Thanks to ADS Inc for making us aware of the upcoming East Coast Washington, D.C. Metro EODWF Undefeated Bike Ride on Sept. 27-29, 2013. Riders will have the option to choose between a challenging 2-day 155 mile ride from Annapolis, MD to Boulder Crest Retreat in Bluemont, VA, or a single day, 50 mile out and back event on Saturday the 28th.

Now in its 5th year, the Undefeated EOD 2-Day Ride benefits the EOD Warrior Foundation, which funds and supports military EOD families caring for their injured loved ones at military medical facilities across the country, and with financial stresses they encounter on the path of healing after the hospital.

We collaborated with ADS to create an infographic on tactical lighting for Volume 10 of their tactical catalog. Order yours to see the entire graphic.

Tactical-Lighting-Diagram

The goal was to classify tactical lighting into basic applications and to introduce readers to common terminology and attributes to use as selection factors.

Applications:

Tactical lighting is available in several different packages including handheld, head or helmet mounted, and weapon mounted. There are also modular light packages engineered for crossover use on helmets or MOLLE vests as well as weapon mounted configurations. Light performance will differ based on these various package options.

Attributes:

From lamp and bulb type, to battery efficiency, lenses, and reflectivity, engineers are continuously improving the various components and attributes of tactical lighting. When selecting a light, it is best to define your requirements up front. First, consider application and the associated type of lights available, then focus on the attributes that differentiate the models in that segment.

DRIFIRE’s NAVAIR Approved Flightsuits Available Through ADS inc

Tuesday, August 20th, 2013

DRIFIRE offers a two-piece flightsuit and combat shirt that are approved for use by NAVAIR. Designed to work together, these FR, performance garments are well suited to ground as well as air operations. I think LE organizations who face flame threats should check these out.

Like I said, these are performance FR garments. In addition to their FR properties, they are also anti-microbial and moisture wicking. As far as flight clothing go, the DRIFIRE garments fuse combat and flying features making them great options for Multi-seat aircraft such as cargo and rotary wing. Both garments are offered in Khaki as well as Sage.

DRIFIRE FR garments are available for unit and agency orders through www.adsinc.com/drifire.

It’s That Time Again – EOY

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

Let’s face it. Funding this year has been rough and now, here we are in 4th Quarter, and you’re trying to obligate funds. To make matters worse, you may have money but no clear direction on whether or not to actually spend it. That means you are going to have to have your ducks in a row when word comes to execute. Quite frankly, the TLS program is a good way to purchase the equipment that you need, even if it looks like a laundry list. But that’s not the only way to obligate funds. There are a wide variety of means to get what you need: GSA, NSNs, DoD EMALL, 8(a), SDVOSB, WOSB, the SOCOM Natick IDIQ as well as several other IDIQ vehicles. You guys are lucky. While it’s still an option, you aren’t relegated to heading down to SSSC and loading up on wax, toilet paper and ink pens. There are a lot of other options. Recently, I spent some time talking to ADS and I’d say that they know them all.

ADS EOY

These days, ADS isn’t just about Special Operations Equipment. During the recent Warrior Expo I saw MRO equipment, Medical gear, expeditionary tentage and even C4ISR systems. Contact your POC at ADS for more info.

Protonex Squad Power Manager

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

When I was in the service, I used to dream about something like the Protonex Squad Power Manager (SPM). I hated seeing all of those half expended batteries in a stack against the wall doing nothing. This thing does exactly what the name says and with 6 universal outlets, you can manage power to multiple devices and well as recharge and harvest power to and from your batteries.

Capabilities include:
Manages and prioritizes battery usage
Powers man-packable gear
Recharges military and commercial batteries
Optimizes solar/alternative power sources
Monitors power sources and loads, alerting warfighter to problems
Dynamically adjusts to changing mission needs
Smart Cable ID configures ports automatically
Provides graphical display to show power trends and permits advanced configuration

These diagrams give an idea of how the SPM can be configured to power multiple devices or to recharge batteries.

Here is a short video from Warrior West on the SPM featuring Jeff Williams from Protonex.

The Protonex Squad Power Manager is available through ADS Inc for unit and agency orders.
