Researchers at MIT have developed a new algorithm that analyzes photos of a scene taken from multiple perspectives and produces a camouflage covering for an object placed within that environment.
Objects hidden by the best performing algorithm took more than 3 seconds to find, which is significantly longer than the casual glance the camouflage is intended to fool.
Although camouflage systems like this aren’t new, this latest effort from the MIT research team is seemingly the most advanced variant to date. Technology like this could easily be adapted to cover up sensor placements, machine gun placements, or other pre-established structures and equipment in the field. However, I don’t see an application for its use with clothing, individual equipment or vehicles as it’s too specific.

The Valhalla Project is a Veteran reintegration and homesteading education project founded by retired Special Forces LTC Gordon Cucullu and his wife Chris Fontana. Based in the Ozark Mountains of Arkansas, the long term goal of the Valhalla Project is to become a completely self sufficient, permaculture based farm. It serves as a place for combat veterans and civilian wartime contractors to learn life skills, decompress, and transition back to a peacetime lifestyle.
Currently, Valhalla requires a Utility Vehicle for use as a workhorse and to transport Veterans with limited mobility around the 200 acre property, which operates year-round and sits on rough terrain.

This is an official announcement from SilencerCo regarding the recent hiring of Johnny Primiano to a position in their Business Development department.
SilencerCo is proud to issue a formal welcome to the newest member of our team, Johnny “Primo” Primiano. Johnny is an Army Special Operations Veteran with two handfuls of deployments under his belt. A year and a half of his enlisted time was spent as Senior Selection Board Member during the writing of the current requirements for SOCOMs suppressor and muzzle device programs. This background makes Johnny ideal for his position in SilencerCo’s Business Development department, focusing on Government Programs in both the foreign and domestic realms. We are excited to have Johnny on board, and look forward to the impact he will have on SilencerCo’s culture of innovation, education, and dedication to customer service.
Congrats Primo!
Called SITA by its creator Physical Optics Corp, the Tactical Flex Display Unit is offered in a couple of different sizes. It’s currently greyscale and sunlight readable as well as compatible with NVGs. They’re working on a color version that will also be sunlight readable. Below, you can see a couple of mockups.
SITA runs on Android OS and offers a certain amount of inherent functionality along with the ability to serve as a I/O peripheral for other devices. Currently using a commercial mapping software, they are working on the integration of NGA digital mapping products (raster and vector), SITA can be used as an autonomous Blue Force Tracker. POC pairs SITA with a digital GPS Receiver and commercial satellite tracker/text messenger Track24 to offer BFT services as well as sat text messaging.
The 30MFE (Multi-Fuel Engine) is a 30 horse power model of the popular Evinrude outboard, used for years by maritime forces. This family of motors are the first outboard engines ever capable of running on multiple fuel types, including kerosene, JP-4, JP-5, JP-8, Jet A and Jet B as well as standard gasoline. Additionally, the 30 Horse Power model is going to be easier to man handle when afloat and configuring your boat after a successful RAMZ drop.

Six15 Technologies has developed a kit for use by JTACs consisting of their new Tactical Battlefield Computer and Odin see through display. The kit creates augmented reality by feeding data through the computer to the Odin to provide the user with actionable intelligence. I had a chance to try it on for a demonstration and it was cool to see the icons in the HUD that popped into view with additional info when I looked in their direction .
The Tactical Battlefield Computer is based around an Intel Core i5-425OU CPU and runs Windows 7 professional 64 bit. Comes with 8GB RAM, 480GB SSD, 6 external USB connectors, and a uSD card slot. An external display connector supports HDMI or USB. IP65 rated.
Odin is a see through display technology that enables augmented reality. It allows the user to view revelant computer generated information such as graphics, maps, and alerts overlayed over the real world. The Odin’s display is 800 x 600 pixels (full color, RBG) with a 45 degree diagonal field of view with a usable image available in less than 3 seconds. Capable of operating in temperatures between -31C to 49C, IP68 rated.
