Oakley Airwave – GPS Enabled Goggle

November 2nd, 2012

20121101-201940.jpg

The Oakley Airwave goggle was designed for the snowsports market. It integrates GPS, Bluetooth into a heads up display equipped goggle. Maps, temperature, jump analytics, speed, playlists and even the location of your friends are all accessible via an embedded screen that appears as if you are 5′ away from a 14″ monitor.

I’d expect to see these on Rob Curtis soon.

Dipped Stock Ideas from B5

November 1st, 2012

20121101-131755.jpg

Folks have been giving their weapon accessories camouflage hydrographic treatments for some time but recently we’ve seen some interesting graphics showing up.

For example, this enhanced SOPMOD stock from B5 Systems sports a Halloween themed graphic. We’ve also seen others with American flag motifs. Considering Gun Culture 2.0 and that not all small arms are being used as working as working guns, we expect to see a lot more of this in the future. I can tell you that Tactical Mama saw this and got to thinking about doing some upgrades to her new .300 carbine. Pink’s just not her thing.

Merchant of War Patch

November 1st, 2012

One Shot Tactical explains the Merchant of War patch.

When we got put on a protest list with Lockhead Martin, General Dynamics, Thales and other defense contractors, we were a little shocked, and exited.

They called the list “Merchants of War” and “War Profiteers”.

As word has spread, the catch phrase “Official Merchant of War” stuck.

What makes this even better is that they are a Canadian company. The folks at One Shot Tactical are our kind of people.

Still Think US4CES Camo Looks Just Like MARPAT?

November 1st, 2012

20121101-133549.jpg

I’ve heard from more than one commenter that the ADS Inc US4CES family of patterns ( US Army Camo Improvement Program Finalists) is just like MARPAT. Here, co-developer, Guy Cramer of HyperStealth Biotechnology Corp explains the differences.

Guy Cramer, President/CEO of Hyperstealth, developed US4CES pattern independent of MARPAT. He came up with new Macro and Micro patterns designed to increase effectiveness at much greater distances than MARPAT which will isoluminate (The pattern appears as one color rather than four removing the disruptive quality) at much closer distances than US4CES.

Another improvement comes with the “Boundary Luminance Gradient” between the two dominant color layers which create a better disruption element between the two similar hues. Colorblind people see similar color layers the same and the disruption effect is lost – the green hue of night vision has the same effect and the target shape is easier to detect, thus the boundary luminance gradient helps separate these colors even under colorblind conditions. It also adds a 3D effect and the brain interprets this as depth and texture further confusing the vision processing system.

The Macro pattern was also designed to break up the human shape more effectively than had been accomplished with previous patterns.

HyperStealth claims this photo is taken under Night Vision but the color looks a bit off to me. Either way, you can see the differences in the patterns when they are side by side.
