at a spring loaded, aluminum apex, incorporating a bubble level. The apex will accept the Crux Ordnance gimbal mount or the weapon can be mounted direct via their unique, two-piece clamp attached with a 3/8″ x 16 mount thread.
At the other end of the legs are molded feet with stainless steel spikes to ensure a stable platform. All-in-all, it weighs 5 lbs, but will support up to 150 lbs (68kg).
While there are lots of great tripods out there, the gimbal head on the Crux Ordnance model really sticks out because there’s nothing else like it. The ambidextrous side mount gimbal is offered in two sizes and offers smooth tilt and pan as well as one-handed tightening. You can also mount the weapon from top or bottom and still have up and down adjustment. I can’t see a position you can’t get into with this.

The MAWL-DA from BE Meyers & Co, Inc is garnering a lot of interest in Canada. The Modular Advanced Weapon Laser was launched just a year ago and the line has already been expanded to include a commercial model with other specialized variants under development.
Kinetic Development Group demonstrated their Picatinny rail compatible, Sidelok optic mounts which swap out at the click of a button. THey are available for a wide variety of optics including 30mm, 34mm and 1″ tubes.
Scalar Works debuted their new On Point Sights for the AR, developed in conjunction with Larry Vickers. I’m super impressed with these fixed iron sights. Not only do these Picatinny compatible sights look great and are easy to adjust with just your finger, they are also well thought out.
When industry transitioned from a 20″ sight radius found in the M16, many back up sights, and fixed sights for that matter didn’t compensate for the shorter sight radius of the carbine. Consequently, the adjustment screws don’t actually offer what we would consider standard MOA adjustments. You may have noticed this phenomenon when adjusting your iron sights. The shift isn’t as predictable as we would hope during adjustments.
Scalarorks sat down and did the math to reintroduce predictability in iron sight adjustment. While their adjustments are based on a 15″ sight radius, each set of sights comes with a easy to understand guide to determine amount of adjustment per click based on your radius.
Additionally, LAV realized that when we had transitioned from the M16A1 to the A2, we flipped the rear peep sights around so that we no longer looked at the flat face but rather the scallop. This can cause distortion due to light reflecting within the scallop. Consequently, the On Point Sights have flat peep sight faces.
