OR Summer Market – Salewa

August 6th, 2014

All of these new models you will see here are coming Spring 15. I really like the direction Salewa is moving and their styles will fit right in with niche military/tactical users.

First up is the Alp Flow featuring WL Gore’s Surround Technology. It’s based on the best selling Alp Trainer and incorporated the Gore-Tex Surround into a full grain letter upper. They were the first brand to feature this technology and it’s already available in the Escape and Ramble. For the Alp Flow, they’re using radiator technology to leverage the Surround material to force the hot air out and allow cooler air in.

Next is the Redesigned Rapace GTX (left) and Mountain Trainer Mid GTX (right). The laces are all the way to the end of the toe box. Additionally, they’ve added the new 3-piece adjustable footbed. Finally, they’ve lined the entire heel cup and collar with Ortholite foam which molds to the wearer, offering a better fit. Notably, the Rapace is also crampon capable.

Finally, Salewa is introducing a pack range to North America. Known for so clean, technical designs in Europe, they’ve chosen 9 of their proven styles to bring here. We’re giving you a taste with this Crest 25. It’s a 25 liter, lightweight alpine pack. It offers a breathable close fitting back panel and a clean design. Don’t forget, there’s also an integrated rain fly.

The ZEV Technologies Experience – Slide Cuts

August 6th, 2014

It’s week three of The ZEV Technologies Experience and I’m told that they’ve cut the new slide, custom designed for SSD, but don’t quite want to let the whole cat out of the bag meaning we’re only going to see glimpses of what they’ve done. So far, ZEV has checked the pistol in and pulled the parts for the custom build.

ZEV-SS_Slide-1

In this video, you can see the slide being precision cut in house, from 1704 Billet Stainless Steel.

Undoubtedly, the most prominent feature is the cutout for the RMR. The slide cut is specific for the Trijicon RMR and offers 1/3 co-witness, featuring ZEV technologies proprietary RMR mounting posts.

ZEV-SS_Slide-3

I just received word yesterday that Trijicon has graciously sent an RMR in to Zev Texhnologies to be incorporated into the build. This is going to be an exciting gun to shoot.

The outside features sections of loop material for attaching hook backed pouches, such as those from Orange Diamond Concealment or Tactical Tailor’s Low-Vis line.

Remember the Men of Extortion 17

August 6th, 2014

I can’t believe it’s been three years since I heard the news about the crash of Extortion 17, a US Army CH-47 carrying 38 souls: 17 US Navy SEALs, 5 NSW Fleet Techs, 2 USAF Pararescumen, 1 USAF Combat Controller, 5 US Army National Guard and Army Reserve Aviators, 7 Afghan Commandos, and 1 Afghan interpreter. Also on board was a single NSW Working Dog.

20130805-203816.jpg

I live in Virginia’s Tidewater which was home port for many of those men. I’m not sure the town will ever really get over the tragedy. There are a lot of families, friends, and teammates who bear the loss every day. Only one day a year everyone else thinks about these men and their sacrifice. I think that’s selfish. I don’t expect you to think of them everyday unless they were yours, but don’t make their passing into something any more special than any other death. This obsession has trivialized their passing as much as it does every other death. Each and every loss has meaning and every loss is mourned. I challenge you to look past this one day a year and this group of men. By all means, remember the Men of Extortion 17 and then recognize the sacrifice of all of our fallen.
