Former SEAL Mark Owen recently posted this photo of a Princeton Tec Switch Rail weapon light mounted to a pistol. The original concept by Sentinel Design and Austere Provisions Company was to provide low level light on a rifle rail. Sort of a navigation light.
Owen is using it on his pistol, which certainly offers a low volume light and might be just what you are looking for, depending on your application.

Authored by Lieutenant General Sir Robert Baden-Powell (pronounced “Poe-well”), “Aids to Scouting, for N.-C.O.s & Men” was one of many pamphlets he wrote based in his experience as an officer in His Majesty’s Army abroad.
Intended as a training guide for use by other professional Soldiers, the book was adopted by boys across England who began to practice the skills contained therein. Eventually, BP as he was known, retired from his post as a General and founded the Scouting movement, adapting his earlier works for his new youth movement.
Fieldcraft is the foundation of a successful Soldier. A modified version of this skill set, called appropriately enough, “Scoutcraft” is also what Scouting is all about. While some tasks don’t translate directly from one to the other, there is enough overlap that this book inspired the Scouting movement over a century ago.

Threadsmiths is a company based out of Melborne, Australia which has developed a patented hydrophobic nanotechnology application that repels water and dirt. The first product to feature this hydrophobic application is the Cavalier t-shirt.
The Cavalier is a 100% cotton white t-shirt. Given the color, this makes the hydrophobic application a perfect addition. It comes in a slim fit, so ordering a size up is recommended. The Cavalier is fully machine washable, and its water repellency can be reactivated every few washes by tumble drying at normal to low heat. The Cavalier also comes in black.
Here you can see liquids such as water and juice also being repelled by the shirt. The coating is effective against virtually any water-based substances, including maple syrup, chocolate sauce, hot sauce, red wine, and more. It does not work well against oil-based liquids, however.
Seeing the aftermath of the colored liquids, you may feel the shirt has been stained. However, as demonstrated in the video below, application of additional water will quickly remove the ‘set-in’ stains. Typically, an amount equivalent to a large bottle of water is all that is needed.
Threadsmiths has developed an impressive hydrophobic application. We look forward to seeing what future products will also feature these same hydrophobic properties. Plus, having a white t-shirt that you don’t have to worry about staining is a nice bonus.

They recently put up a post regarding the use of sanitary pads, diapers, and tampons, and why they don’t make for the best dressings when used for hemorrhages.
