Amron Unveils New Dive Navigation Board
February 10th, 2012Amron International introduced their new DNB100 Diver Navigation Board. You may have heard of Amron as a prime vendor or tactical outfitter but their core has always been diving. In fact, they started out manufacturing dive gear and the DNB100 is an inhouse design.
The anti-shock stealth black navigation board features a new, wider console that gives divers additional space between the chronometer and the depth gauge. This design element ensures the diver has full access to the timer’s functionality.
“When the time came to design our own navigation board, we took a hard look at the existing models and how they could be improved,†said Joe Esparza, Product Manager, Amron International. “We noticed the watch and the depth gauge were right up against each other, and this could be a problem for divers wearing gloves in cold water. The wider console means combat swimmers won’t have to take extra steps to get the timer started or stopped.â€
In addition, improvements were made to the chemical light holder and Amron engineers used an injection-molded design with brass screw connections to create cleaner, more polished styling on the side boards.
The DNB100 utilizes a depth gauge that measures from 0-50 feet and a precision compass with luminescent numbers, headings and markers that glow in the dark. The board is compatible with either an Amron Compass or the Ritchie RU-90 Voyager Compass. The DNB100 Diver Navigation Board also comes with a convenient black carrying case.
SOD Spectre Cap
February 10th, 2012
I’d seen the Spectre Cap from Italy’s SOD Gear online but after picking one up at SHOT Show I can tell you that photos just don’t do it justice. It’s a true fatigue cap. Comfortable, floppy, and designed specifically for field wear. In fact it has a lot in common with their Boonie Hat which is the Rolls Royce of Boonies. For example, when you take a look at the brim you can see that it is a modified section of a full Boonie brim. It also incorporates the terry sweatband and vent system from the SOD Boonie.
Naturally, it features plenty of Velcro to accept ID and other accoutrements. Additionally, the cap comes in two sizes with micro adjustments available via a strap at the rear. It also has a loop so you can hang it or attach it to your gear. Finally, it is available in a plethora of colors including HCS (the photo below), Black, Tan, Blue, MultiCam, Vegetato, Desertico CB62 as well as PenCott Badlands, Greenzone and Sandstorm.
I have one in Street Brown which a very dark brown that fades into a chocolate brown. It’s a very comfortable cap that makes me think of a Boonie Hat who was unhappy with its body image so it got some plastic surgery to make it more like a Patrol Cap. Then it added an adjuster so it would be like an American ballcap. Seriously, it’s a cool hat and oh so comfy. Did I say it was comfy?

Haley Strategic Launches Disruptive Environments Program
February 9th, 2012It sounds pretty cool. You’re looking at application of fundamental skills in realistic situations. There’s no repetition here. There won’t be an instructor standing beside you telling you to tuck your elbow in or keep your eyes open. Think of it as an experience that will train the one thing rarely exercised on the range; your mind. This makes it a program for students who have a firm grasp of fundamentals and are ready for the next level of development.
Additionally, Haley Strategic Partners is offering civilian classes in addition to Military/LE only classes. Courses will be unique to the environments they are conducted in. The class may incorporate vehicle operations, CQB, problem solving and navigation in both daylight and darkness, tracking, survival, human interaction and more.
