Benchmade Knives gave us a rare glimpse of a concept for a fixed blade bolo jungle knife, the 153, to be launched at SHOT Show. This is only a prototype with the production model is still a ways out and expect some design changes beyond what you see here.

Benchmade just launched the new 5400 Serum which features the AXIS Dual Action Mechanism. It offers redundant opening mechanism. The primary is an auto opener with a standard thumbstud opening and AXIS blade lock.
You pull down the AXIS button for manual opening and pull a little further to the rear for automatic opening. This means that even if your spring breaks for some reason, you can still reliably open and close your knife.
This 3.47″ blade is made of Elmax premium steel (58-60 HRC). The 550 Serum also features G10 scales with full stainless steel liners and a reversible pocket clip.
New for 2014, the Benchmade Fixed Contego by Warren Osborne features a reverse Tanto blade.
With an overall length of 10.18″, the Fixed Contego combines a 4.97″ blade made from CPM-S30V with contoured G10 scales. The knife also includes a multi-position, molded sheath with adjustable detent.
The new Benchmade 940-1 Osborne aXIS will be available in April. It is the first knife in the 940 series to feature S90V steel. It also incorporates machined carbon fiber handles, blue anodized barrel spacers making for a lighter version of the standard 940. You may notice the name includes AXIS and this is because it uses the AXIS lock, an ambidextrous, easy-to-use locking mechanism for the blade. The blade is 3.4″ with an overall length of 7.87″ and 2.4 oz.
Benchmade’s Limited Edition 586-141 knife features a 2.91″ DLC coated Crowned M390 (HRC 60-62) blade with a hand polished convex edge. The handles are 3D machined carbon fiber with red C-Tek epoxy infused aluminum honeycomb inlays. The reversible pocket clip is a DLC coated split arrow design, and the crimson barrel spacers are anodized aluminum. The locking mechanism is Benchmade’s patented Axis-Assist system. Quantities are limited to 200 pieces.
This is the coolest thing I didn’t get to see at AUSA. Unfortunately, the sample didn’t arrive at the show but I still get to share it with you thanks to the power of the internet.
The SOCP Knife (Special Operations Combative Program) is a dagger design from Chief Instructor Greg Thompson and manufactured by Benchmade. The design has been out there for awhile so you may have already seen it. However, Benchmade just introduced a new model with a ComboEdge blade. The dagger is designed to be both an offensive and defensive weapon so if you’re wrapped up or someone grabs your primary weapon in a confined space (think house or cave) you can draw the SOCP to engage at close quarters and fight away from the threat to give you enough room to revert to primary or secondary weapon. The blade and finger eye/loop at the top is configured so you can still maintain positive weapon control and good trigger manipulation while the SOCP Knife is in your hand. I’ve written about this before and since some folks have trouble visualizing it, Benchmade created this graphic.
The deal with this new ComboEdge is that the original model was great at stabbing but, lacking a full blade, didn’t do much in the slash department. Benchmade added this new serrated section to the blade and presto; you can hack and slash as well as stab.
In addition to a MOLLE compatible sheath, the SOCP Knife is also available with a red training knife.
Only a few days left to bid in the Marc Lee Glory Knife auction sponsored by our friends at US Elite. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to America’s Mighty Warriors foundation. They also have signed knives for sale by Debbie Lee, Marc’s Mom – a nice to have for any knife collector.
