Colt Custom Shop is Now Accepting 1911 Custom Work Orders

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (August 24, 2017) – The Colt Custom Shop, longtime purveyor of the world’s finest custom engraved and tuned firearms, is pleased to announce that it will again begin taking on new orders for 1911 custom work. In an effort to minimize the existing backlog of custom work and reduce future turnaround time, the Colt Custom Shop took a hiatus from accepting new orders late last year.

The Colt Custom Shop will begin accepting customization orders for uncustomized Colt brand 1911 style pistols, or Colt 1911 pistols that have been customized by the Colt Custom Shop only, starting immediately. Arc’teryx Issues Recall Of Their Procline Ski Boots

In cooperation with Health Canada and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arc’teryx has issued a recall of their Fall 2016, Procline Ski Boots. You can read the recall notice here.

In a small number of boots, the axis pin has dislodged which could cause the skier to lose control or fall and suffer injuries. All 2016 Procline Boots will be repaired to secure the axis pin and allow the boot to function as designed.

All of the Arc’teryx Fall 2017 Procline boot production now includes the redesigned axis pin. While there have been no injuries reported involving any Procline Ski Boots, our commitment to our users’ safety leads us to issue this recall to make the required axis pin repair.

Proctor Bolt Lever

Frank Proctor has refined the design of his Bolt Lever.

The Proctor Bolt Lever is designed to facilitate more efficient reloads for the AR-15. The larger and forward swept bolt release lever is positioned to press and release the bolt back into battery with the support hand thumb after seating a magazine. This allows the support hand to continue to flow forward to the rail or forearm of the rifle to re-establish a shooting grip.

The PBL is CNC machined from a solid piece of 4140 steel and then black nitride finished.

Canadian Forces Seeks Sniper Body Armour System

Public Works Canada has issued a tender for a Sniper Body Armour System. The details are below, but they only want 319 systems with an option for up to an additional 240 systems over the following 36 months. With numbers that low, it seems like a waste of resources to issue a tender. Just buy something off the shelf from a five eyes partner. However, they are looking for Canadian content here, so if two or more Canadian companies bid, they won’t consider outside bids.

They explain thier requirement:
The sniper community currently has access to the in-service Fragmentation Protective Vest (FPV) that is worn by all Canadian Forces (CF) members. The in-service FPV is an all-in-one system, meaning the soft armour and in-service Bullet Resistant Plate (BRP) pockets are part of one garment. While the in-service FPV provides excellent ballistic protection, it hinders the snipers ability to operate effectively due to its bulk and restricted range of motion. Therefore it was determined that snipers require a less restrictive garment that allows flexibility of protection and movement based on operational needs.

The Sniper Body Armour System (SBAS) to be delivered under this contract is composed of three components. The first component is the SBAS External Carrier (SBAS EC) that will hold the SBAS Ballistic Panel (SBAS BP). The second component is the SBAS Plate Carrier (SBAS PC) that will hold the in-service BRP. The third component is the Bilingual User Instructions Card that provides important information related to sizing and wearing/caring for the SBAS.

The SBAS will provide ballistic protection to members of the sniper community with improved flexibility of movement and protection options. The sniper will wear individual components or both to maximize ballistic and fragmentation protection.

Gerber Sponsors Bicontinental Motorcycle Expedition Led By Army Veterans

PORTLAND, OREGON (August 23rd, 2017) – GERBER, a leading direct supplier of mission-essential knives, tools and equipment to the US Military, is proud to be the primary sponsor of Where the Road Ends – supporting a team of US Army veterans as they embark on a dangerous expedition from the artic-circle to the southern-most tip of South America on custom-built motorcycles. The journey will last the better part of 3 months and take the team through the infamous Darien Gap, a 100 mile stretch of untamed jungle between Panama and Colombia.

Four Army vets. Four motorcycles. Fourteen countries. One impassible jungle.

The team will depart from Deadhorse, Alaska in mid-November where they will brave subzero temperatures and treacherous ice to reach the Darien Gap during January’s dry season, the only time when passage is possible.

The trip will be documented along the way through Gerber’s blog The Range, as well as through Gerber’s social feeds (Facebook & Instagram), and culminate in a full-length documentary produced post-expedition.

Gerber’s contributions to the expedition include cash to support planning, reconnaissance, operations, provisions and fuel as well as a variety of mission-essential gear including Machetes, Multitools, Knives and Equipment. Additionally, Gerber has donated its famed ‘Black Boar’ Ford Quad Conversion Van that previously traveled the country in 2012 on the ‘American Expedition’. The ‘Black Boar’ will act as a chase vehicle for portions of the trip supporting video production, carrying mechanical supplies and acting as an emergency aid station.
